As Life is Slowly being Abandoned

Summary:

It is Dong Soo's turn to die. A death he welcomes, having no reason to live anymore since a long time ago.

Work Text:

Baek Dong Soo. Once the finest warrior of Joseon, now a fallen warrior.

He has been fatally stabbed in a fight. The opponent used two short swords as weapons, reminding Dong Soo of a certain someone, a certain lost love. Because of this, his enemy engraved the wound in his body.

"I expected much more of the Great Baek Dong Soo. You have disappointed me." he said and cruelly left the field on his horse.

Dong Soo is on his knees. He knows time is short for him, he knows he wouldn't and couldn't last long without Yeo Woon no longer by his side. Ever since Yeo Woon's departure, he has lost all his hope forever. His hope, dreams, sanity, life, existence, they have all been ripped off him by Yeo Woon from the moment he gave up his own life in Dong Soo's arms. His life has been nothing but everlasting sorrow, agony, regrets, and yearning. Not even once he has felt happiness, not even once he has felt like several years ago, when he and Yeo Woon reunited. They had reunited so cruelly, only to be separated once again after an extremely short time, this time forever.

Since that day, he has promised himself to die in the same spot where Yeo Woon died. That's why he always chooses to fight in this field. The exact place where Yeo Woon died is not far from where he is. Bleeding, he slowly and painfully tries to raise himself. He manages to do so to an extend and limps to that place, his dying place. This is the last time I am walking. He has almost reached it, he is so close, but he gives in to the pain and falls down again. He begins crawling. After a bit and a lot of effort, he is finally here, the spot where his only one died.

Lying here, waiting for death to take him away, his mind cruelly begins piercing him with memories of a man who loved him more than his own self, a man who loved him more than he could ever know. A man Dong Soo could have realised he loved far earlier and eventually save him. Hot tears have already started falling uncontrollably, while calling his name. Memories of his beautiful smiles which were given almost entirely to him, memories of his touches and sacrifices he had done for him. He thinks he can feel his touch... How he yearns for him... For every bit of him. His cry becomes more intense, physically aching. All these make him regret once again things he has said to him, without being aware that he hurt him with those. If only he had acted differently at so many times, if only he had told him that he loves him like he did, if only he hadn't let themselves fight, maybe, just maybe, Yeo Woon would be alive now, he could be by his side smiling with him, freed from all the suffering, both of them. All these memories and regrets are haunting him for the last time now. They have been haunting, tormenting him for such a long time. For too long. His waking hours, his sleeping hours, his whole life. It's time for them to stop, it's time for him to rest. He cannot bear this life any longer. Not without Yeo Woon.

Will I see you once more, Woon-ah? Will I be able to love you like I should have done so many years ago? Will you be there to embrace me and kiss me, Woon-ah? Will I be able to ask for your forgiveness? Will I be able to thank you for all that you have selflessly done for me? Despite what his beliefs are and what he believes is logical, he wants to believe that all these are going to happen. .

He feels death finally taking over. Despite his body turning cold, warmth is felt to the slightest. Maybe it's because Yeo Woon was there at one time, maybe it's because he can somehow feel him, for the last time.

"Thank you, Woon-ah... Forgive me..."

He finally enters the eternal sleep, thinking of him.
