Unus and Annus reflect on their lives in their final moments

Notes:

Work Text:

"See you on the other side."
The two men spoke with absolute conviction, but deep down they didn't know what would be on the other side, if there was one at all. It's odd to think about, for the past year they had talked and joked about the inevitably of death, but now that it was upon them they couldn't help but wonder if they did everything they wanted to. Cooking, camping, purging sins, surviving bears, an abnormal amount of pee related stuff. Was this really what they were meant to achieve? Unus stared at the inevitably before him, full of sadness and small second guesses. He had regrets, and it was hard to come to terms with death. He didn't want to leave, this was the happiest and most accomplished he has ever felt.
"Do I really have to say goodbye?" Unus thought, not bothering to look up at his friend and barely noticing the hand around his own.
Annus looked proudly at the people who came to watch their final moments. Sure, there were some things he still wanted to do, but he knew that death was approaching and the best way to greet it was with open arms. With a confident smile he embraced death and hoped that he and Unus would meet again someday, maybe in another life or whatever was or wasn't on the other side of the silly thing we call death.
The clock struck zero, and then there was silence.
