in the arms of the man that i love

Summary:

Toshinori falls asleep on the couch. Aizawa finds him after a long shift.

Work Text:

It's late. Reasonably, Toshinori should go to bed. It's well past two in the morning, and he still hasn't gotten a message back from Aizawa. Though patrol might actually be busy tonight, the graveyard shift was never as predictable. Yet still he waits. Even if just to see Aizawa come home. To see him safe, give him a kiss, and knead his hands into tense shoulders. Toshinori had always hated coming home to an empty penthouse before. The silence near deafening and the void left without another body to fill it leaving him aching and wanting. A lot had changed in his life in the past few years, but bringing Aizawa into his life had been a welcome one.

Even if he did work into the ungodly hours of night.

*One more hour,* Toshinori thinks to himself. Just one more hour of waiting, and then he'll go to bed. No sense in staying up *too* late. If he gets a few hours of sleep, he can at least get up and make breakfast for Aizawa in the morning. With a quiet yawn, he settles down across the couch; slippered feet dangling off the end. He checks the time on his phone. Thirty until three. No new messages. A brief moment of fear tugs at the back of his mind, but he pushes such thoughts away as he opens the 'TocTic' app. Toshinori doesn't really use it much besides looking at the videos Young Midoriya sends him from time to time, or finding cute cat videos to send to Aizawa. Though sometimes he does like looking at the videos Mic makes for a good chuckle.

Yet as he scrolls, he feels his eyes become... heavy. It's becoming harder and harder to stay awake. Maybe laying down hadn't been such a good idea. But his body is much too comfortable in this position, and the thought of moving becomes something unbearable. Toshinori huffs quietly as he lets his phone plop against his chest, tiredly rubbing at his eyes before leaning his head back against the pillow. Five minutes. He just... needs to rest his eyes...

Almost immediately his mind goes into a pleasant sort of buzz. Sleep is dragging him downwards into its clutches, and he has absolutely no intent of letting it stop. Even if he wonders why he faintly hears the quiet thud of a door opening and closing. Quiet steps of boots across a hardwood floor.  But none of that matters. Not when Aizawa's face slowly forms in front of him, smiling sweetly and peppering kisses along his jaw and calling him 'love' and--

An arm wedging itself under his back jolts him awake, eyes darting open with a quiet gasp. Everything in his body is telling him to *fight,* but everything comes skittering to a halt when he see's his love above him. Aizawa, dressed in a dark shirt and the familiar pink sweats. His hair sticks slightly to his forehead. Did he take a shower?

"Aizawa-kun...?" Toshinori croaks. What time was it? Oh, god, he'd let himself doze off! He immediately tries to get up, but a low grunt and a hand to his chest stills his movements.

"Relax."

Another arm works its way behind his knees and, and-- Toshinori's arms immediately scramble to try and hook themselves around Aizawa's neck. "Wa-- Wait!" Too big. He's too big, he can't possibly-- ... But he does. Surprisingly easy, actually. Toshinori can feel his heart thudding dangerously hard against his ribs, face burning slightly. He's being held almost like a child. Or rather, 'bridal style'... Not so different from the time at the... His face burns, and he can't find himself to look at Aizawa's face. He can't remember the last time he'd been held like this. Maybe when he was just a few years old, when his mother was still alive. All Might had always been too big, too bulky to do so. It usually took a three man job just to lift him. But now he was... just Toshinori.

Who was getting carried to bed by his boyfriend.

Something about that makes his chest tighten in both a horrible and wonderful way. His eyes burn, and knobby hands curl against the other mans chest. Toshinori smiles, but there is a faint wobble of his bottom lip as he holds himself back from letting any tears fall. He shouldn't be getting emotional over such a silly thing. So he dips his head in the crook of Aizawa's neck, the other man letting out a soft hum before walking in the direction of their bedroom. This wasn't how tonight was supposed to go... but he was grateful for it, regardless.

Aizawa takes such care of him. So gentle in the way he handles him, not like he's made of glass, but rather something precious. Something to be loved and cherished. He always feels wanted whenever Aizawa is with him. Oh so gently he's placed on the bed, a warm comforter pulled back before being set over him. The room is dark and Aizawa is like a living shadow, the only thing letting him stand out being the pink of his sweats. The bed dips with the weight of another body, and Toshinori lets out a soft sigh as Aizawa curls up against him. Even through darkness he can feel those onyx eyes lingering on his frame.

"I tried to wait for you," Toshinori whispers. An arm reaches out to pull their bodies flush together. "I'm sorry I fell asleep..."

“Don’t apologize. You should’ve been resting anyway.”

A bit of heat swells up in his cheeks as his eyes slip closed with a quiet sigh. Calloused fingers gently brush along his cheek, down across his jaw. It causes goosebumps to rise across his skin. “I was worried… I didn’t hear from you.”

“Well you don’t have to worry. I am–”

Shouta.

A cough is forced in a meek attempt to hide his chuckle. This man…

“Sleep,” Aizawa rumbles, his own arms slipping up to tighten around him. Though really he sounds as if he’s on the verge of drifting away himself… and without knowing the time, Toshinori could only guess how many hours they had left until the alarm went off and they would have to get ready for school.

Sighing, Toshinori slips down and nuzzles his head under the other man's chin; breathing in his spiced scent. This is where he wants to be. In the arms of the man that he loves.
