Work Text:
Renjun was the type of person that would butt heads with all of his peers. Ever since he became a part of the fairy godparent agency he was always an outlier.
While Renjun hated working in the office, he loved being able to help his kids out.
For the past few months, Renjun had been assigned to this kid called Jisung. The boy was a very timid soul and he didn't have any friends, Renjun was his only one.
“Renjun!” Jisung called as he walked into his bedroom, “I’m home.”
Renjun appeared when the boy summoned him, sitting on the small bed, “How was school, Jisung?”
Jisung hummed, “Well I finished reading a book today on the bus ride home. The ending was so good!”
“That’s great Jisung. Did anything else happen?” Renjun knew that the book wasn’t the only reason the boy was joyful. Even in a short time, Renjun had gotten to know Jisung very well.
The boy’s face grew flushed as Renjun pried, “Um, so,” he stuttered, “Well there was a new kid introduced to our class,” his voice was quiet as he revealed the information.
“Really?” Renjun was surprised that the boy was sharing the information with him, “Did something happen Sung?”
“Um at lunch today,” he started, voice somehow even softer than previously, “he sat with me and tried to talk with me.”
Renjun’s eyes widened at the information, worry apparent on his face. Jisung had been bullied for not having friends at school, so he was very wary of anyone talking to him, “Did anything happen?”
“No, no, no,” Jisung shook his head violently, “He was actually very nice,” The boy smiled brightly.
“Oh my god! That’s incredible Sungie! Tell me about him,” Renjun smiled as he leaned toward Jisung to hear the story.
“Well,” The boy started, “I was sitting alone at the table as usual when he started walking over. I was honestly really worried that he was coming over to tease me about having no friends. Instead, he sat down with this absolutely stunning smile and asked me what my name was,” Jisung was grinning from ear to ear, “I told him my name and he said his name was Chenle and that he moved here from China.”
“That’s so good Jisung! What else?”
The boy excitedly continued, “He asked if he could just talk with me, as he noticed I didn’t talk much and I said sure. Then he started telling me all about his home country and how nervous he was to move here. It was so cute to see him reminisce about his home,” Jisung scrunched his nose happily, “Anyways, he talked with me throughout all of lunch and it was amazing.”
“I am so happy for you Sungie!” Renjun smiled brightly, “I have a good feeling about him.”
Months quickly flew by. Jisung had started to grow closer with Chenle, and he finally felt accepted by someone.
Renjun was absolutely thrilled to see how the boy grew. To him, it felt like the Jisung he had met nearly a year prior was a completely different person.
Jisung’s amazing progress meant something deeper to Renjun though. The fairy godfather knew he would have to let go of the boy soon.
While Renjun was at headquarters one day he was called into the president’s office.
“Renjun,” The president said sternly, “We have come to the conclusion that you shall no longer be assigned to Park Jisung.”
The fairy godfather dreaded those words. While he knew it was apart of the job, his heart hurt dearly at the thought of losing connection with Jisung
“Sir,” Renjun started, “You can assign me to someone else, but I will still be Jisung’s godfather.”
The president sighed, “That’s not allowed Renjun,” disappointment filled his features,
“I know, but I just can’t,” Renjun frowned, “I can’t just leave him like everyone else has.”
The president's eyes softened, “Alright, but only for this one okay?”
Renjun nodded gratefully, “Thank you sir!” a radiant smile on his face.
“Jisung, Chenle!” Renjun appeared in the boy’s room seeing the two boys curled up together on the bed, “I have good news!”
Jisung sat up with wide eyes, “What happened?” Chenle sat up with Jisung, a confused look on his face.
“I am able to stay with you Jisung!” Joy flowed through Renjun’s voice, “Even though I might be assigned to someone else, I am still going to be your godfather!”
“Oh my god!” Jisung got up and ran into Renjun’s arms, “Really?” He asked as he looked at his godfather.
“Really,” Renjun smiled and hugged the boy back.
