Chapter Text
When you turn 16, the first words your soulmate will say to you will appear on your wrist .
Minho heard this during all of his childhood.
He asked his parents tons of times to tell him their story. How they met, how they felt when they realised they were each other's soulmates. Minho read countless books and different stories about it.
He found it endearing. There was no other way to describe it. He found endearing the concept of having someone who is like a best friend but more. Someone who just gets you. Someone who accepts you for who you are and loves you unconditionally.
Minho is sixteen and an emotional rollercoaster when the moment he read so much about, heard so much about, imagined so much about finally comes.
He stays awake purposely until midnight of his birthday, clumsily turning on the lamp of his bedside table, and carefully grabs his right wrist with his other hand, thumb running over the skin there gently.
He whispers small words of encouragement to no one specifically. Eyes almost piercing the soft skin.
Please, please show up, please…
His pleads must have been heard because not even ten seconds later, letters start to appear.
The boy gasps at the sight, hissing internally at the slightly burning sensation he just got. But he doesn't care.
A smile makes its way to his face. A surprised chuckle leaves his lips, and soon enough, he's reading the first words his soulmate will say to him. The words that will change his entire life.
Well, more accurately, the word that will change his entire life.
Blue
“Blue,” He reads outloud. Voice soft and barely audible.”Blue,” He repeats once again, head tilting to the side in confusion.
Minho scoffs, disbelief visible on his face.
What kind of person would say blue to someone they have never met before? In what context could Minho say to his soulmate, someone who´s a complete stranger to him, something that would make him respond with the word blue ?
Minho is sixteen when he realises that, maybe, he will never meet his soulmate.
“Sunshine, you know I love you very much,” Minho rolls his eyes. He can't believe they're still arguing over this. “But I love cheesecake just as much.” His friend ends up saying.
Then a scoff is heard from next to him. “But hyung,” comes a whiney voice. “You know how I've been craving it since morning!”
And Minho can only handle this much. So he huffs out a breath before finally lifting his face from the cat video he was watching.
“Changbin, I swear to God you better give Felix the cheesecake right now.” He almost growls.
“But-”
“No,” He cuts off. “God no, there's only so much I can handle.”
The freckled boy smiles brightly at Minho´s words, before turning to his boyfriend with pleading eyes.
“Please hyung.”
And Changbin is too soft and far gone for the boy to refuse him any longer.
“Fine,” All though he tries to seem annoyed, the smile on his lips fails to do so. “There you go,” He says while putting the plate in the other´s food tray.
“I was gonna give it to you either way.” He mumbles,
Felix beams at this, his eyes practically sparkling. “Thank you baby. I love you.” He says while leaning over the table to peck his soulmate´s -now crimson- cheeks.
Changbin and Felix have been part of Minho´s friend group since middle school. Well Changbin has, but when at his seventeen he met Felix for the first time in the school hallways and they exchanged their first words, there was no denying that the younger would now become part of their group too.
It's funny because Minho and the rest of the gang- Hyunjin and Chan- were there to witness it.
The four boys were just on their ways to their classes when Felix appeared out of nowhere with lost eyes, grabbing Changbin´s wrist for attention.
And when he was met with the sight of a beautiful boy with stars on his face, well, Changbin was awestruck.
“Sorry but do you know where the library is?” He spoke in a deep voice.
And Changbin couldn´t help the way his breath hitched at the other´s words.
Could it be that...
When the boy tilts his head with a confused pout in his lips, Changbin wants to coo out loud at how cute he is.
Shaking his head and trying to organize his thoughts, he finally finds his voice to answer him. He tries not to panic and think too hard on his next words.
Well, we can say he didn't think at all because not even five seconds after he´s blurting out the words imprinted on the other´s wrist.
“Your face doesn't match your voice.”
Very Changbin if you ask Minho. And Felix must also agree with him.
But at the end of the day, Felix still blushed while giggling when Changbin had spoken out loud. Because that´s the moment they both realized how important they would become to each other.
Which brings us to right now, where Minho can´t no longer handle their stupidly dumb and cute as fuck of a relationship.
“If you were gonna give it to him either way, why argue for over twenty minutes already?” He asks with a sarcastic smile at the end.
“Because,” Changbin starts off hesitantly. “Lix looks cute when he's sulking.”
Minho looks about ready to throw his sandwich to the other´s face. It's a good thing Hyunjin decides to appear.
“Hello my loves, did you miss me?” He asks while grinning.
Minho makes a disgusted face when he registers the pet name. Nevertheless, he couldn't be more glad for having someone other than the couple with him right now.
“Where were you?” Felix asks instead.
“That's no way to greet your friend Lix,” He pouts. “But I was… busy…”
Minho has long given up on hearing their conversation, taking the chance to focus once again on the cute cat video he was previously watching.
Then he hears a noise coming from the table next to them and brings his head up in curiosity.
There, sitting on one of the old canteen chairs, is now a boy. His hair dyed in a moonlight blue shade that is almost faded by this point, almond eyes and full cheeks.
He carries around his neck a pair of headphones and is dressed in oversized black clothes.
He must have felt someone observing him and so, he glances up, only to lock eyes with no one but Minho himself.
Minho expects him to maybe avoid eye contact but no, that's not what happens. Instead, the boy stays looking at him. His expression neutral.
Normally Minho is pretty good at reading people's faces. But this boy… he gets nothing.
He doesn't understand at all what´s going on inside his head. He can't read him. He just can´t.
Minho cocks his head to the side curiously. His eyebrows furrowing, and lips jutted out in a small pout.
He can't figure the stranger out at all, and that bothers him a little, but also feeds his curiosity even more.
The boy and he keep up their strange staring contest for a few seconds longer, until Minho registers the voices calling him.
“Minho? Hyung! Were you listening?” Felix asks.
“What?” Minho says after.
Felix looks at him weirdly before moving his hand in the air in dismay. “Whatever. We were talking about Hyunjin´s long term crush.”
That manages to make a grin place itself on the older´s lips.
“Oh,” He glances at the boy in question whose face is now painted with a pink shade. “Have you talked to him?”
The pink color seems to brighten more at the question.
Changbin gasps at this. “Seriously Hyunjin? It's been almost two years!” He can't help the way he gets a bit annoyed. ”Just talk to him already!”
“Hyung,” Felix calls in a warning tone. “Let him be.”
“But sunshine-”
“Changbin hyung.” Felix repeats.
Minho notices the way Hyunjin starts shifting uncomfortably on his seat.
Carefully, he takes one of his hands under the table and locks them together. Fingers rubbing over his palm in what he hopes can be soothing somehow.
The younger looks at him with grateful eyes, to which Minho only gives a small smile in response.
Maybe it's because out of their friend group, he and Hyunjin are the only ones who haven't met their soulmates yet . But Minho always felt a little bit more compassion you can say for the younger.
Hyunjin is like the sibling he never had, and he knows the other feels the same way. Hyunjin is the younger brother he feels the constant need to protect, and Minho is his older brother that he looks up to.
“We should start heading to class you guys.” Minho announces.
Felix nods along with his words. “You two can get going hyungs,” He informs with a smile. “I´m gonna drop Changbin in his class first.”
“Why?”
“To make sure you don't skip it again.” He answers while taking the older´s hand in his and dragging him away.
Minho and Hyunjin can only hear Changbin grumbling something at the other´s words, snorting at the sight of the chaotic couple.
“Let's go hyung,” Hyunjin announces.
Minho hums in agreement before standing up. He is reminded of the boy from before and out of curiosity decides to glance back at the table from before only to find the seat that was previously taken, now empty.
If he feels something close to disappointment at this, he's quick to brush it off. Instead believing that he just got bored of his repetitive routine and wished for something new.
Minho will never admit it to himself, but he knows that's not the truth.
