Chapter Text
Kiara ran into her room, gripping her face as she sobbed. Her knees gave out and she curled up on the floor. The carpeted floor lightly scraped her skin as she toppled over.

Kiara woke up abruptly. The memories of her now fossilized sadness hit her like a load of bricks. She picked up her phone and checked the time. Two minutes before her alarm went off. She sighed and got up to get ready for work whilst canceling her alarm.
After she got ready, she looked at the time. Realizing that she had enough time she went for a morning jog.
On the way back she tripped, cutting her knee on the concrete. She rolled her body up, too numb to feel the pain. She hobbled back to her house, ignoring the gash on her knee.
☼
Fireworks went off at the neighbors house, the loud crackle and pop drawing Kiara’s attention, her head swiveling to look towards the balcony window. She opened the sliding door and walked out onto the balcony. She looked up at the array of colours streaking through the night sky. She walked over to the railing and sat on it, her legs dangling over the edge.
Her mascara mixed tears slid down her face, occasionally dipping into the corners of her mouth. The warm summer air thawed her cold, numb heart, bringing back memories to the lover she once had. She remembered the now faceless person stuck in the torn webs of her mind. Her mind drifted back to last year, back to the time when someone sat with her on the metal rails.
Kiara closed her eyes.
