Work Text:
Baek Dong Soo, Yeo Woon, Yang Cho Rip. They were deployed as beacon guards a few days ago. It is time for them to sleep now, to rest after an exhausting day of labour.
Dong Soo is not able to sleep, though. No matter how hard he tries to sleep, he can't. Being sure that he would not get any sleep tonight, he opens his eyes, gets up and begins walking towards what his heart was missing in the pouring rain. He wants to go to the temple, where the woman he has begun to have some feelings for was often at.
Yeo Woon, being alert as usual, watches as Dong Soo is getting up and starts moving away from them, from him. He once again becomes worried for Dong Soo, this time even more, because Dong Soo had been bitten by a snake only several hours ago and is still recovering from it, thanks to Yeo Woon, who had cut his wrist and sucked the poisoned blood out of his veins, saving his life and arm. Dong Soo always manages to make him worried and scared, so he once again decides to follow him, wherever Dong Soo is going to, in order to keep him out of danger, in order to keep him safe.
As he is following him, Dong Soo does not notice him. Dong Soo seems lifeless, out of this world and into the world of his thoughts. Yeo Woon knows that something is troubling him. He would think of what to do once they arrived at where Dong Soo is heading to.
The road is starting to become quite familiar to Yeo Woon, and as he is watching Dong Soo climbing stairs he has climbed a few times, he is confirmed that they are at the temple, the temple where Dong Soo had gone to watch that woman before, with Yeo Woon following him once again. The fact that Dong Soo is now there is sending a wave of sudden sadness at Yeo Woon, something he has felt several times because of Dong Soo and something that has managed to keep him awake for many nights.
Dong Soo is now in front of the painting he drew of himself and her when he went to visit her, looking at it, as if it would somehow ease the feelings he is having at this moment. Yeo Woon is several metres away from him. He is in a dilemma. It saddens him, watching Dong Soo in this state. He wants to ask him what exactly is happening to him, why exactly he has come here. However, at the same time he believes that he should just go away, return at the beacon post and pretend like he knew nothing the next day. As he is considering his options, Dong Soo turns his head and sees him.
"Woon-ah."
He cannot turn back anymore, he is foolishly and amateurly found out, all because of Dong Soo. So he decides he should go and ask him straight away what is the thing that troubles him, in order to ease his own worry and fear and also to try to do anything he can for Dong Soo. And so he does. He starts moving towards a surprised Dong Soo.
"Baek Dong Soo. What do you think you are doing here, under the pouring rain, all uncovered and wet?"
They are closer to each other now.
Dong Soo decides to tell him, he is Yeo Woon anyway. He doesn't have anything to hide from him. His eyes have left Yeo Woon's and are stabilised to the ground now. He starts talking, his sadness being obvious through his tone of voice, instantly hurting Yeo Woon.
"It seems like, I'm really sick."
He puts his hand on the area where his heart is.
"Right here. Heartache."
Yeo Woon is instantly reminded of Sky Lord's words the night he almost killed himself. "This is pain. Embracing someone's else pain as your own, that is an assassin." Yeo Woon knows, that "someone else's pain" is Dong Soo's. He wants to embrace his pain as if it was his own and take it away from him. Take it all away, only for him.
Dong Soo continues talking, not being aware that he is cruelly tearing Yeo Woon apart with his words.
"Woon-ah, I miss her so much. It is so painful."
In the desperate need for comfort and touch at that moment, Dong Soo inches closer and puts his forehead on Yeo Woon's shoulder. Yeo Woon, being Yeo Woon, doesn't know what to say to make him feel better. All he wants right now is to take his pain away. All he wants right now is to embrace his pain. Because that way Dong Soo could playfully smile again, and Yeo Woon could feel at peace then, be able to soften his devastating thoughts and feelings that have been daily haunting him ever since he was little, but have drawn away, even a bit, since he met him.
Since he can't say anything, he decides to act instead. He is best with actions anyway. He feels like he doesn't deserve to be the one to comfort Dong Soo. Because of who he is, an assassin born only to kill, he shouldn't do what he is about to do right now. The fact that he is living is itself a sin. Despite feeling like this, he can't help but give in. In this moment, he decides to give in. "For your happiness, Dong Soo", his inner thoughts. As Dong Soo has still his forehead on his shoulder, Yeo Woon raises his hands and slowly envelopes the man into an embrace, having his hands around his waist, he presses his body against his gently, but firmly.
Dong Soo is both surprised and glad, feeling Yeo Woon's hands around his waist. He smiles faintly, but sincerely. Yeo Woon's touch makes him feel better, instantly. His very closeness makes him feel safe, that everything is okay, that the pain he has felt all this time is slowly fading away and being forgotten. He in return embraces Yeo Woon's shoulders and neck, colliding their soaked bodies against each other, bringing them even closer to each other.
Yeo Woon doesn't see anything around him. His eyes aren't focusing on anything. He only feels, feels like his soul has been soothened and taken away by him, along with all his eternal fears and ache. It makes him forget everything, at this moment. He can feel every bit of his masculine body against his, he can feel his heartbeat and steady breathing, that are able to make him slowly and pleasantly fall asleep right there and then, in his arms and he knows that his dreams will not be nightmares, for once. Dong Soo fills Yeo Woon's emptiness with his everything. He is his everything. He doesn't want to let go. He doesn't ever want to let go. He foolishly wants this moment to last forever.
Several minutes have passed, and none of them has let go yet. The feelings their nearness brings to both of them don't allow them to feel the need to part. Yeo Woon is truly happy, for he knows he has successfully made Dong Soo happy. His "Thank you, Woon-ah.", exhaled close to his ear, bringing shivers down his whole body, is pronounced with such sweetness and sincerity. Yeo Woon knows that Dong Soo is smiling and it makes him brightly smile in return.
The rain continues to fall mercilessly, but it doesn't matter. To neither of them. They voicelessly decide to enshrine this moment. For all the other sleepless, endless and inevitable nights filled with fear, sorrow, regret, agony, longing and yearning that are about to come, as well as for the rest of their life, it will be a faint sunray of light and warmth.
