Dear readers,
For years, I left my Harry Potter fics up mainly because of laziness but also because if it wasn't for these fics, I never would have polished my writing enough to be good enough to finish my original novel, "Dalia Ravenstone and the Vicious Circle." Moreover, my novel wouldn’t have existed as an idea, as it was originally an idea for a crossover fanfic between the Addams Family and Harry Potter, and I just didn't want to make another fanfic while I was writing two already. So I made my own witch world, populated with lots of queer characters, trans characters, and autistic characters, among others, and the first book has been published. I have links in my profile/bio.
But it has become clear to me that leaving these up just encourages people who are either agree with Rowling’s bigotry, or who are too ignorant or too cowardly to stop reading her stuff. The woman is a bigot and an abuser, using her money and power to hurt thousands of women across the globe but especially in the UK by funding and founding hate groups that push transphobic laws that make our already difficult lives as trans women massively more difficult. That woman has become Madam Umbridge to so many people. Her series also shows her to be racist and antisemitic as well (genuinely antisemitic, not the “you’re critical of Israel’s genocide and so we’re going to call you antisemitic when you’re not” kind). The goblins in the series are the antisemitic caricatures of Jewish people from folklore, with basically no attempt to comment on or counteract the stereotypes they were based on. Hell, she’s even bigoted against Irish people! The one and only Irish character in the series makes things explode. If you don’t know why that’s disgusting, look up the conflicts in Northern Ireland.
The woman is basically Madam Umbridge, in that she delights in making life for the people she hates worse. Trans people already have enough bad shit going on in our lives without people like her using their money and power to make it worse.
So I am begging you, find another fandom. Stop reading Harry Potter fics, stop interacting with Harry Potter stuff, because at this point it’s kinda like still being a fan of Mein Kaumpf. Your interactions with her intellectual property, even when you’re not giving her any money, just makes her think she’s right and that people agree with her.
So just stop, and find another fandom to love instead. I hear the Animorphs author has a trans daughter and is very trans positive. Read Animorphs fan fiction. Or Percy Jackson; that series is very inclusive. Or heck, read my book. I can’t link to it here, but my name is Fay Anne Aura Arts, and the title is up above. Search for it on a search engine. It’s even free, because I don’t care about the money. Just, please, stop engaging with the works of the bigot known as J. K. Rowling.
If you aren’t going to do that, then keep that information to yourself. Anyone commenting for any reason other than to say they’ve been inspired to leave the Harry Potter fandom, or to ask about my non-fandom writing, will be immediately blocked, and their comment deleted. So don’t waste your time and mine both.
