suprised to see me

Summary:

"That's nice---"

The loud sound of an engine revving in the distance echoed in the air, a sound that was quickly getting close and closer. Collectively, their heads whipped towards the entrance, where, after a few minutes of their confused blinking, a motorcycle pulled up, sleek black metal ridden by a person in the guy's uniform of their rival high school, face hidden by a red motorcycle helmet.

The guy on the bike did something that Yuna couldn't see, and the rumbling in the air cut out, the shiny metal of the machine stilling. He swung his legs over the side and stepped off, brushing at his clothes with glove-covered hands.

Everyone in the courtyard stared at him.

"What's happening?" Yuna whispered frantically to the side, turning slightly to meet the similarly frazzled eyes of her two best friends.

Chapter 1: jay

Chapter Text

It is a universal fact that everyone loves Kim Sunoo.

The moment he'd walked into their classroom a few weeks after term started, uniform perfectly pressed without creases, hair immaculately tidy, trailing the soft, sweet scent of roses behind him to stand at the front of the room, smile shyly at them and introduce himself, the whole thirty body class of 2-5 had immediately fallen head over heels. It took a day for the news to travel of his arrival and angelic nature, and by the end of the week he had the entire faculty and student body wrapped around his finger.

Sunoo was extremely nice. He tried to make sure everyone was included, even the shyest among them, talking with whomever whenever with a smile on his face. He volunteered to help with any problems the teachers had when it was clear the rest of them really, really didn't want to, and he smiled so wide his eyes turned into crescents, chubby cheeks puffed up so cutely at least three people fainted whenever he did it.

Yuna had a wonderful girlfriend, whom she cared for very, very deeply, so she wasn't as into the Sunoo craze that rampaged the school as everyone else, but one time she had seen him take out his wallet and pay for the lunches of four younger students before returning to their class, withholding from eating just to make sure their younger peers could, so she'd grown her own little fondness for the living embodiment of sunshine that learned with them.

Her other friends... not so much.

"He is literally the most perfect man to walk the planet," Aeri said, puckering her lips into her mirror. She daintily reapplied her lipgloss, smoothing the soft pink shimmer across her lips gently, as to not smudge it. "Like that man has no flaws whatsoever."

"He's dreamy," Hanuel sighed. He'd been entranced ever since the day he and Sunoo had bumped into one another and the younger boy had helped him pick up his dropped notes, spluttering apologies the whole time, and then handed them to him with a shy grin and a, "Sorry, Hanuel-hyung!" as he scurried off.

He'd called it his 'gay awakening' until Yuna had reminded him that his actual gay awakening had been his college-aged next door neighbour when they were seven, who had his morning runs at five am, which Haneul would set his alarm to wake up and watch religiously. He would then fall asleep and be late to school every single time the guy came back from university.

That reminder had earned her a slap on the back of the head.

"He's... really nice?" She said. Sure, she liked Sunoo like everyone else, but she was still a bit weirded out by the cult-like obsession that had taken over her pretty normal school once the younger guy had arrived.

Aeri and Haneul shot her twin looks of incredulance.

"Yuna, you're literally a lesbian, your opinion on this topic means nothing to us," they said in unison. Yuna stuck her tongue out at them.

"I have eyes, y'know. I know he's attractive. I just find it weird that we have to wait here every day to watch him leave just in case the two of you can finally gather enough courage to ask for his number."

Sunoo leaves the school at exactly four-thirty, half an hour after school ends, every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays, when he has choir practice. He always stayed back to help clean the classroom and run any errands the teachers asked of him, because he was just that nice. She didn't think any of them had ever met someone so willing to help out.

Her friends had taken it upon themselves to stand vigil at the entrance after school, in the rain, wind or shine, just to get a glimpse of him and maybe finally be able to go up and have a conversation with him, rather than sitting there pining all the time. Yuna only stood with them because her own wonderful, amazing girlfriend did the same thing, so they often left at the same time. Her Eunha-unnie was an angel on Earth, and they walked to and from school together every day. Yuna honestly didn't know what she'd do without her.

"You don't understand true love," Aeri says, closing her hand mirror with a snap! Yuna gave her the stink-eye.

"I am literally dating the love of my life."

Haneul sighs again. "You dont have to remind us that you're getting your kisses in while we're thirsting after the most unattainable boy in the whole school, noona."

She pats him on the head as he pouts at her.

"You'll get a boyfriend some day, Haneul-ah," she placated. "Maybe don't aim for the school's collective crush though. I think Jimin-ah from 2-3 might be gay? And he's single!"

"Jimin-hyung hates me," he deadpanned. Yuna smiled at him, thinking of the time Jimin had walked straight into a door because he was too busy watching Haneul laugh as they walked by to head for lunch.

"Whatever you say." She turned to Aeri. "What about you? I thought you were trying to get the attention of that guy in the Drama club?"

Aeri scoffed. "He's an Aquarius. I'm a Scorpio. It'd never work out."

Yuna nodded, but she didn't really understand. Aeri's eyes started to sparkle.

"Sunoo-oppa, however, is a Cancer, and Scorpio is literally the most compatible sign to be with a Cancer. We just get each other. It's like Romeo and Juliet; we're star-crossed lovers, destined to be together." Aeri sighed dreamily, flouncing back against the fence with a hand draped dramatically across her forehead. Always the entertainer.

She didn't want to get slapped again, so she refrained from reminding Aeri that the other girl had said that exact same thing about the last three or four boys she had a crush on, complete with the same dramatic movements.

Yuna was never gonna understand straight people.

Haneul shrugged, and Aeri looked about two seconds away from fainting.

"I don't know!" She hissed, grabbing her arm. "He's not here to do anything to the school, right? It's not like there's any massive beef between us. The only competition we have is the football teams, and our team sucks!"

They had yearly competitive games, but the last time their team had won was the year the school was founded, and they were a school mostly known for their creative pursuits, so their odds this year were definitely not good.

The boy shifted awkwardly to each foot at the entrance, obviously a bit uncomfortable with all the eyes on him. He reached up, unclasping the bottom of his helmet and pulled it off his head, shaking his hair out.

"Oh my god," Haneul whispered, mouth open.

Simply put, this guy was attractive.

Dyed blond hair that parted in the middle, falling into his eyes in curtains, the edges of his roots showing through deep black hair. Piercings glittered on his ears. His jaw was sharp, his nose sloped and lips plump. His eyes surveyed them all, dark irises skating across all of their faces from under perfectly thick eyebrows.

Yuna didn't like men and even she was a little flustered under his gaze.

"I want to have his babies."

Yuna turned to her friend so fast she got whiplash. "Ewww! Aeri, what the hell!"

She pushed her. Aeri stumbled, squawking, into Haneul's side, her blonde pigtails whipping in the wind.

"What was that for!" She hissed.

"You can't just say stuff like that!" Yuna countered, feeling her face flush.

Aeri scoffed at her.

"That guy is the singular most hottest guy I have seen in my life! Do you think he's here to pick someone up? Do you think he'd give me his number if I asked?" Aeri began rifling in her bag, pulling out various crumpled pieces of paper, two tubes of lipgloss and even some won in search for her phone.

"If he's here to pick someone up why would he give you his number?" Haneul pointed out. Yuna nodded her agreeance.

Aeri let out an excited sound as she finally managed to fish out her baby blue cell.

"I'm probably hotter than his girlfriend," she replied, fighting with her false nails as she always did when trying to open it, "plus, he's got that sort of bad boy look, y'know? He might not mind having a second option."

Yuna grimaced at her. "Sometimes I wonder how we're friends."

Just as Aeri was about to rush out to talk to the boy, Yuna caught the sight of a familiar silhouette out of the corner of her eye. She grabbed her friend by the wrist, tugging her back to her side.

"What are you---"

"Sunoo's there," she interrupted her. "It wouldn't look good for you if you went over and asked that guy for his number and then went talking to Sunoo, would it?"

Aeri groaned. "I hate it when you're right."

She fell back into the fence with a huff, crossing her arms. Yuna's eyes flickered from Sunoo to the boy standing at the entrance. The school year had only started a few weeks ago and there were already so many strange occurrences happening.

Sunoo continued to walk out of the school, seemingly oblivious to the stares he was receiving from everyone. He was smiling that familiar, crescent moon smile, hands clasped around the handle of his bag as his gaze swept across the courtyard, as if he was taking in the sights. His eyes turned to the middle of the entrance, where the guy still stood, helmet clutched between his hands and stopped, eyes widening and mouth opening in shock.

"Jay-hyung?!" He shouted.

...huh?

The boy, Jay, it seemed, smiled at him, switching the helmet over to a single hand so he could wave the other at Sunoo, a fond look on his face. Sunoo's own face brightened with poorly disguised joy and he began to run over to the boy, the smile on his face increasing tenfold.

"The hot guy..." Haneul began.

"Is here for Sunoo?" Aeri finished.

Sunoo reached the guy, grinning up at him, and began talking excitedly, saying something they were too far away to hear. Jay looked down at him, reaching and ruffling his hair. He replied, face impassive but eyes dripping in unhidden adoration.

Sudden warmth engulfed her back, Yuna letting out a little shriek before calming as the familiar scent of vanilla filled her nose.

"Why are we staring at Sunoo and the hot guy by the gate?"

"Unnie!" She yelled happily, whirling around to nuzzle into her girlfriend's neck. She sighed in content, ignoring the twin sounds of fake gagging behind her from her two best friends.

"We're staring because motorbike hottie over there came to our school to pick up the school's angel! This is serious business!" Aeri exclaimed. She looked about three seconds away from fainting. Or snapping a bunch of pictures, Yuna wasn't sure.

"Do you think they're dating?" Haneul asked.

Yuna turned around again to watch as Sunoo threw his head back and laughed, arms wrapping around the motorbike guy's arm. He lightly jostled the other guy, comfortably playful in a way they'd never seen him before. Jay simply chuckled back at him, once again ruffling his hair before turning to grab the other helmet slung over the handlebars of his vehicle, which he handed to Sunoo.

Sunoo gently placed it on his head, pushing the hair out of his eyes before starting to fiddle with the buckle, tongue poking out of his mouth in concentration. After a few minutes of fumbling he huffed and leaned into the older boy, batting his eyes up at him innocently.

"They're definitely dating," Yuna said, watching the light blush that came across the stranger's face at the motion. He sighed and gently adjusted the buckle under Sunoo's chin, nimble fingers tightening the straps before snapping the clasp together. The motion was familiar and tender, matching the still adoring look in his eyes.

"Or if they're not, motorbike guy is seriously whipped. He looks at him the way I look at you, baby," her girlfriend added, arms tightening around her waist. Yuna felt her cheeks flush.

They watched as Jay fixed his own helmet back onto his head, obscuring his face from view, before swinging himself back onto his motorcycle. He pat the back seat twice, and Sunoo pulled himself onto it, wrapping his arms around the guy's waist comfortably, as if they'd done it a thousand times before. He snuggled into the guy's back, face pressed between his shoulder blades, arms tightening around his stomach.

The machine roared to life under the stranger's hands, that distinct rumble filling the air, and they were off, shooting away from the school as quickly as the guy had arrived, leaving a courtyard full of confused students behind them.

It was quiet in the aftermath. No one really knew what to say.

It was Haneul who broke the silence by groaning loudly.

"Why are the attractive guys always taken?" He moaned, flopping down into the grass with a sigh.

"And why are they always taken by such hotties! C'mon Sunoo-oppa, leave some beefcakes for the rest of us!" Aeri added, sounding almost as if she was going to cry.

Yuna looked down at her defeated friends, then looked up to meet the sparkling brown eyes of her girlfriend.

"Things around here just got a lot more interesting," her Eunha-unnie said, sounding amused. Yuna just burrowed herself back into her arms, wondering what was happening to her normal highschool life.
