Chapter Text

The beads of sweat fell unnoticed on the side of his face as he watched her look around.

She had a bruise on her cheek, a cut on the side of her lower lip, yet her eyes remained wild.

She was vibrant in all its sense; the heat of the room added to his rapid heartbeat, the hues of orange, white, and amber light just made her glow.

He wished he was seeing her like this in a different situation, though. Not like this, where they’re trapped in the Room of Requirement, using someone else’s wand that was not pliant enough for them to protect themselves.

The screams of other Death Eaters have faded and they both knew they merely have seconds. He looked at her and faced her to him. He was not afraid. But he still had to make sure she was safe. Her eyes were glassy as her brown eyes met his.

He hoped despite its icy look, it conveyed the warmth of his emotions. “I love-“ he stopped when she shook her head no.

“I know.” She instead said. Taking a deep breath as the blazing fire approached nearer, she asked, “Lie to me.”

Without missing a beat and without the intention to lie, the words his lips let out were a promise. A promise that will hopefully be fulfilled in another lifetime. It was the truth, that under the current circumstance seemed like a lie. “We’ll be alright,” He held her hands.

And as the Fiendfyre trapped and engulfed them, one thing was for sure; Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger went down fighting till the end until they can do no longer but smile and share a kiss.

Lips to lips and fingers intertwined.

What a day to burn.
