Work Text:

“Claudine, Claudine.”

Claudine shrieked as she woke up to Maya ominously standing over her bed, poking at her cheek incessantly.

Maya pouted as Claudine scrambled on her bed, dragging her blanket up to cover her chest with one hand, grabbing for her phone on the nightstand with the other. “Maya, what the hell do you think you’re doing?” Claudine squinted at her phone’s screen. “It’s 3 in the morning!”

“Isurugi-san told me something interesting earlier today,” Maya completely ignored her question, instead smiling down at her like an idiot. While usually that would give Claudine butterflies in her stomach, it was way too late(or early, depending on how you look at it) to be doing something like this. “I just wanted to make sure it’s true.”

“What did Futaba say Maya,” Claudine sighed, sitting up on the bed and rubbing her eyes, wanting nothing more than to go back to sleep, knowing it’s impossible with Maya like this.

“She told me that you liked me,” Maya said, hands on her hips, an air of smug satisfaction to her expression. “Romantically liked me.”

Claudine stared up at her and sighed again. “What-what were you two even talking about?”

“I’m glad you asked,” Maya said, crouching down next to the bed, face close to Claudine's own. “I had the feeling that you liked me that way for a while now, so as your best friend and weakness, I targeted Isurugi-san and got her to spill your secrets, and I now know that you like me.” Maya said, crossing her arms as if proud of herself.

“Maya?”

“Yes?”

“What exactly do you plan to do with this information?” Claudine asked, still trying to orient herself with the stupidity of what's going on.

Maya looked flustered, cheeks turning an even darker shade than it already was. “W-well, I suppose I was going to ask you out if it turned out to be true. Maybe go to dinner? I’m not sure, I just want to spend more time with you.”

Claudine could already feel the headache forming between her ears.

“Maya,” Claudine said, massaging her forehead, trying desperately to make sense of what Maya was saying.

“Yes?”

“We’re married, you idiot,” Claudine grabbed her ring in its place on the nightstand and shoved it into Maya’s face, smelling the alcohol coming from her. “God, I can’t believe you woke me up for this.” She gripped Maya’s left wrist, waving it around. “You’re still wearing our wedding ring you dunce.”

Maya’s mouth opened in amazement, staring at her own ring in wonder. It would have been cute if it wasn’t 3 in the morning. Actually it was still cute, but it was also 3 am in the morning, so Claudine was also extremely annoyed.

“So that means you like me right?”

“Yes, Maya, that means I like you,”

“Yes!” Maya fistpumped in victory. “I knew I could trust Isurugi-san.”

“Just-just go to sleep already.” Claudine groaned, moving aside to give Maya some space on the bed.

“Okay, “ Maya got under the covers, turning to her in expectation. “Claudine?”

“Yes Maya?”

“So we’re married right?”

“Yes Maya, we’re married.”

“Can I make a request?”

“What is it?”

“Could you please tell me you love me?”

Claudine turned to Maya, who was staring at her unblinkingly. Looking into Maya’s eyes, Claudine had to sigh. She really couldn’t resist Maya at all.

“I love you Maya, now go to sleep you big idiot.”

“Can you please kiss me too?”

Claudine lips twitched into a smile of fond annoyance, “Such a spoiled idiot my wife is.”  She leaned over and laid a kiss on Maya’s temple, then on her lips. Maya grinned against Claudine, kissing her back.

“Now sleep, I’m serious this time.”

“Okay,” Maya closed her eyes and immediately passed out.

Claudine stared down at Maya for a few moments before getting up from the bed from her side, being careful not to wake Maya up, grabbing and putting on her nearby night coat.

She made her way to the kitchen, phone in hand, and called her top contact.

“Futaba,” She greeted her best friend, preparing some coffee for herself.

“Oi, Kuroko, Maya got there safely?”

“Yes, she got up here without incident, thank you for driving her home,” Claudine replied. “What the hell were guys doing anyway? How did Maya get that drunk? I thought you guys were just celebrating perfect rehearsals?”

“Kawasaki and the others wanted to hear her talk about you again,” Futaba admitted. “Maya is always a lot more animated whenever she talks about your guys’ personal life, always going on about how she’s proud of you and how sad she is whenever you have to go back to France. Kawasaki thinks it’s cute, says she wants a boyfriend like her.”

Claudine blushed and let out a cough. “How much did she drink? You know she’s a lightweight.”

“I didn’t count how many drinks Maya was on, I was drinking non-alcoholic the entire time, though Jin and his husband bought some of the strong stuff." Even without video, Claudine could hear the laugh in Futaba's voice "It was pretty funny when Maya started calling me “Isurugi-san” again,  and asking me if you were single though.”

Claudine paused. “Did you get it on camera?” She had to admit, that sounded funny and was the perfect material to embarrass Maya when they next met up with their friends

“It’s already in the Seisho group chat.”

“Reliable as always Futaba.” She need to download that video.

“Thanks Kuroko, I’m nearly home anyway too, Kaoruko’s staying here in Tokyo for a week.”

Claudine paused, cocking her head. “I thought Kaoruko only has to be here for the weekend? Why is she staying that long?”

“You know her,” Futaba reminded Claudine. “always looking for an excuse to stay over.”

“You spoil her too much,” Claudine rolled her eyes at Futaba even though the shorter girl couldn’t see her expression. “I worry for the future of her school if she keeps slacking off like this.”

“Tamao and Yacchan can take care of it while she’s here.” Futaba assured her. “She taught the two well enough that they can handle it whenever Kaoruko’s out for a while.”

“Fine fine, just wanted to check up on you. Thank you for bringing Maya home safely.”

“No problem Kuroko, anytime.”

“We can meet up for dinner maybe? Our treat, Maya and I have a reservation for Sanada’s this Thursday night.”

“Sure. I’ll have to ask Kaoruko, but she shouldn’t have anything to do on Thursday.”

“Thanks, drive safe Futaba.”

“Good night Kuroko.”

Claudine cut the connection, staring down at the clock on her phone. She sighed, might as well get ready for the day

Maya woke up and immediately regretted it as the biggest headache of her life greeted her. She moaned in pain, immediately closing her eyes again and curling up into a ball, wishing that Claudine was right next to her.

She would still be a miserable wreck, but at least she’d get to touch Claudine while the hammers continued to bang on her head. As it was, any sound at all, even the ruffling of the bed, felt like gunshots going off next to her ear, and her throat was drier than a desert, not to mention her body felt ridiculously sluggish, nothing like her usual grace on the dance floor.

5 minutes into her new state as a cocoon, she started considering the merits of standing up and getting something to drink for her parched throat against hiding back under the safety of the covers that still smells like Claudine when she had a brilliant idea.

“Claudine.” She tried to shout for her wife, but her throat being as dry as it was, she couldn’t be loud enough to be heard across the other side of the bedroom nevermind Claudine who was probably in their living room.  “Claudine.” She tried again, with no more success than the first.

Lips set into a determined line, and with every ounce of willpower she could muster, she wrapped the blanket even closer to herself and stood up, ready to trudge towards their kitchen to get food. Two steps in, and the door opened to let in Claudine, one hand carrying a tray of food. Maya’s mouth immediately started watering at the meal in Claudine’s hands. She has never been as attracted to Claudine as she was at this moment.

Okay maybe that was a lie, everyday Maya found a new joy in loving Claudine more and more, but the food really did look good

“Maya!” Claudine admonished, setting down the tray on their bedside table then escorting Maya down at bed again, placing pillows at her back so she was sitting up. Claudine laid the tray down on Maya’s lap, for a perfect breakfast of buttered toast, eggs, tomato soup, coffee, her filled up water jug, a glass of orange juice, and a salad.

“Marry me,” Maya groaned, digging into the food while Claudine grabbed the glass of orange juice on the tray.

“We’re already married, you idiot.”

“Marry me again, this is so good.”

“It’s just some soup and salad Maya,” Claudine pointed out, though Maya knew her well enough to know that she was as delighted as she always was whenever Maya was enjoying herself, one of the things Maya allowed herself to be arrogant about.

“I don’t care, it’s perfect,” Maya groaned, and reached for the glass in Claudine’s hand. The blonde slapped it away, and Maya drew back, pouting at the betrayal.

“This is a mimosa, if you want orange juice I can get you some later.” Claudine took a sip, winking at her.

“You’re drinking this early?”

“Hey,” Claudine said, bopping Maya on the nose, who flinched back and wrinkled it. “You had your fun with your New Theater friends last night while I had to listen to some boring old man’s speech over an internet video call for three hours. I deserve this.”

“I guess,” Maya pouted, drinking the coffee, sweetened perfectly to how she likes it. She sighed in contentment, leaning against Claudine’s side, enjoying her warmth and scent more than she did the breakfast. Claudine idly brushed Maya’s hair, humming a nameless tune as Maya worked on finishing her breakfast.

“Maya?”

“Yes?”

“You need to take a shower, you smell like sake.”

“Join me?”

“Fine.” Claudine took a sip of her mimosa, which Maya felt odd that she put in a regular glass instead of their champagne flutes.

“Claudine?”

“Yes Maya?”

“What did I do last night?”

Claudine smirked. “You accidentally punched Jin-san in the face, Futaba has it on video, you’re really funny when drunk.”

Maya groaned, pressing her face against Claudine’s side. “I have to apologize for that. Please tell me I apologized.”

“You did,” Claudine began to rub at her back. “Though to be fair, Jin-san did think it was funny too. Not like he’d get mad at you, you’re basically his favorite.”

“Did I really ask if you were single?”

Claudine laughed, laying a kiss on the top of Maya’s head. “Unfortunately not, I married this idiot when she proposed to me you see.”

“Your idiot,” Maya mumbled. “FOREVER.”

Notes:

P.S.
Yes I know alcohol doesn't work that way, I just wanted an excuse to make Maya act like that
