Chapter Text

“No! Mitsuki! That’s not how it works!” Boruto screamed.

“I’m sorry, Boruto.”

“Shikadai is gonna win again!”

“Doesn’t Shikadai always win?”

Shikadai laughed and leaned back on the couch while Boruto scowled watching Mitsuki’s screen as he lost the game. The doorbell rang, and Boruto got up to go answer it.

“Is Sarada coming too?” Shikadai asked.

“No,” he answered, wondering who it could be.

He was almost to the door when Kawaki came running down the stairs, “I’ll get it.”

“That’s okay, I–”

Kawaki shoved past him, “I said I’ll get it!”

“You don’t have to be so rude all the time, ya know.”

When Kawaki opened the door, it was the Class Rep standing there.

“Class Rep!”

“Hi, Boruto-kun.”

“What are you doing here?”

“I–”

“We’re leaving,” Kawaki said, starting to walk out the door.

Boruto raised an eyebrow, “Where are you going?”

“I don’t ask you where you’re going,” he was already closing the door behind them, “I’ll be back later.”

“Bye!” the Class Rep called.

“Bye?” He stared at the closed door for a second before he turned to go back to the living room. When he did, he saw Shikadai standing in the doorway.

“I didn’t know they hung out.”

Boruto shrugged.

“When we asked him to play video games with us he said no.”

“Maybe he doesn’t like us,” Mitsuki suggested.

“But he likes Class Rep,” Shikadai smirked.

Boruto looked at him, “What does that mean?”

“What do you think it means, Boruto?”

Boruto took his game back from Mitsuki and sat on the couch. “It’s my turn.”

Boruto didn’t look up from his game for a long time, but Shikadai still won anyway. Shikadai could only stay for a few more rounds, and Mitsuki left soon after. He thought about continuing the game by himself, but somehow it didn’t seem as fun anymore. He went upstairs to see what Himawari was doing, but when he walked into her room he tripped over her stuffed Shukaku, ruining the meticulous formation she’d placed her stuffed animals in. After she kicked him out, he went back downstairs to see if his mother needed any help with dinner, but Hinata seemed to have everything under control. Boruto had just sat down on the couch again when the front door opened. At the sound, his head snapped right to see who it was.

“I’m home!”

Himawari came running down the stairs at the sound of her father’s voice, “Papa!”

Naruto walked into the room smiling, carrying Himawari. Sniffing the air, he said, “Good thing I made it home in time.”

“Dinner’s almost ready,” Hinata announced, “Hima, will you help set the table?”

Naruto put Hima down and she ran through the kitchen to grab what she needed.

“Slow down,” Naruto chuckled as she almost crashed into him.

“Do I set a place for Kawaki?”

Boruto turned his game back on.

Naruto looked around, “He’s not here?”

Hima shook her head, “He left.”

“Where did he go?”

Hima shrugged.

“Boruto, where’s Kawaki?”

Boruto didn’t look up, “I don’t know.”

“He didn’t say where he was going?”

“No.”

“Did he say when he was coming back?” Hinata asked.

“No.”

“Do I set a place for him?” Hima asked again.

“I’m sure he’ll be back soon,” Naruto said.

“Boruto, put your game away now. It’s time to eat.”

They were halfway through dinner when Kawaki finally came through the door.

“Sorry I’m late.”

“It’s okay, Kawaki.”

“Where were you?” Boruto asked as Kawaki sat down.

Kawaki looked at him, “Out.”

“That’s not an answer.”

“Boruto!”

“It doesn’t matter where he was,” Naruto said, “He’s here now. Let’s just eat.”

Boruto didn’t say anything for the rest of the meal. When he was finished eating, he put his dishes in the sink and started up the stairs.

“Heading upstairs already, Boruto?” Naruto asked.

“I’m supposed to train with Sarada and Mitsuki in the morning.”

“Oh, okay then. Get some rest.”

Without answering, Boruto went to his room and shut the door.
