all the lonely nights in your life

Summary:

a song i heavily associate with this story is “all the lonely nights in your life” -american pleasure club, teen suicide

a story in which two realize they may need each other more than they think

or,

a pair of kids who take life for granted

Notes:

fuck. rayne stumbles over the trash and grime littering their floor. they head straight to bed and continue drinking bottles of whatever liquor they have in store.

róse. this was his favorite.

after a long pause, rayne smashes the bottle on the floor and grabs their face as it contorts into a painting of pure grief. they fall to the floor and cry, and cry, and cry. (foreshadowing? :o)

Chapter 1: backstory (p1)

Chapter Text

a long sigh comes from inside a classroom, brightly colored walls adorned with childish decor. the 30 or so seats are all empty, all except one.

“you’d never think that a middle school classroom could look so similar to a kindergarten, but here we are.” rayne murmurs, sitting alone with a medium- sized book. they’re a sarcastic and cold kid, resulting in not a single friend. not even the friendliest kids in the school want to talk with them, probably scared that they’ll be bit by the dark haired, fair-skinned child.

“y’kno, archie was right…at this angle you kinda look like a vampire!” someone across the room giggles, making rayne jump and drop their book on the floor.

“the fuck?” rayne looks around, trying to catch their breath after the scare. only after the figure walks over to grab the face down book do they see exactly who the voice belongs to.

ugh. jamie. he’s the loudest and most obnoxious kid ever to rayne. well, pretty much everyone is but this one is especially bad. he answers every question, laughs at every joke, and is talking almost every second of the day.

the one thing they have in common? both of them really hate school. like, burning passion hate school.

“sorry, i scare people like that sometimes.” jamie awkwardly laughs and rubs the back of his neck nervously, handing the sprawled out book back to its owner.

“no shit sherlock, now these pages are wrinkled. plus, you just called me a vampire, shouldn’t you be scared of me?” rayne spits, ignoring the commonly repeated ‘be nice reina, people don’t like rude little girls!’ lesson. thanks assholes, now i can’t even remember life lessons without getting misgendered.

“hey, don’t shoot the messenger! i just told you, archie said it first!” jamie smiles, the complete opposite of the sarcastic tone he is currently using.

“uh-huh. and you came down here to repeat it to my face. so kind and gracious, my hero.” rayne glowers. nobody really talks to them for this long, with the whole rude and scary act.

jamie dramatically gasps and covers his mouth with one hand. “you think i’m… a hero?? that’s so…nice…” jamie fakes a long and ecstatic sigh, wiping an invisible tear from his face.

“alright, just tell me what you want, pretty boy.” jamie sighs, tired of poking fun back and forth with the taller.

“what do i want? hm…i didn’t really think about that.” a friend. jamie thinks, even though he’s got loads and loads of ‘friends’. they never really talk to him though, most of them just use him to get in contact with someone. he’s quite literally a messenger, delivering messages back and forth to people who aren’t directly talking or are too shy to face someone they like.

“are you okay? you look super sad,” rayne murmurs the last bit, eyebrows creasing in a very small show of worry. “not that i care or anything.” they quickly follow up with, erasing the emotion from their face, still a bit worried though.

“yeah, i just…didn’t really expect that? usually i’m running around doing shit for other people, so i don’t really get a chance to think.” jamie explains, still deep in thought. rayne examines his features while he’s distracted, trying to catch on to what jamie is thinking.

after a few minutes of silence, rayne gets up and walks over to jamie, sitting next to him. they just sit with each other for a while, still thinking, but this time it’s together. just as they’re getting all mushy and bonding,

RIIIIIIIIIIIING!

“oof, i really just skipped lunch. now i’m hungry, AND someone is probably gonna be mad i couldn’t ‘save their friendships’.” jamie huffs, getting up but not making it very far before a fair skinned hand grabs his.

“wait. do you wanna go get lunch? unless you’re too cool to skip.” rayne smirks, knowing exactly what they’re doing.

jamie gasps. “mind games, mind games i tell you!” he booms with a kingly accent, before they both collapse into laughter. “yeah, i think we need to go.” jamie punctuates his sentence with a giggle, tugging on rayne’s hand to pull them off the desk.

“glad you agree, pretty boy.” rayne chuckles, relishing in the quick growing red across jamie’s face. damn, he’s never been called pretty before?

“wh- i am not pretty! i am a very handsome and manly man!” jamie whines, definitely not sounding like a manly man. it didn’t matter though, he really liked the compliment.

“mhm. let’s go, you can whine on the way to Gelson’s.” rayne eyerolls, a fond smile showing under his sarcastic expression. why am i doing this? i just met him, am i seriously risking getting caught out of school to feed this baby? rayne thinks, turning to the window and gesturing for jamie to follow.

yeah, yeah i am.
