Work Text:
It was never meant to be this way: she was supposed to remain asleep. At least until everything could be fixed and yet, she’d be forced to awaken; to deal with a situation that she’d never really been meant to handle. It was not meant to fall on her shoulders.
Unfortunately, fate could be cruel.
At least she’d been given a protector of sorts; fate was not malicious enough to send her on this errand helpless and alone. That would’ve been twice as cruel. It was bad enough to have to carry a burden that she’d not been meant to carry alone. She was also able to gain additional help as well from those that she fought along the way. Something else to be grateful about.
Looking above at the constantly cloudy sky, the Snow of Death falling around her, covering the ground in what should’ve been a lovely sheet of white; the young girl realized that she might not make it out of this alive. It was almost depressing to think about, but she chose not to – as long as she could fix what had been so terribly broken – then death was the least of her worries.
Of course, the more of the Blighted that she purified, the harder it had become for her to move. The agony of carrying such a burden making it to where the idea of walking made her want to cry. She wouldn’t. It’d only make her Spirits worry over her more than they already were.
Glancing over to her right, she could see the Ruined Castle. It was the next place she had to visit – the pulsing within her body told her that the next step of her quest was located within. The next being that needed help; that needed to be purified. At least she had been able to obtain the Mad Knight, Ulv. That would help her out quite a bit with this mission. For that is what this whole mess had become: a mission to purify the Blighted and to end the Rain of Death. To bring life back into the world. If only it were as easy as it sounded.
Then again, if it’d been easy, she’d have not been needed.
Taking a deep breath, Lily glanced back to the snow-covered ground. Her feet had not yet touched it, but already they were aching something terrible. The desire to just remain at the fire was strong, but the tugging on her soul was far more persistent.
Looking up once again, for a moment, she could feel it. Slowly, she was losing this fight…but it was far too late for her to turn back and flee. No, she had to keep going. Hopefully, she didn’t die before the end of all this mess. She had to make it through, to know the truth, to know why she had no memories and why she’d been forced to sleep for as long as she had been; to make sense of everything that had happened.
So, she’d continue to fight…until the very end.
