First Date

Summary:

A sweet summary about your first date with Ted.

Work Text:

You’re not sure if you regret telling Ted that you have a bucket list of cheesy rom-com moments that you wanted to experience before you died. This is mostly because you now found yourself on a rowing boat screeching in joyful fear from Ted splashing you with one of the oars. You wanted it to be like Bridget Jones where Daniel takes Bridget rowing and recites poetry to her and you know that is what Ted aimed for but at the minute it’s more like a life boat from the titanic.

Ted, being the gentleman that he is, had packed a picnic of all your favourite snacks and drinks along with a blanket for you to sit on in the boat so that its a bit softer underneath you but, due to the sneak-splash attack from Ted, it turned from a defence to a towel to just a soggy piece of material. Thank goodness for the beautiful spring sun that helped to dry it out a bit so you could sit on it once you were finished

After a while Ted asked if you wanted to try rowing and if you couldn’t do it, he would teach you, you knew it was just an excuse to be as close to you as he could but you weren’t going to complain, you liked the comfort you felt from him being near you and the safeness you felt from him. This was not the best idea that either you have had because swapping seats in the middle of a river was a very wobbly task, Ted is a sporty man he knows how to manoeuvre himself in agile situations compared to you he was a swan and you were the penguin at the back of the pact that slips on nothing. Ted can’t help but chuckle as he watched you keep yourself as level as possible taking small crouching steps over to where he was sat so that there was no risk of you falling in, it took a lot more effort compared to his stretch his legs out twist and sit. At that moment you cursed his long strong legs, you should have said that you needed help with the rowing so that you could sit between them but it’s too late now, you’d just have to wait until you get on dry land to try get close to him again.

Surprising both you and Ted, you managed to get the boat back in the dock before your time was up and you found a quiet spot near a tree to have your picnic. The blanket had dried out enough now for you to both sit on it and luckily the food had been in a waterproof bag so you weren’t dealing with soggy sandwiches, although the cheese sandwiches that were pack could have done with something to give them a bit more moisture. Sandwich making is not your forte, Ted and Beard are the only people you know who have mastered a good cheese sandwich. Everyone knows that Ted can talk for the world and listening to him just talk about the first thing that comes into his mind is just wonderful and you could listen to it all day, which is exactly what you did all afternoon until the sun started to set and night start to creep in with the cold leading Ted to giving you his jumper to wrap around your shoulders on the walk home. On your walk home you found yourselves taking a longer route just so you could spend more time just talking with each other until you realised the time and finally diverted to your door so Ted could get some rest and you could think about today over and over until you fell asleep.
