Work Text:

“Alright, Mijin, if you do not wake up right now. 10 points from Slytherin”

WHACK

“What the fuck, who just hit me with their book?!” The professor sneered, “Another 10 points from Slytherin.”

Mijin rubbed her shoulder and slowly regained her focus. She turned her head slightly to the right to meet Hari’s glaring eyes. Jang Hari, her hot childhood neighbour who is also her arch-nemesis.

When Mijin was four, she had heard from her parents that they would finally be getting new neighbours. What she didn’t hear was that they had a daughter that was the same age as her, and was born to crush Mijin’s pride.

When Mijin was seven, she and Hari were enrolled in archery classes. Mijin will never forget how she went home with a score of 3 points and learned that if you get a point if your arrow lands on the white part, you get a pity point of 1. While Hari walked out with an offer for their youth team.

When Mijin was fifteen, Hari easily became Slytherin’s prefect along with Lomon. Her entire life was her being compared with the daughter next door. Mijin’s jealousy often resulted in her being overly rude to the taller girl, except the time when Mijin gave Jaden (Hari’s ex-boyfriend) a bloody nose when she saw him with another girl.

Mijin wasn’t horrible at everything she did, Hari was just far better than the average person. Though, the one thing Mijin excelled at was Flying. She was notorious for flying on school grounds (indoors too) without permission and being the captain of Slytherin’s Quidditch team.

Maybe that’s why she hadn’t gotten her broom confiscated yet because she did demolish the fucking annoying americanOs that went to Ilvermorny in her 5th year.

Hari whispered, “Mijin, get it together or else I’ll tell your parents that you smoke.” as her hand inched closer to the book again.

Mijin raised her hands up in protest because she didn’t even smoke. However, then she made eye contact with the professor and slouched back into her seat.

As she stared into the blackboard, a smirk began to form on her face as she thought of a devious yet stupid plan that would turn Hari’s world upside down. Or upside right, left, up. She swore.

As the sun began to set, Mijin decided she was not in the right headspace to complete her homework. As she sprawled on her bed, her favourite roommate walked in, Hari. She sat back up and slowly tapped her feet against the bed frame.

Hari did not even bother to greet her, yet acknowledge her presence.

“Hey captain centaur girl, do you not know how to say hi?”

Hari glared at her and said nothing in response.

Mijin suddenly cleared her throat and quietly whispered, “I’m sorry for earlier today. Good luck or whatever with your upcoming national archery team tryouts. I hope you don’t smack your face with your stupid bow of yours.”

To be honest, Mijin wasn’t really sorry for being the reason Slytherin lost 20 points. Nor was she sorry for sticking a funny post it on Hari’s back that said, “I love Mijin, she is the hottest person in the universe!”, which stayed on till everyone started bothering her about it at Lunch.

Instead, Mijin had the time of her life seeing the look Hari had on her face and holding the back urge to cuss everyone out.

Hari hummed and walked out with her bow sling on her shoulder.

“Damn it, why is she so fucking cool” Mijin flopped back onto her bed.

WOOSH

The sound Hari’s arrow makes as it lands on an 8 on the magical moving target. She had never been this nervous before.

“I know you are nervous, but you’re going to have to practice a lot more if you want to play archery while shitting your pants.”

Hari nervously nodded at her and pulled back the bowstring of her signature (also her most prized possession) forest green and silver bow.

Her coach, Professor Tiffany patted her on the shoulder and assured her that she would make the national magical archery team.

Hari wasn’t so sure, she was playing the worst she ever had. She took notice of the slight breeze that swept over their playing grounds before letting go. It landed on a 7.

She walked back to the changing room and sighed as she washed her face with the chilling water. She sat down to change her shoes and remembered the joy on Mijin’s face when she played as the chaser on the Quidditch team.

Why didn’t she feel the same way while she practiced today?

Hari pulled on her backpack straps as she walked out of the practice arena, and mumbled, “Goodbye Coach Tiffany and Professor Taeyeon”.

Instead of going to the Slytherin common rooms to finish her homework, she decided to visit the astronomy tower.

She and Mijin did have trouble getting along sometimes, but they loved seeing the starry sky together on her roof in the summer when they were younger.

She walked into the open space on top of the tower that overlooked the rest of Hogwarts and the forbidden forest. Hari took a deep breath of the crisp spring air as the breeze helped her feel less anxious.

The chair creaked a little as she pulled it away from the table to place her backpack, and take out her favourite green binder. Sometimes, she wonders if the sorting hat placed her in Slytherin because she likes the colour green so much.

Ignoring the fact she had relentlessly asked the sorting hat to put her in the same house as Mijin because she was scared to be separated.

She could never get tired of Mijin’s never-ending banter and her overuse of swear words. Hari would do anything to protect Mijin and her happiness. Mijin reminded her of home, something she misses dearly.

As she tied up her hair and sat down to do her work, she heard something. She felt uneasy.

“WEEEEEEE”

“I am so glad I decided to ditch my stupid homework and ride this sexy beast!”

Mijin smiled widely as she rode her Firebolt towards the Astronomy tower. She felt her worries, not that she really had any, drift away with the spring breeze.

She couldn’t help but think how Hari has been so calm and quiet recently. Not that should bother her anyway.

As Mijin approached the astronomy tower, she noticed a figure sitting at one of the tables.

“Shit, what fucking bitch took my spot?!”

Her eyes were wide open once she realized it was Jang Hari.

“HARI!! IS THAT YOU?” She slows down and lands perfectly through the open walls of the astronomy tower.

“It is you, you bitch! How was practice, ms centaur?”

Hari gave her a slight smile and replied, “fine”. Mijin shrugged her shoulders and took the seat in front of her.

Mijin just stared at Hari as she completed her homework.

“Shit, she’s so my type”, Mijin mouthed. Hari looked up and met her look. She raised her eyebrow, and asked, “Did you do your work? You know, you are the only reason we keep on losing house points?”

“Why do you only talk a lot when you’re scolding me?”

“Why are you answering my question with a question?”

“You just did that too.” Hari brought her lips together and nodded, “Right, sorry I forgot I’m talking with the CEO of Argument club.” They both chuckled, the night was too pretty for a petty fight.

“Do you want to go for a ride?”

Hari looked into Mijin’s eyes. They were so pretty and shone brightly as the stars in the sky. Hari looked at Mijin’s cute little nose. She held every urge she had to poke it, but she ended up giving it a little boop.

Mijin’s eyes widened but laughed along with Hari.

Then, she got up and summoned her Firebolt. Mijin left the tower at a sudden speed, causing Hari to squeal and grab Mijin tightly. Mijin chuckled and said, “Sorry, I’ll try to go slower but make sure you look down in a minute. Well, specifically at the forbidden forest.”

Hari tightened her hold.

When Mijin was seventeen, she liked someone.

Mijin slowed down as they approached the start of the forbidden forest. She knew better than going too deep or close to the forest.

Any hatred or jealousy Mijin had for Hari was gone when she turned around and met her eyes. Mijin quietly said, “Hold my hand and slowly look down. Don’t be too scared!”

Hari nodded and held Mijin’s hand. Her face turned a shade of deep red but hoped that the dim lighting would make it less visible.

She slowly looked down to see the forbidden forest filled with light with lightning bugs and other magical creatures that made the place look alive.

“Isn’t it so beautiful?”

Hari looked back up to see Mijin’s dopey smile and shining dark eyes.

“Yes, but I think you are more beautiful.”

“Sorry?”

“I mean the MOON is beautiful!”

Mijin smirked and began to turn back to the astronomy tower to pick up Hari’s bag.

As they walked back to their dorms (holding hands, something about how Mijin is clumsy on land, and she’s born for the air), Mijin decided to snuggle into Hari’s bed, with another stupid excuse.

“Are you scared for the archery national team tryouts next month?”

Hari hummed and sarcastically responded, “No, why would I be scared?”

Mijin clung to her arm and replied, “It’s okay, just remember that if you don’t make it. I will take your spot! Be scared!”

“Yeah, and you aren’t even half the size of the magical boards. You cannot even aim!”

Mijin turned and slightly raised herself to be over Hari. She smirked at her and came up with the best pickup line ever. “That’s because my aim is your heart.”

Hari scrunched her eyebrows and before she could question Mijin’s choice of wordings… Mijin leaned to her ear and quietly whispered, “Can I kiss you?”

Hari hummed.

The month went by pretty quickly. Hari could barely meet her girlfriend outside of classes or in their dorm room. Mijin understood, and would magically appear during Hari’s breaks with her favourite snacks.

It was a couple of days before her tryouts.

Hari had been granted today's practice off as her performance had been stellar thus far. They were sitting at their favourite spot, the table on the top level of the astronomy tower.

“So today, I literally saw Coach Tiffany and Professor Taeyeon holding hands! I swear I even saw a faint lipstick mark on the coach's cheek! They’ve got to be dating… What do you think? Also, today at Lunch while you had to write your catch-up test, Lomon announced that he was dating the Ravenclaw Prefect girl. I forgot her name, but they look so good together! Right, your tryouts are soon, can I come? Are you ready?”

Hari just nodded and ate some of her favourite zesty vegetable chips that Mijin had brought her. “I think I’m ready.”

Mijin smiled and replied, “Yes! Awesome, I’ll be there and finally put my loud voice to good use. You are going to SLAYYY!!!”

“Yeah of course. I always imagine your heart as my target, and never miss!” Mijin turned red. “Shut the fuck up, I wasn’t thinking straight.”

“Clearly, you cannot think straight.”

The birds were chirping and the morning dew had settled on the deep green grass. Hari admired the tryout arena; she would have to be back here as a national team member in a year.

She stood with her coach, team and Mijin who miraculously convinced Coach Tiffany to let her join the trip as her assistant.

Mijin walked over to her and gave her a tight hug.

Hari returned the hug and pulled out a sharpie pen, “Hi, I am a huge fan of yours and think you are the sexiest Quidditch player to ever exist. Do you mind signing my bow?”

Hari’s team members frowned in disgust. Since when did their captain act like this. Mijin smirked and loved how Hari slowly started saying the stupidest shit.

“Yes of course.” Mijin drew a little “I love you” with a cute little heart on Hari’s favourite green bow.

Mijin looked up and said, “In fact, I am a huge fan of yours too! Do you mind signing my face with those pretty lips of yours?”

If there is another thing Mijin is better than Hari, it would be being the cringiest person in the room. Hari gave a quick little kiss on Mijin’s cheek and then started preparing for the competition.

The winner and the runner-up of the competition would get a guaranteed spot on the national archery team, while the top 10 would advance to the next round. Hari was determined to place at least in the top 2 today.

It was nearing afternoon, and the semi-finals had just begun. Hari was competing against a spectacular player from another Wizarding school. John was in his seventh year, and it was his second time trying out for the team.

ALL PLAYERS PARTICIPATING IN THE SEMI-FINALS, PLEASE GET READY TO BEGIN IN 2 MINUTES.

Hari took a deep breath and looked for Mijin on the bleachers. She made eye contact and gave her a nervous smile. Mijin suddenly started looking for a piece of paper and stole a sheet from Coach Tiffany’s clipboard.

She rolled it up into a makeshift megaphone, and yelled, “JANG HARI! I LOVE YOU! IF YOU ARE HAPPY, THEN I AM HAPPY! GOOD LUCK!”

Hari laughed, not the reference to the iconic Joy stan. She was glad that she had converted Mijin to a K-Pop stan from whatever trash she listened to before.

The horn blew, and John pulled back his bowstring. It landed on a 10.

Hari aimed for a 10 but landed on a 9. John got another 10.

Hari started panicking slightly. If she got a 9 again, the probability of her winning would significantly decrease. She got a 9 again.

The entire arena went silent. John got a 7. Now the score was J 27 - 18 H. Hari would have to get a 10, or it would be a tie.

Hari’s alarms went off. She told herself, it’s fine. She is in the top 10, she will have another chance. Also, she has another year.

She took a glance at her favourite green bow and saw the little heart on the bow. Hari was reminded that she would still be loved no matter what the result would be.

Hari pulled back her drawstring, and once she let go, the rest was history! She placed first in the tournament and will be joining the national team once she graduates!

Mijin went running towards and engulfed the taller into the largest hug she could give. She peppered kisses over her face and said, “I KNEW IT, YOU NEVER TAKE ANY Ls!”

Every wizard around them looked at them as they all wondered what “not taking Ls means”. L for Lesbian?

Hari kissed Mijin, and said, “Thank you for cheering me. I love you.”

Mijin giggled and replied, “Yes bitch, we are soulmates. I fucking love you too!”

Seven months later, both of them were in their seventh year.

Mijin got scouted for the national Quidditch team during the fall. Hari was so happy for her, that she decided to wear Mijin’s Quidditch sweater all day.

It was now Christmas time, and both of the neighbours had returned to their houses for winter break. Their parents were extremely happy that they had finally figured it out.

At first, Hari’s younger brother was slightly upset, as he had believed that he had lost his buddy to make fun of Hari with. However, Mijin assured him that nothing had changed, when Mijin

“accidentally” baked cookies with salt instead of sugar.

Right now, both their families are sitting in Mijin’s family room. They were all playing an intense game of Sequence, a classic card-based board game.

Mijin and Hari were on separate teams but sitting next to each other. Both of them were desperate to win, as always.

Mijin proudly cheered, “I have a Jack of hearts. That's four in a row!” She got up and started dancing to the song with Hari’s mom, and her mom that was playing in the background.

Hari had intentionally pretended not to notice the sequence occurring and laughed at the scene happening now. This is all she ever wanted in life.

After the games were done, Mijin and Hari made an attempt to make hot chocolate from the candy they had gotten from the Weasely’s store.

“I think this is probably the worst idea you've ever had, Hari. This looks TOXIC!”

Hari replied, “Hey, that’s mean! Let’s go outside and drink our wonderful hot chocolate.”

One sip in, and they had both decided that they didn’t need a second sip. They put their cups on the swing in Mijin’s backyard and made snow angels in the snow.

Mijin rolled over to Hari and said, “I love you!” “I love you too” “I - OUCH”

Hari’s younger brother yelled, “SNOWBALL FIGHT!!”

As the three of them threw tons of snow and sometimes, snowballs at each other. The sun began to set and Hari somehow won the snowball fight even though it was 2 vs 1.

Mijin no longer cared about who was better at what because...

When she turned eighteen, she fell in love with Jang Hari.
