Chapter Text

Yoongi and Hoseok are just bros, best friend, people would say. Yoongi knows, he very well knows. An Alpha-Beta friendship that has been built since they could barely walk in steady feet. They stick together that people will find them weird if they don't present side-by-side, or at least on one place altogether. They hold each other's discomfit memories. Because they basically grown up in joint.

But one Yoongi can't understand is, now, he doesn't get it why his heart stings a lot to remember Hoseok is going to chase someone and pursue a serious relationship.

Hoseok had hook-ups, exes, all Yoongi knows name about. So does Hoseok, as he knows all that Yoongi's. But it has been henceforth 3 years, since both resolved to not ponder on it.

It was Yoongi, the first one to call a halt. His partners were if ever been not much a jealousy person, they were grueling. Neither of his relationship lasted more than a month. So that was why he desist. Hoseok followed his way much later, for no apparent reason that Yoongi was aware of, but he made a guess that Hoseok was weary of his annoying—obsessive, infuriating clingy partner.

It was the very last night Hoseok had told him about a person that seems to be compatible with him, and he would take the person on their first date the next day— tonight. And the information made him feel sick to his stomach.

Yoongi is— it's simply unfathomable to him. All before those 3 years he had been fine with Hoseok playing around, dating anyone he felt comfortable with. Was it because of he didn't know for a fact Hoseok had been seeing someone until the previous night? So he was not prepared for it? Prepared— what for?

Hoseok is fairly attractive, of course, people all around them has affirmed. Tall and firm posture, sharp features of his face, a pointy slide-like nose, golden natural tone of his skin that match his chestnut hair, and inquiry based — is the warm scent of spicy ginger mixed with cedarwood. Hoseok is not muscly-pig like conventional Alpha stereotypes, not so skyhigh tall, too. His presence, on the other hand, simply warms everyone around him, attracting people to him. People want to befriend him even if they don't regard him as a significant other.

Plenty had asked, of course, if Yoongi at some point considering Hoseok as ‘an Alpha’ that Yoongi swept the wonders under a rug and dump them as he never want to think about. Maybe, well apparently, most of them only playing around with him, not actually intrigued for what he has to say. After all, an Alpha-Beta couple is nothing nonexistent, but still uncommon to their society.

Alphas are associated to have a romantic relationship to Omegas, or even to Alphas themselves. Not that people still stick to the old-fashioned rules; they don't seem to bother, even many support any kind of love.

Yoongi lets out a sigh. The bitterness of last night's whiskey talk between him and his buddy still remains in his chest. No matter how many times he tries to slip the thought off, it keeps coming back.

Yoongi shakes his head. He tells himself, that today supposed to be a significant big-day for him, as an encouragement to himself. He is going to present his final design of a cabin that was supposed to be erected on a resort. He considered telling Hoseok last night that they would have a nice supper tonight to celebrate, alas the man had other plans.

Yoongi had always been a pessimist, rather for today he has decided to be an optimist. He devoted months of his life to this endeavor, pouring his blood, sweat, and tears into it in the hopes of achieving success.

Then, with a long deep breath, he hurries to the meeting room. Holding the laptop in his side with a firm grasp. He chants to himself, “You can do it. You must to,” From his seat, a coworker on his side taps him on the shoulder and pulls a fist in front of his face, then mutters a small, "Fighting," which he appreciates greatly.

After a few minutes passed, there a man in light grey suit enters the meeting room, the client, followed by his boss thus the man's secretary.

Yoongi's heart thumps to his ear, as if it may jump at any moment. He tries to keep himself satiated, to avoid losing control of his entire existence due to the tension. His hands began to feel cold, the sweat — that keeps him wiping his palms to his slacks — makes them feel slippery.

“Good afternoon. I am grateful for everyone's presence to attend in this meeting room. Since Mr. Lee and we all here, shall we start the meeting,” The boss greet with a big smile plastered to his face. “So, let's show your hard work. Best of luck”

Yoongi was about to get up and grab his laptop when he noticed a man across from him getting set to give his presentation. There Yoongi is struck by a thunderbolt and freezes in his seat, perplexed.

Instead of issuing a warning, his boss greets the man and invites him to begin his presentation. It appears that he was not the only one who got confused, most of his coworkers in the room are, giving him a questioning look. The one who sat beside him, tap his shoulder for the second time that day, “Yoongi-ssi, wasn't it meant to be you presenting there? You were appointed to work on it months ago, didn't you?”, which receives merely a second glance as an answer.

Yoongi is loss of words. He can't comprehend this. No one passed him any word about it. Not even his superior. He barely had 6 hours of sleep for the past months, and it's now dumped like nothing? He dedicated his entire life to this project, and his work now disposed like a useless garbage.

Perhaps, Mr. Lee requested for another different design, and his design would still be called to present later? But, if that's the case, then why is that man exhibiting a model of a cabin? Or was it possible Mr. Lee desired two differently made cabins? Was he?

Yoongi can't make up his mind. He's straining not to explode, not to let his anxiousness consume him completely. He can feel beads of chilly sweats at his temple. The sensational feelings of heaped bricks in the brim of his stomach. He has a strong will to vomit, really bad. He's not sure if he'll be able to hold it until the meeting is finished. But he wants to hold on to his hope for the time being. He wants to be persistent about his optimism, only for today.

That was all there was to it till the man stopped presenting, and have Mr. Lee and his boss began clapping vigorously. The superior then rose to his feet. To call his name, or so he thought. “We had Sungho-ssi to present his design, which absolutely amazing. Let's give him another clap!” he cheers.

Because in lieu, the man is starting to make a closing,

Yoongi couldn't bring his hands together. It lays sluggishly to his side. He wants to cry, so— so bad.

As his boss dismiss the meeting, he frantically catches up to his boss. He needs to have a talk, an explanation. “Excuse me, Sajang-nim,” he says as he approaches the man, “I’m sorry, but wasn't it me who was assigned to work on the cabin design? You assigned it to me months ago, and I had worked on it and completed it.”

His boss avert his eyes for a moment. “Oh.. about that.. hadn't I told you about that?” Yoongi's gut tells him it'd be bad.

“What about?”

“Sungho-ssi has been assigned to your design." It was a long time ago. I— uhm, Mr. Lee requested Sungho-ssi to undertake the task,” he explained. Which gives Yoongi a terrible urge to scream at the jerk to his front right away

What a response.

Yoongi simply couldn't believe it. “He added, barely audible, "It's not because he's your nephew, isn't it?” Even though he couldn't say it loud enough, he couldn't risk being fired.

“Yeah?” The man questioningly asked. To Yoongi's relief, he appears to have missed what was stated.

“So, for the time being, what are we going to do with my design?” Yoongi inquired. He's trying to maintain a formal tone.

“Well, I'm not sure. Maybe keep it for another project, or.. yeah, set go.”

Yoongi can't take it any longer. He's about to blow up. He simply nods and walks away. Though, he was constantly being torn apart by the huge blocks. He would undoubtedly erupt.

Yoongi can't hold it, no more. He's about to explode. He only nods, and rushes out. The heavy bricks constantly breaking him apart. He definitely would explode.

The company will held a dinner. But he excuses himself not to go. He needed his time, alone, only himself, or so he thought. He can't bear anything to remind him about this doomed event. Seeing his boss's face is enough to elicit fury in him, which may render him insane.
