el mundo es mío

Summary:

"Why are you wearing socks and shorts?" It doesn't make any sense, are you cold or not?" Haibara said as Nanami laid beside him, also making himself comfortable under the sheets.

"The floor is cold, it's unpleasant." Nanami only replied, curling himself up and feeling Haibara narrow his eyes at him.

Work Text:

The bright white light of a phone screen flashed in the mild illuminated room, interrupting the quiet atmosphere.

?

Black eyes passed through the pixelated text. Quick fingers typed, the keyboard buttons making little clicking sounds.

:)

The screen didn't change for a few seconds, the answer arrived quickly

Ok

Haibara closed his phone and put it on the nightstand next to his double bed. A little screen with a dim light showed the time (10:57 PM) and then it turned off.

As he made himself comfortable on the bed and getting under the soft sheets, he heard dull steps making their way to his room. The door handle clicked open and Haibara observed as blonde hair peeked out.

Nanami stepped into the bedroom calmly, he had socks and his sleepwear on, black shorts and a gray t-shirt.

Haibara started to make space for Nanami to get in the bed as he jumped to get on the mattress.

"You are so whiny." Haibara scoffed, shaking his head in awe. Looking at the ceiling, he felt Nanami kick him lightly on the sheen.

"I have the right." Nanami replied, grabbing the sheets more to himself.

"That didn't hurt, you know." Haibara smacked him on the arm slightly harder than Nanami's kick.

"Ouch—" Nanami glared at Yu, blonde eyebrows furrowing. "What's wrong with you?" He smacked his friend on the shoulder in reply.

"You started." Haibara returned the hit, making Nanami slap him too.

The little fight started and ended at the first real 'ouch!' between them.

"Okay! Stop this." Haibara surrendered, throwing his hands up in sign of it.

"You are so whiny." Nanami mocked Haibara like he did before when Kento jumped to join him on the mattress.

Haibara felt Nanami's feet rub against his leg, the fabric of the socks feeling a bit rough.

The warm light of the lamp on the nightstand irradiated soft yellow-orange around them, making their faces visible and projecting some shadows against the wall and ceiling.

"Wanna sleep now?" Haibara moved and turned on his side, facing Nanami.

Nanami hummed, still deciding what he wanted to do, "Not really."

"Wanna read a book together or maybe listen to music on our iPod?" Haibara suggested it to his friend. He saw Nanami pout, considering the options.

"Not in the mood to get up from the bed." Nanami sighed, closing his eyes for a second.

Haibara hummed, thinking of something else to do with his lazy best friend. The idea came quickly and his face lit up, black doe eyes round. "Wanna gossip?"

Nanami opened his eyes instantaneously. Haibara knew his friend would never vocally say yes to that because he was a proud idiot, but this was the corporal equivalent to that.

"Turn off the light." Haibara whispered loudly, Nanami rolled his eyes but did what asked.

"So we are gonna gossip like two little schoolgirls?" Nanami scoffed and he settled again in his comfy position.

"Nanami, I don't think you understand, we actually are exactly that." Haibara smiled amused. "We are sixteen!"

"Okay okay, I get it."

"Just because you feel like an old soul doesn't mean you are one." Haibara felt Nanami's feet play against his legs again.

"You start first." Nanami decided to ignore Haibara's comment for the sake of the gossip session before one of them inevitably falls asleep.

"I heard Yaga-sensei say to someone he wanted to buy us pizza!" Haibara smiled as he remembered. "We are gonna have pizza friday next week!"

"Are you sure about it?" Nanami's caramel eye went a bit wide in surprise. "Yaga-sensei is going to buy us junk food?"

Haibara nodded his head positively, black hair messing up with the pillow. "Yup! We must have done something well."

"I have the feeling this is more Gojo related than us." Nanami put his hand on Haibara's head, trying to put the black strands in place again.

"Ooh Nanami, maybe you are right." Haibara cooed at him, poking him with a finger on his ribs.

Nanami flinched at the tickling sensation, trying to suppress the smile that wanted to pose on his lips.

"I know you think about Gojo-senpai all the time so I'm gonna spare you this time to not talk about him." Haibara showed him a playful smirk. "The reason for pizza friday remains a mystery." He whispered dramatically the last word, the emphasis clear.

"I don't talk about Gojo-senpai all the time." Nanami complained.

"So you think about him all the time." Haibara scrunched up his nose at the same time he smiled.

"No, I don't." Nanami denied it again, even though it was really a big lie to himself.

"Denial, denial ." Haibara sing-sang softly, pushing Nanami's feet away from his legs as a form of game. "Okay, so while you are there, lying to yourself, I should tell you Geto-senpai invited me from his lunch today in our free period."

Nanami watched as Haibara's eyes sparkled with something very recognizable as a crush. He rolled his eyes softly, Haibara was always so sincere with everything.

"Oh, yeah? What?" Nanami asked, because he was genuinely curious.

"He bought me a soda and then fed me onigiri." He put his hands together and posed them on his own cheek in a dreamy gesture.

"Ugh , disgusting." Nanami faked gagging and Haibara laughed. "He fed you? Like a baby?"

"Listen, he was very sweet. I can't help this." Yu replied, not even trying to make himself bothered about how much of an idiot with a crush he must look like. "Do you think I have a chance with him?"

"With Geto-senpai?"

Haibara nodded.

"Yeah, why not. You look like his type, he has this weird look when you are in front of him." Nanami felt Yu's fingers poke his scalp gently, trying to mess up his blonde hair.  "I think you already won him, you are taking too long to kiss him."

Haibara blushed and closed his eyes, Nanami couldn't see the red spread over his best friend's cheeks but the gestures were telling enough.

After moments of silence, Haibara put himself together and moved, he laid on his back.

Nanami turned to lay on his stomach, cheek resting on the pillow. He suddenly felt weight crushing him.

"Yu, get off me." He said with a half-strangled voice. "You are going to break my back."

Haibara only laughed and made himself comfortable on top of Nanami, face still facing the ceiling. "That's not true."

"You are heavier than me." Kento wheezed, he was actually being dramatic about it, Yu was not really crushing him but he was not completely lying either, Haibara was a heavy dude.

Yu ignored him. "You are comfy. Now, tell me about what Gojo told you today."

"Weren't you going to spare me this time to not talk about him?" Nanami repeated what Haibara told him minutes ago.

"Changed my mind, I've been wondering since the moment Geto and I saw you two from far away after class." He patted Nanami's side, hurrying him to speak.

"At this point just kiss Geto already, man." Nanami replied, playing hard to answer.

"Not the point here." Haibara said, rolling his eyes.

"Go get a boyfriend."

"At this point, between the two, I might actually be the first to actually get one."

“I should have stayed in my room.” Nanami sighed.

“I’m gonna hug you.” Haibara announced as he got off Nanami, he heard him grumble in obvious annoyance.

The thing with Haibara is that Nanami didn’t truly find himself bothered with the things he did, even if he acted like it; Haibara was naturally like that, he was clingy and a ray of sunshine that managed to make Kento talk about his feelings. It was not the same as Gojo, which actually made Nanami annoyed with his witty comments and bratty behaviors.

And it annoyed Nanami even more because he found Gojo and his bullshit attractive in a bizarre way.

He felt Yu wrap his arms around him, “Hug me back.”

Nanami rolled his eyes and moved to wrap Haibara in his arms too. He felt a hand patting his head in support. Haibara knew Nanami was a bit crazy over Gojo (in the good way or bad way, he was, in the end), it just happens that Kento hid it better than the Strongest sorcerer.

Now, in the darkness of the room, two best friends hugged each other.

"He was just messing around, as always." Nanami sighed. "He's insufferable."

"Yeah, I know. I've got you, man." Haibara said, mocking half-heartedly. He felt Nanami chuckle under his hold.

"I don't like him." Kento assured, obviously lying to himself.

"Sure you don't." Yu replied, allowing his friend to play dumb.

Haibara noticed this, the weird thing between those two. Gojo and Nanami were not really friends, they were a strange combination of messy not-exactly-strangers that if you looked from afar, you could mistake as friends.

Both of them were constantly rotating around the other in some way, the awkward unspoken obsession they share. The chase after they settled without even knowing when it started.

Haibara wanted to scream sometimes at the lack of emotional intelligence of those two.

The only thing he could do was push Nanami to accept his feelings with little comments here and then, but from there? It all came to his friend.

"He said he wanted to meet me tomorrow at the library." Nanami gave in, starting to tell Yu what he asked.

"Oooh, interesting. For what?" Haibara's big eyes looked down to stare at Nanami's brown eyes.

"He told me he wanted to show me something cool." Nanami blinked, staring back at Haibara.

"And?"

"I don't trust him."

Haibara knitted his brows and scoffed. "Whyy?"

Nanami moved under Haibara's hold, letting him free for his hug. "Yu, I swear if he gives me another note with only a drawn penis as content, I'm gonna use ratio on him."

"But you will go to meet him either way." Yu moved too, breaking the half-hug.

Both were on their backs, watching the ceiling of Haibara's room.

"Planning on standing him up, actually." Nanami replied.

Haibara laughed amused. He didn't say anything more about it, he knew Nanami didn't have the heart to stand someone up, even (less?) Gojo Satoru.

"Hey, how's Ratio progress going? I see you are getting stronger with it." Haibara turned his head to look at Nanami's profile.

"More or less." Nanami answered with his characteristic genuine modesty. "I'm starting to split little parts of a whole, it's so tiring."

"How's that?" He asked for an explanation of his friend's new achievement.

"See your door?" Nanami saw Haibara nod. "Well, now I can break the handle without breaking the door."

Haibara sat up excitedly at the news. He stared at Nanami happily. "Nanami! That is incredible news!"

Nanami hummed. "I guess you're right, but it's so hard sometimes. I get mad everytime I can't do it right."

"But it's progress!" Haibara grabbed Nanami by the shoulders and shook him up in joy.

The blonde sorcerer couldn't help the smile on his lips. "Too much work."

"Blablabla, shut up." Haibara nudged him on the arm. "Let's go for treats on Saturday!"

"Okay." Nanami accepted. "How's yours going?"

Yu groaned in exasperation with the reminding of his own technique. "Progressing but I'm suffering! I still can't spot the cursed energy path of curses as much as I want. Good thing I always have you by my side everywhere."

"I've told you I can help you train with that." Nanami gave his friend a serious stare.

"I know but don't worry, Shoko-senpai and Geto are already helping me with it." Yu sighed at the thought of those hard training sessions. "Shoko-senpai is such a merciless tutor."

"She means good." Nanami patted Haibara's arm. "You can trust her, besides, you have Geto there to wipe your tears." He joked and Yu closed his eyes a bit in embarrassment.

"Originally I wanted Gojo-senpai to help me with it but apparently he doesn't have time for anyone except you."

"Don't speak nonsense." Caramel eyes rolled in annoyance.

"I'm serious!" He laughed as he watched Nanami roll on his side and curl up.

"Let's sleep now." Nanami grumpily dismissed the conversation.

Haibara didn't say anything else and also laid beside Nanami again, curling up comfortably too.

Several minutes in silence passed in the dark when Yu spoke again.

"Kento?" He tried to call his friend, hoping he wasn't asleep yet.

Nanami hummed in adknowledge.

"Do you think I can make Yaga-sensei give me one of his cute plushies?"

Nanami's closed eyes opened heavily. "Why do you want one of those? They are kinda ugly." He stared at the dark space in front of him.

"That's not true, they are cute." Yu frowned in disagreement.

"No, it happens that you find ugly things like that cute." Nanami closed his eyes again, feeling them surrender.

"They actually kinda remind me of you." Haibara commented in considerate recognition. "They have your little frown and all that."

Nanami opened his eyes and his face turned into a questioning grimace, in disbelief of his friend's words. "I don't look like—" A beat, it made no sense. "You know what? Nevermind, let's sleep."

"But do you think I could get one?"

"Ask Yaga-sensei one as your birthday present. He won't say no to that." Nanami had his eyes closed again, feeling the sleep come to him.

"Yup."

Haibara threw a leg on Nanami like an octopus, he must sleep too for tomorrow's activities. Nanami didn't mind the physical contact with Haibara, it was his way of showing affection.

"Goodnight, man. Love you." And he closed his eyes.

"Yeah yeah, me too. Goodnight." Nanami replied more asleep than awake, but meaning it all the same.

Both of them fell asleep in the darkness of the room slightly illuminated by the moonlight slipping through the window.
