Their Universal Experience

Summary:

A crossover of Jack Kline and Peter Parker meeting and talking about parental figures.

Notes:

This is based off a texpost but is pretty different from the textpost. I debated if it should go in this series and well, it is me recycling it so here it is!

The textpost:
Peter: All my dads and father figures die.
Jack: Same, but they all come back to life.
Peter:
Peter: Who are you?
Jack: I'm Jack Winchester.
Peter: Peter Parker.
Peter: So did they all die from the snap? That's how I did.
Jack: No, mostly from monsters. Although Dean did die from a taco.
Peter: ...okay... wanna be friends?
Jack: Sure! Are those your pajamas sticking out of your backpack?
Peter: um, yessss.... pajamas, totally pajamas. Yep. Not a suit, just pajamas...

Work Text:

Two teens sat on top of a roof, feet dangling over, neither in danger due to the railing that allowed them to do so. Their arms poked through, looking at the busy city full of life all around them.

They had met an hour ago, and somehow it led them to the top of a building talking,

"...and well, all my father figures end up dying," Peter said. He couldn't tell you what made the conversation turn to this confession, it just did.

They've talked about a lot of random things, including the possibility of multiple universes and the science or magic that would have to be behind it to travel to a different universe.

Jack nodded, "So have mine." Death is very prevalent in Jack's life, "Except they have all come back to life." Resurrection is also very common, but it brings a lot of trouble with it.

"What's your name again?" Peter asked, they had very brief introductions earlier. They practically ran into each other, apologizing profusely before getting on more common ground.

"I'm Jack Kline," Jack smiled, he didn't have to worry about giving a fake name since he wasn't on a hunt, and because no Jack Kline's exist in this universe. Well, some people share the name, however, they weren't him.

Jack Kline, Peter echoed in his mind, "I'm Peter Parker." He wasn't sure if Jack remembered from earlier.

"So, did they die from the snap?" Peter asked, because if so, that's terrible luck. Incredibly possible, just awful luck. "Because I did, did you?" Maybe if Jack went with the Snap, it wouldn't have been so lonely but that must have been a pain with coming back, everyone moving on from an entire family. Getting everything back... Not a fun thing to do.

"No," Jack has heard a few things about a Snap by a purple alien but wasn't too clear on what any of that meant, "well, technically a snap did kill Castiel..." Something Jack had learned from Sam and Castiel randomly one day, "They just died from your usual monsters. Leviathans, hellhounds, angels. That sort of thing."

Jack thought about it a little bit more, "Or from a taco, if you're Dean." He looked at Peter's shocked face, "Don't worry, he's alive now."

Peter couldn't confidently say he didn't believe that. Too many strange things have happened to him that he believed in this stranger. "Oddly enough, that doesn't help, but hey, that's not the most insane thing I've heard." If aliens and Gods exist, surely some other beings like angels do too, right?

"You seem pretty nice, do you wanna be friends?" Peter asked. Something about Jack was very comforting, even if he seemed a bit strange.

"Thank you, I would!" Jack was delighted to hear someone not only call him nice but offer to be friends. "And quick question," he pointed to Peter's bag that had red and blue sticking out, "why do you carry pajamas on you?"

Jack is only used to doing that when he's on a hunt. Is it possible Peter is also a hunter? Are there hunters in this universe?

"Pajamas?" Peter looked at his bag and the realization made him nearly jump up, "Oh! Those, yeah, those pajamas." Peter would just have to lie, "I- I was planning on sleeping over at my friend's house. Ned. So, I have to be prepared." To be fair, he was planning on staying over, so it wasn't a total lie.

"I've never had a sleepover before." Not by choice, "I had to ask Sam what that was, and sleepovers sound nice." Sam and Castiel did make him a sleepover in their room, and as fun, as it was, he wanted to have one like in the movies.

Peter didn't know who Sam was but nodded, "They are, do you want to meet Ned?" Maybe if Sam was Jack's friend he could meet Sam one day.

"Can I?" Jack was very excited at the idea of making more friends. Especially if they're like Peter.

Peter could safely assume Ned wouldn't mind meeting someone new. He could text or call him to meet up somewhere. "Yeah, and maybe if you want you can sleep over. If Ned agrees and if it's okay with your parents if you still have them?" He heard the reviving part but also who knows, do you only get revived from tacos? "I'm kind of unclear on that front."

"Oh, my dads are still alive," Jack clarified, "my mom isn't." Most of the time Jack doesn't think about that, but there is always that void that can't be filled nor ignored. Meeting her was a dream come true, but it did make that void intenser on days when he wants nothing more than to hug his mom.

Peter saw Jack's face drop a bit, "Oh, I'm sorry. Um, mine isn't either." Jack gave him a sad smile, he didn't doubt that Peter knew what he was feeling.

"We have a lot in common." Jack voiced after a moment of silence. Unfortunately, the common denominator seemed to be death.

Peter agreed, "Yeah, we do. Not in the way I usually relate to others, but it's nice to have someone to relate to." He may not have dads like Jack, but from what he can see in Jack, loss isn't foreign with Jack. And it definitely isn't with Peter.

Little did either know their similarities went further in ways maybe they'd learn a different day. Such as being young and burdened with more responsibility than they should have had to carry due to powers. But still being incredibly grateful that they were able to be helpful instead of being helpless to their misfortunes.

Notes:

This was supposed to stay more playful but this felt more satisfying. This has inspired me to revisit some old crossover ideas I had for this specific pair. So I won't add to this story in specific but I may write this duo in the future.

I appreciate all comments, criticisms, and feedback I may receive. If there are any mistakes you catch that I have missed, feel free to point them out so I can fix them! Thank you so much for reading, I hope you are having a good day and that it's only getting better!
