Under the Veil of Night

Summary:

They always made sure to wish the other sweet dreams...

Work Text:

Some nights, she was already in bed, sprawled out like a cat in the sun, and he’d have to puzzle piece his body to fit on what little space remained of the mattress.

Other nights he was there first, head turned to the side as he softly snored, and she’d try her best to not disturb the easily awoken man.

Then there were nights where they were together, but separate. He might be reading a book by Carl Sagan and she might be playing the newest dating game on her phone. It varied on who turned out the light first, but both would be contented to stay on their side of the bed until morning.

Very rarely, there would be nights with them clinging onto the other, caught in a hellish nightmare. It was so easy to believe the past was behind them, that everything that ever happened was only a fever dream, chalked up to the imagination of a couple kids. It didn’t make these nights any less painful as they wrapped their arms wrap tightly around each other.

And of course, there were nights where they were embracing for a completely different reason. Heavy breathing, sweat gliding down their bodies, merging together like two halves of a heart. Their whispers only known to the moon.

However, no matter what kind of night it was, they always made sure to wish the other sweet dreams, whether it be through text, a sleepy conversation, or a soft murmur said unknowingly to the other.
