Work Text:
Shiro wakes up slow and steady, from a sleep so good and restful it puts to shame all the sleeps he's had in the last years of his life.
It's only obvious, he recalls, as he's not used to having a body again after so long.
The exhaustion is welcome, though, because it means he can feel. It means he has a body to connect with reality. And as much as the heaviness of tiredness isn't taken for granted anymore, the fact that he can sleep and rest and wake up feeling complete, is very much appreciated.
It makes it better when what he opens his eyes to is Keith, looking down at him with such a wonder, as if he can't believe he's in his arms, cradled close to his chest in something that can't be other thing than a cuddle.
"Hey," Keith whispers, quiet and soft.
Shiro loves how pretty his voice sounds. Loves how he's everything he can look at right now, his face and eyes and black hair being everything his sight exists for.
"How are you feeling?" He asks, because it's what he always asks whenever Shiro wakes up.
Because he's just so attentive Shiro feels as the most important thing in the universe.
'I'm in love with you,' Shiro confesses in his mind, staring up at the way Keith's lashes curl and his lip crooks and his eye twinkles. "Never been better."
Keith huffs, amused.
But Shiro can see it — he's pleased. He likes that Shiro can say that while on his arms, face so close to the crook of his neck that with just a move he can bury himself in there.
"Never, huh?" Keith whispers, thinking of any other moment Shiro has felt on the top of the world.
"Never," Shiro assures, and the words just bubble out: "Nothing will ever be as good as being with you."
Keith's eyes brighten. "Shiro-"
"I love you," he whispers at last, catching Keith off-guard, "You're everything I wish for."
And it may sound too devoted. It may be too wistful. Shiro has always been too much for anyone.
But Keith's breath hitches and then he's leaning down, kissing Shiro's lips.
"I love you, too," he mutters, nose brushing Shiro's cheek and pulling him tight to his chest, "Shiro..."
Keith is everything Shiro wants to see his whole life.
