Work Text:
“You are staring at me like a pervert,” Annie said in a low voice.
Annie speaking made Armin step out of his trance. He blushed immediately and looked away. They were at the beach, sitting in the damp sand, the waves came and washed their feet. They were silent for most of the time. Just enjoying each other's company and the sound of the waves.
“Sorry,” Armin said.
Annie looked at him.
“I thought once you looked at the ocean you would never take your eyes off of it.”
“Well, it’s just…” Armin stopped himself from finishing this sentence and looked away, his face even redder.
“It’s just what?” Annie asked.
Armin looked at her through the corner of his eye and said: “Your Beauty Beats the Ocean.”
Silence.
Now it was Annie’s turn to blush and look away, her hair creating a curtain that hid her expression.
Annie let out a chuckle.
“Six years together, three years of marriage and with a child on the way, we still blush like teenagers. We never grew up, did we?” Annie said, chuckling a little bit while rubbing her bump fondly.
Armin smiled and scooted closer to her. He put his arm around her shoulder and one hand on top of her bump. Annie instantly put her head on his shoulder. Armin looked at the bump after he didn’t feel any movement underneath his hand.
“She’s awfully quiet,” Armin said, trying to hide his nerves. Ever since they found out about Annie’s pregnancy, Armin had a gut feeling that it would be a girl, to the point where he would refer to the unborn child as Annie Jr. because of the way the baby kicked so hard that it startled Annie.
Annie put her hand on top of his. “She was awake an hour ago, but as soon as we sat down, she calmed down. Don’t worry, she’s taking a nap. The sounds of the waves must have lulled her to sleep. She’s just like her father.” Annie said, smiling, remembering the many times she and Armin would come to the beach and he would fall asleep with his head on her lap.
“I’m glad she loves the ocean as much as I do.”
“How could she not? You are always telling her stories about the ocean and the creatures that live there. Her nursery is basically ocean themed. And I’m pretty sure we conceived her not too far away from here.” That last statement made Armin blush even harder than before.
Annie kissed his cheek.
“The next time we come here, it’s going to be with her.” Armin said, with a dreamy voice full of promise.
Annie hummed in agreement.
In Armin’s hand is a seashell very similar to the one he grabbed when he first saw the ocean. That one and the new one are going to his baby’s nursery, and hopefully more will join them.
