The Power of Love

Summary:

Morgan gets hit by the power of love. Alex is slow on the uptake.

Notes:

I couldn't resist the title, I'm not even sorry.

Btw I’ve already started writing that sick fic in my head which is counterintuitive to the long WIP in my drafts, damn it!

Chapter 1: Fight or Flight

Chapter Text

“Oh, I know what your weakness is…” The A Tier said gleefully and leaned into their radio on their shoulder.
“Oh really, I’d love to see what plan you’ve come up with now.” Alex said levitating in the sky.
“Detain the D Tier, Romanizer get them if you can.” They ordered and dropped off the cliff their air supports letting them fly.
“Foul play.” Alex snapped smashing through the cliff and gripping their metal wing and crushing it.
“Your fights with me.” Alex warned and threw them screaming into the sea below. They’d survive if they were clever about it.

Looking around they took their phone out and speed dialled. Morgan picked up after a few rings.
“Uh’yello?” Morgan answered.
“Hey quick question, where are you right now and can you hide?” Alex said quickly.
“I’m kinda in the middle of the Braxton Heist, what’s wrong?” Morgan asked hearing the edge in Alex’s tone.
“Yeah, so Frisbee boy and his lot are coming heading your way. I’ll clear them out but like get in a box or something?” Alex finished lamely knowing one of them had infrared vision.
“A Tier’s? What did I do? What did you do?!” They accused rightfully and Alex could hear them packing up their stuff.
“I fucked up, just, wait for me and I’ll explain later!” Alex said because they needed time to come up with a lie.
“Agh, fine, but you owe me a heist!” Morgan said quickly running from wherever they were.
“Done!” Alex said and they both hung up.

Now that was taken care of, Alex could take care of the rest. One of the many good things about Morgan was that they were able to disappear pretty easily as they’ve had a lot of heroes after them. They like the chase of it all.

They didn’t have anything particularly against these A Tiers. It was flattering, really, to know they’d formed a band of merry people just to keep Alex in check. What would immediately cause them to need a new band is if anything happened to Morgan and they should know that.

It didn’t take them long to get to Braxton HQ. It was clever of Morgan that while the CEO was out saving the world from an S Tier that Morgan took the opportunity to slip in but it also meant that if the D Tier had tripped up anything the heroes would know exactly where they are and Alex wasn’t taking that risk.

With the way they were setting up guard stations around the building multiple heroes outside to defend it confirmed Alex’s fears.
“Putting your own people in danger Brax, I thought you knew better.” Morgan echoed across and stepped higher and higher into the air like walking up a staircase.
“You look rattled, S, is something you care about in there?” Brax shouted back mockingly.
“Do you really think this will end well for any of you?” Alex asked and just to emphasise their point the ground around the building cracked and started to pull away from the Earth leaving a moat between the building site and everything else. Screams could be heard as people moved to get out of the way so they didn’t fall into the depths.

Alex blinked slowly and on their exhale they listened out for everything.

They had to find Morgan now. They couldn’t let some hero take them. Their advantage is that they knew Morgan, they knew their breath and their heartbeat. They could pick them out from a line up blind.

Deep in the basement of the building they heard it, they were in an enclosed space, a lot electricity was built up in that area and it muffled their exact location, but it was enough. While they couldn’t just tear the building apart in case it crushed Morgan they’d be damned if they didn’t get there first.

Opening their eyes on the inhale they noted the several approaching steps to Morgan’s location which meant the heroes knew where they were as well. They couldn’t waste time.

Without knowing the layout, they opted to take Speedster’s approach and disappeared from their height reappearing through the suddenly smashed in doors of the entrance.

Today had been a good day, everything was going to plan, and Morgan had been quite happy to sneak under the radar of Alex’s fight and slip into Braxton HQ. They’d been trying to get the data download for their farmed NFT’s for months so they could redistribute them and make them worthless. Now was the perfect time to act.

Now they were trapped in the server room trying to find a service tunnel so they could get out of the building. They’d been walking through the way they came in, but the ground had suddenly caved in on them which they’re almost certain is Alex’s fault. With a long-suffering sigh, they were lying on the ground their arm bent at an awkward angle as they tried to unscrew a panel they have no idea how it was screwed into the wall being hidden behind and bolted down rack like it was.

The door to the room slammed open and Morgan froze. Either it’s Alex and all’s good or they’re about to die. It’s a 50/50 which wasn’t odds Morgan was going to bet on and so they slipped into the server rack pressed up against the rats nest of cables and hopefully out of view if they were just looking down the walkways.

Whoever was stalking down the halls did in fact just appear to be patrolling trying to find them so when they saw their opportunity they quietly untucked themselves and tried to as stealthily as possible make their way in the opposite direction to the exit.

They rounded the corner only to be face-to-face with El Gato who was essentially a werecat. This also meant the hero was 6ft6 and built like a brick shit house.
“Over here!” He called out in a growl and made to grab Morgan who noped the fuck out of that, dodging claws narrowly and managing to redirect them into a server giving them a chance to get away. Unfortunately, they could go back into the room.
“Fuck.” Morgan said and sprinted down the walkways trying to get away from grabbing paws deciding they might be able to give them the run around if they ran to the end and then back down the other aisle.

It wasn’t their best idea but what else were they supposed to do?!

They ran and pulled down some storage shelves to their left which set off a chain reaction slamming into the opposite server racks. They ducked as El Gato slammed into the fallen shelves and sent various spare kit flying. Luckily for Morgan though it slowed them down just enough so that they could bounce off the end wall and start back down the other server aisle.

Feeling pretty good about themselves they doubled their efforts and ran quickly towards freedom. It was pretty disheartening to be close-lined right at the end of the servers. It also didn’t help that El Gato seemed to forgo the obstacle entirely and climbed up on top of the servers pouncing on all fours down after them. The wind knocked out of them they slid a knife out from their sleeve and slashed out wildly and Romanizer jumped back as Morgan scrambled to their feet and backed away.

They looked around and before they could run down the final aisle El Gato got their first and slammed into the floor, prowling towards them. They were cornered.

“Oh shit…” Morgan said cornered by Romanizer, El Gato slowing down their approach seeing them cornered like a rat.
“It’s okay, lovely, we’re not going to hurt you. We just want to help.” Romanizer said like it was charming. Morgan rolled their eyes.
“I’m fine thank you.” They said dryly; if they were going to kill them they could be less patronising about it.
“We’re just going to take you away from them, somewhere safe. Where you can’t be found. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you safe.” Their voice echoed hypnotically as they moved their hands pink energy forming. Morgan blinked and shook their head trying to break from the effect.
