crossing the world only to end up in the exact same place

Summary:

“Why are you here?” Izuku growled.

The man didn’t even look up, answering blithely, “what, I’m not even allowed in my own son’s apartment?”

“How did you get in? This is breaking and enter-”

“I opened the door. You should really learn to lock it, this isn’t the safest neighborhood.”

Izuku had locked it. He remembered, the bastard was just a fucking liar.

Work Text:

Izuku had done everything he could. He’d left Japan, his father’s main sphere of influence and fled to Guatemala, where nobody at all knew him. His father had no strongholds here. He’d forged documents that changed his identity, bought a plane ticket with them, forged more, and then bought a boat ticket, which he actually took. He paid a shapeshifter to temporarily take his appearance and DNA, and they took the plane for him.

The boat took him to the Philippines, where he switched identities and appearances again, drove down to the bottom tip, and took another boat to Indonesia. He never stayed in one place very long, and constantly changed his appearance. Legal documents? Who gave a fuck about legality?

He continued this fairly arduous process, faked his death a couple times (don’t ask) and finally ended up in Guatemala. Along the way he had taken account of his father’s various tracking quirks in an effort to throw him off. Scent? Izuku had at least thirty five perfume and cologne samples. A tracker that pinned him specifically as a target? Only worked within a certain distance, it was why he’d chosen Guatemala in the first place. Izuku had wiped out his paper trail, so that wasn’t an option either.

He’d even given in to superstition and religion, in which he hadn’t really involved himself much in the past. He’d bought several charms from a shrine, a rosary from a monastery, and a wooden stake. Y’know. Just in case. Nothing else seemed to work to keep his father dead, so maybe a wooden stake would be the surprise thing that finally got him in the coffin permanently!

Izuku had squinted doubtfully at the stake. It seemed almost piddly, really, when compared with his father’s towering presence. Even if it would kill him, it was doubtful he’d even get it close enough to reach that point.

He had settled into Guatemala, too. Picked a low-cost apartment in a neighborhood that was neither heavily crime-ridden or too safe. Either would’ve been too obvious. He did online school (using his own wifi, obviously, no way the landlord would ever provide it). He had even picked up a part time job tutoring some of the kids in the building. It didn’t pay much, but that was alright.

Even now he didn’t have his own appearance. He had added to his height using lifts in his shoes. His hair was dyed dark brown, the least noticeable color, and he had become significantly tanner because the nearest grocery store was like two miles away. His freckles had spread from just his cheeks to almost his entire face. His eyes were purple, and he regularly put on makeup to make his eyes smaller and his face look less round.

Today was grocery day, which, yes, he devoted a whole day to. He liked to have a little time, and it meant he could do his weekly, extra heavy workout right after and still have enough energy to be alive the next day. As he was sorting through vegetables and picking out the less ripe ones, he felt an ominous sting in his chest.

He quickly checked out and began to make his way home. His ominous gut feelings were usually right, which meant someone had probably broken into his apartment.

Izuku slammed the door open, then gaped wordlessly.

He had been right about someone breaking in. There stood his father, near the computer, wearing his suit that never seemed to not wear (bastard probably slept in it).

Why?!

Izuku did everything! Perfectly!

There should’ve been no way! His father! Could find him!!!

He was even flipping through Izuku’s homework for his online classes!!!

Izuku dropped the groceries to the ground and noted, somewhere in the back of his mind where there was calm, that there was absolutely no way his two packages of eggs had survived that.

“How did you even find me?! I planned for every single quirk you have, I didn’t leave a paper trail, I…” Izuku trailed off because his father was looking at him like he was a performing monkey, and not a very good one at that.

The man sighed, and everytime Izuku found himself amazed by how he could compact so much condescension into one sigh. Then, All for One pulled out his phone and opened an app that showed a blinking green dot.

“GPS, genius.”
