“Take me away and let’s go to an island, my love, let’s fucking buy it even, and get five dogs and maybe a cat and sail away into the sunset together.”
“God,” said Kyungsoo, but he was laughing, “you’re crazy.” And they were kissing again, pressed up against the wall, and Baekhyun — shit, he was so in love. Kyungsoo’s voice and his smile and his everything, Baekhyun was so taken by him, by the way he held him at the hips and tilted his head and looked at him like he was the world.
They were making their way to a bedroom experience when Baekhyun’s phone rang in his pocket. Breathlessly, they parted.
“Are you going to get that?” Kyungsoo asked. He looked thoroughly kissed, lips all red and cheeks all flushed. He looked so handsome. Baekhyun was so fucking lucky.
His phone was still ringing. Stupidly, he realized he’d been staring at him. “I- damn it, I guess I should.”
It was probably for the best. They were in the middle of the kitchen, after all. Not that anyone could see them from three stories up. Still, Baekhyun fumbled to check who it was.
“Well?”
“It’s Jongin.”
“Jongin, your ex who you were crazy in love with?”
Baekhyun winced. “If you must put it that way.”
“Are you going to pick up?”
Chewing his lip, he stared at the name blinking on the screen. It felt like there should have been some thought there. Some sort of hesitation. A desire for closure, or something. But he already had his answer. How shocking it was, that it was so clear. “No,” he said finally.
“Really?”
“Do you want me to pick up?”
“No,” Kyungsoo said. As Baekhyun put his phone back in his pocket, Kyungsoo brought his hands to rest on his sides again, gently kneading. “No,” Kyungsoo repeated, “but if you want to, then you should.”
“I thought maybe I should want to.”
“Hm.”
“Except I don’t. Not anymore.”
Kyungsoo smiled. “Any special reason for that?”
There were many. Really, though, it all came down to one thing. As if he knew it too, Kyungsoo’s eyes sparkled. Baekhyun tilted his head as if he was thinking. “Maybe… you?”
“Me?”
“Maybe I’d rather kiss you instead.”
A quiet laugh. Kyungsoo leaned in, brushed his lips gently against Baekhyun’s. “I’ll kiss you as much as you want.”
“It’s so strange,” said Baekhyun, as his phone fell silent. He felt that peculiarity even more. “I love you so much. And it’s so different.”
Kyungsoo thought about that. “Good different?”
“Yeah,” Baekhyun said. “Good different.”
It was a good kind of different, too, to see someone so happy just from something he said, and to feel so happy seeing someone else so happy. It just made so much sense. Everyone always said love was confusing, and Baekhyun believed it. But maybe he’d gotten it all wrong. Maybe love wasn’t as convoluted as he’d thought. Maybe it was something as simple as steadiness, and trust, and Kyungsoo’s smile as he leaned in again.
“Five dogs and a cat?” Kyungsoo asked teasingly.
“What about two?”
“Two cats?”
“Yeah.”
Kyungsoo laughed. In that moment, Baekhyun felt his heart slow, like time seemed to as Kyungsoo shook his head and moved closer. “Alright.”
