Can I just escape

Summary:

Beomgyu wants to get out of reality, and wants to go to a place where no one will judge him. But is that possible?

Notes:

I did this in pieces because I really just wanted to get this posted. Enjoy!

Work Text:

“Let go of me!”

Beomgyu struggled trying to get his father’s grip off of the collar of his shirt. His father was yelling something, but all Beomgyu heard was a jumble of syllables. He didn’t care what his father thought. All he wanted to do was follow his dreams, but that seemed to be impossible. But Beomgyu kept fighting, never wanting to give up. But did Beomgyu think he should give up now?

Beomgyu completely blanked out. He still heard a jumble of syllables.

Then, he felt something sharp on his rib. Without thinking, he let out a high pitched wail. His head was spinning, and he lost his balance and hit his head on the wall. He felt his ears buzz and sharp pains everywhere. Then, it went quiet.

What even is problem?  Beomgyu had a nasty flashback. He wanted to cry again, but he managed to hold it back.

"YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO BE STUDYING AND TRYING TO GET INTO A COLLEGE!" His father's screams reverberated through the bedroom.

"Dad why can't you just let me do whatever I want?" Beomgyu asked, trying to stay calm, which seemed really hard given the situation now.

Beomgyu's dad took one step towards him, fire in his eyes. He grabbed Beomgyu's wrist so tight that Beomgyu thought that his blood supply was gonna cut. Beomgyu tried to wriggle free, but his father's grip was too strong.

Beomgyu heard his room door slam shut. Beomgyu waited for a couple minutes, and grabbed his phone and ran outside. His brother was staring at him, but that was the least of his problems. Beomgyu jumped on his bike, and started pedaling. The distance between his house and his bike was starting to grow.

Beomgyu’s feet were starting to hurt, but his brain was telling him to keep going, to get away, to a better place where no one would judge him. He was hyper focusing, but he knew he was doing it for a completely valid reason. Well, at least it was valid to him. Beomgyu could already picture what his life would be like if no one would point out everything he did wrong. As long as he didn't have to worry, then Beomgyu was starting to feel a little bit better.

Then, Beomgyu’s hands started to tremble, and his vision went all dark.

Beomgyu's cheek was really hurting a lot, and the fight with his father replayed in his mind. Beomgyu groaned and rolled over. His phone was buzzing with texts from Soobin, but he could hardly move his fingers, let alone pull out his phone.

He knew one thing. He was absolutely done with being alive.

---------------------------------

“Hey, wake up.”

Beomgyu felt someone shaking his shoulders. His eyes were still jammed shut, and when he opened them, a white light blinded his vision. He managed to see people moving, but to him, everything was blurry so he couldn’t really tell.

“Wake up!”

There was the voice again.

Who is it? Beomgyu thought. He started crying, his warm tears stinging the cuts on his cheeks he got when he fell off.

"Hey, don't cry."

Beomgyu felt a hand on his shoulder, and he blinked open eyes. But all he could see was a fuzzy black and white soup. He gathered the strength to wipe his eyes, and saw Soobin standing in front of him.

"Are you alright?" Soobin asked.

Beomgyu started crying again. What he really wanted to say was "No, I'm not fine, I want to die." But all he could muster was a weak whimper. Beomgyu heard doctors talking.

"...perhaps he needs therapy"

"...No..."

"...counseling."

"Please get me out of here, I'm fine!" Beomgyu cried. He felt a cold hand clutching his, and he turned around. Yeonjun was staring at him. His eyes were full of sympathy, and Beomgyu felt another wave of tears flow down his face. He managed to say what was on his mind.

"To be honest, I'm done with being alive. I just wanna die." Beomgyu choked out each word. Soobin and Yeonjun exchanged a horrified look, and muttered something that Beomgyu couldn't hear. Beomgyu closed his eyes.

"Beomgyu, we need you. You can't die. Besides, you can come live with me," Soobin said.

"We'll get your father arrested for child abuse. I think it's time," Yeonjun added.

"Thanks, but my life is still trash. What's the use of living if no one wants to care about me?" Beomgyu asked, staring at Soobin. Soobin looked at Yeonjun again, and sighed.

"Beomgyu, please. We care about you. Your father will end up realizing his actions were wrong. Please, we can't live without you," Soobin said, a tear rolling down his cheek. Just then, a doctor entered the room. Beomgyu sat up straight.

"I'm gonna need you two to leave the room," said the nurse, gesturing at Soobin and Yeonjun. They hesitated, but eventually left. Beomgyu felt all alone again as the nurse scribbled something in her notepad.

"Hi. I'm gonna ask you a few questions, that's it," said the nurse, smiling at Beomgyu. Beomgyu frowned and slumped back. He felt his stomach lurching, and his head throbbing.

"So, how did you injure yourself exactly?" the nurse asked, not looking at Beomgyu. Beomgyu groaned. He just wanted to disappear, not be in a hospital.

"I fell off my bike. That's it."

"Okay...then, have you ever sustained such injuries similar to this?"

"I don't want to be here right now. Can I answer this later?" Beomgyu asked, pushing the blanket off of him. The nurse looked at him sadly, then nodded and left the room. Beomgyu felt regretful that he shooed the nurse away.

Soobin and Yeonjun entered the room a few minutes after. They looked excited.

"Beomgyu! We've filed a police report about your father, and we're gonna get him arrested! Soobin's mom also said she'd adopt you!" Yeonjun said excitedly.

"No way! Really?" Beomgyu couldn't believe what he just heard. His heart was beginning to rise, and a new ray of hope was beginning to emerge. Was his father going to regret what he did? Would he really be living with Soobin? Many thoughts were going through his mind all at once.

"Yes. Beomgyu, you need a better life. Everybody knows that." Soobin looked at Beomgyu, and Beomgyu started to tear up, his vision blurring.

Suddenly, Beomgyu felt fine. He could put his past behind him. Because now, the future seemed more important, not the memories of his traumatic childhood. He knew he had a reason to live.

"Thank you guys."
