Chapter Text
One moment, Alex was getting ready to punch an asshole hero, the next they were standing on a roof they’d never seen before with someone they did not recognize in front of them. Was this one of the heroes dirty tricks? They could sense that their powers were now accessible, which meant that they had left the Eternity Area, which would make that a very stupid trick, if that was the case. Of course, trying to confront Alex in the first place was always a stupid idea.
They stared at the man in front of them, fist still raised. His scent was very faint, and they could just barely make out the cedar and something that was uniquely beta. As for looks, he was an unassuming fella, features hardly worth remembering. A mop of dirty blond hair, blue eyes, wearing a jacket with a ridiculous amount of full pockets. Hands in his pockets and a slouch that screamed of forced relaxation. He, unfortunately, ruined the whole ‘cool’ look with a slack-jawed expression, but it was oddly endearing. Might as well put an end to this. He lowered his arms from where they had been raised during the battle.
“You are not what I was about to punch. You just, what, summoned me out of the Eternity Area? Why? Were you expecting a favor?”
The man startled, but did close his mouth, so they’d say they were somewhat successful. He seemed to compose himself rather quickly though, choosing to clasp his hands behind his back and rocked back on his heels, a mischievous gleam in his eyes. “Well, I mean, my powers aren't perfect, as you might be able to guess, but they can be useful at times.”
The beta glanced down and quickly shot back up to make eye contact. The top of his ears had started to turn an amusing shade of red. “Umm… do you happen to be able to summon some clothes? Or, if you prefer being naked, that’s fine too. Were you already naked beforehand? You seem surprisingly chill about it. I mean, no real complaints here.”
At this, he leaned slightly forward with his hands still behind his back, squinting slightly, as if that would help improve his vision, and started to walk around where Alex stood frozen, inspecting, his eyes firmly stayed above their waist, not straying down. They traced over their muscle definition and he let out a low whistle. “Wouldn't blame you if you did choose to walk around like that. Pretty sure that your picture is right there in the textbook next to Alpha. Wow, they really didn't cut any corners making you, did they?”
The alpha looked down for the first time since the teleportation. Ahh, that would be why it felt a bit breezy. To be honest, they had accidentally incinerated or destroyed their own clothes for such a long enough time that it was hardly worth noticing when they weren’t there, and as the beta had pointed out, they definitely didn’t have anything to be ashamed of when they did happen to lose them. They snapped, summoning some of their spare clothes from the lair and started to put them on. Thankfully, the other filled the space with chatter.
“Oh, um, good. Right. Anyways, back to your question, no, I don’t expect you to owe me a favor. To be completely honest, I just wanted to fuck the heroes over. They always assume that, because I’m a D-lister, I would be easy to take out, not able to screw them over. I usually stick to heists, but this seemed like the perfect opportunity to show them. But yeah, my name’s Morgan.” At this, the beta, Morgan, stuck out his hand.
Alex paused where they were buttoning their shirt and stared at him for just a moment. So he just wanted to screw the heroes over? That was something they could get behind. Gladly, in fact. Alex had had a plan to escape but it definitely wasn’t as simple as the beta’s. The man was getting more interesting with each sentence. They resumed buttoning their shirt before taking his hand. It was warm and calloused, a firm grip but not a domineering one.
“Alex. Lovely to meet you. Now, where are we?” They released his hand and walked over to the edge of the roof. Peering down, they saw a red brick outer wall of the building and some rickety looking stairs for a fire escape. It seemed like any other apartment complex in Capital City.
“Oh! Yeah, this is my apartment complex. I thought I’d summon you on the roof because I didn’t know if you’d be bloody from the battle with the heroes.” Alex felt their eye twitch. Did he think that they were an amateur? How disappointing.
Morgan walked over to where they were standing and peered over with them. “Didn’t think you would, but you never know. Heroes seem to bleed a lot around you and it tends to get everywhere. Blood is a bitch to clean out, especially on carpet and while I may be the landlord, that still means I’d have to pay for it.” With that he turned with a small smile.
Oh. It was decided. This beta had completely captured their interest. “Ah, yes. We hadn’t even started the physical fight yet. They had used trickery to get me into the Eternity Area. It was actually almost impressive, if not foolhardy.” They looked over at their companion. His hair was casually being tousled by the wind and he still had that smile on his face. Fuck. They cleared their throat. “Well, if that’s all, I’m going to head out now.”
Morgan gave them a casual salute and wink. “See you around.”
Alex snapped and returned to their lair. Their pulse seemed to be racing and the last image of him seared into their memory. The intrigue they felt was different than any other time they’d experienced it before. God, Alex hoped they saw him around again. It would be intriguing to see what else he got up to.
