Chapter Text
As the summer sun danced over a light stream, two children ran beside the water. Their laughter was only heard by nature itself. The boys were young, maybe four years old, carrying the joy of innocence in every step, oblivious to all the dangers they would face in future days. One of the two marched forward, his blond spikes like a crown on his proud head. The other stumbled behind his red eyed friend, green curls almost blending into their surroundings.
“’Com’ on Izuku. You’re too slow!” Red eyes shone with mirth and a silent challenge seemingly read to take on the world. The small explosions burst from his hand palms not big enough to make any difference yet.
“Wait for me Kacchan!” His bright smile, stretching over his freckled cheeks. To not disappoint his best friend, he picked up his pace and ran faster. They wanted to play heroes. Maybe today Kacchan would let him be All Might, if he ran faster and was first at their playground. Due to his thoughts the smile grew even wider. Soon they arrived at their destination, an old oak tree in the middle of a forest clearing. Sunlight filtered in through a sealing of leaves and spring flowers.
“Ha! I won again. See! I’m the best.” The boys dropped panthing onto the forest floor “Yes Kacchan you’re amazing!” his voice was laced with pure admiration. They had turned around to face each other. “One day we will be the most amazing hero duo, I will be number one and your number two and no villain will be able to beat us” Katsuki grinned.
“But there are no hero duos Kacchan.” The green-haired boy pouted. “Sure, there are and if not, then that’s dump and we’re just be the first.” His facial expression had turned slightly grumpy. ”Ah right the Water Horse are a superhero duo!” That got him his with confidence dripping grin back. “But they are married, Kacchan. Do we have to marry, if we want to be a hero duo?” Thoughtful, the boy looked to his explosive friend.
“I don’t know but ma said you marry someone when they are important to you and you want to spend the rest of your life with them and you are important to me so let’s marry when we are heroes!” Green eyes met red and both shone with new resolution.
“Yes, I marry you Kacchan, then nothing can stop us!” They laughed. “I will be King Explosion Murder!” Katsuki sat up to appear stronger. “And I will be Mighty Boy! Always there to rescue like All Might.” Izuku beamed. “Together we are the unbeatable super explosion Might’s!” Both jumped up. A new adventure waited for them.
“Can I be All Might today?” The freckled boy tried using the puppy eyes, even though he knew his best friend had grown resistant against them a long time ago. “No, I will be All Might you can’t even beat me in a run and my Quirk is amazing so I’m more like All Might than you!” as demonstration he blew up some small leaves that were scattered around the two “Okay Kacchan. You will see when I get my Quirk, I’ll beat you!” “As if.”

Daycare was always fun for Izuku. The teachers knew he liked heroes, so they always gave him the hero coloring books. Sometimes he even got the All Might ones. It was so interesting to watch the others use their quirks, especially Kacchan, who would come up with new ways all the time. Looking at it, he would have never thought about all the things his best friend could do. All the other kids and even the teachers saw how cool he was. So he got praised all the time. Every time Izuku saw a joyful smile appear on the blond's face he felt really happy for him, so he made sure his friend smiled a lot by praising him all the time. First, he did it for all the amazing stuff his friend did, but soon he had something nice to say to almost everything. That’s just how Kacchan was.
Amazing!

“So Izuku, how was your day? Did you have fun playing with Katsuki?”
Inko Midoriya lived a good life but nothing made her happier than Izuku Midoriya, her true pride and joy of life. The small boy had a slightly dazed smile on his lips, nevertheless his contentment was very visible in the way these emerald orbs sparkled like sunshine had been caught in them.
“Yes, Kacchan is so amazing! We played in the forest, he was All Might and saved me from a Villain and then we both were heroes and saved the people.” Excitedly the three-year-old waved his hands to undermine his statements. Inko chuckled, yes, she loved her son with all her heart.
“Eat your dinner dear, you have to eat to grow and be as strong as All Might.” She patted her son’s hair gently. She would have to make a picture and send it to Hisashi to show him how their little boy grew. Maybe he would even come sooner for Izuku’s birthday this week. Why did he have to work so far away? The thought clouded her emotions for a moment.
“I finished mommy; can I watch the All Might before going to sleep please?” “Yes, you can but then you really have to sleep.” her son looked at her with pleading eyes. To be honest, though this news report was more worrisome than amazing how her son saw the hero’s debut, still she rose from her seat and turned the family computer on for her baby to watch. For some reason he never grew tired of these short minutes as he must have watched it over 100 times by now. Izuku vibrated on the chair with anticipation, she would not let him wait any longer and pressed the play button. As her baby focused on All Might she quickly captured the moment in photos for her husband. Inko really hoped he liked this small part of their life.

When Izuku woke up the next morning he felt different. He could not pinpoint what exactly but he felt it deep down in his tummy. Maybe his quirk finally came? That got him awake instantly. The small boy jumped out of the bead; half tangled in his sheets. He ruffled it away and looked around.
How could he figure out what his quirk was? If he tried intensifying the feeling in his body would that make something happen? Or what if he had a mutation type Quirk? He locked himself up and down, for sure he would only be able to tell, if he went to the bathroom. But first the feeling. Izuku closed his eyes again to concentrate better. The three-year-old stretched out his hands trying to make something work but nothing happened. At that moment somebody knocked on his door. It opened to reveal none other than Midoriya Hisashi casually coming into the child’s bedroom to wake him up.
“Oh, you are already awake Izuku.” His father smiled gently as he ran to hug the man. “Do you look excited for any particular reason?” His arms closed around his son. “You are here! But mommy said you will come only on my birthday-“ from then on Hisashi you no longer grasp what the boy mumbled, too many thoughts muttered too fast.
Occasionally a word would make sense so he could imagine what was going on. Currently it seemed to be if he came to visit because he quit his job or if Izuku had slept two days instead of one and today was already his birthday. He chuckled, such a bright boy, with the right boy he would make a great difference in the future.
“Come my son, let's not let your mother wait too long. Breakfast is waiting for us.” Both Midoriya’s made their way to the kitchen. For Izuku it already seemed to be an amazing day. His dad was here and maybe his quirk came! Oh, that’s right his quirk he almost forgot about that.
“Mommy, daddy? I felt different this morning. Do you think I have a quirk now? I want to have a quirk that is so amazing like Kacchan’s quirk or All Might!” he beamed at his parents who traded meaningful glances. “How different do you feel exactly?” his mom asked.
The second time that day Izuku tried to focus on the strange feeling in his belly to see if it was a quirk but now there was nothing. He tried harder but still the feeling he had in the morning would not return, not even faintly. Disappointed, he lowered his head. Thick tears flooded from his eyes.
“Izu baby, it’s okay your Quirk will come one of these days you see. Just don’t think too hard about it.” Inko hated to see her son so sad right Infront of her, especially if she couldn’t do anything. “Hey don’t worry Izuku soon you will have a strong Quirk better than even Katsuki.”
Izuku felt a hand pat his green curls. A small smile reached his lips. They were right, mommy was always right soon he would have a Quirk! Inko breathed a silent sigh of relief. Hopefully she was right and her son would finally get his quirk. “Let’s eat after all this beautiful woman spend so much time preparing if for us.” Her husband's charming smile always brought a blush to her cheeks.

“Happy Birthday Izuku!” Everyone cheered for him. Grinning, he blew out his four candles and secretly wished for a Quirk. “I want cake!” Kacchan screamed from somewhere behind him. Izuku leaned back so his mother could cut the cake for the small group. He did not have many friends but still Kacchan and the others came. Even daddy was there to eat cake and have fun. Happy he took his own slice of birthday cake and started eating. Maybe Kacchan would let him be All Might today.
“Can we go playing?” the winged child asked. “Yes, but be careful Izuku is Quirkless he may not be able to keep up with you.” Tzubasas mom answered and made Izuku frown. Just because he was quirkless did not mean he was helpless. Soon the boys were playing heroes in the garden. Hisashi had taken it upon him to watch so nothing would happen. Four boys running around, three of them proudly showcasing their quirks, the last one running after them as best as he could. With one ear he listened to the chatter from the kitchen.
“So, tell me Inko, did Izuku manifest his quirk yet, if not he won’t probably get one and you know how hard it is for the Quirkless nowadays right?” Mitsuki Bakugou had a way of being direct with words like not many people Inko knew and she liked that about her friend. At least like that she could be sure not to have a false friend. But right now, she was too honest for her liking.
“Mitsuki please, do you have to ask right now? Fine, yesterday he said he felt different but it never came back again so he probably just imagined it.” It was obvious to everyone that Inko hoped Izuku had not imagined that feeling. “Heads up there only like 20% of Quirkless people in the world and the majority are elder, he is just a late bloomer for sure.” The blond pated her friends back. Having a quirkless kid nowadays was bound to be difficult.
“How is Katsuki doing? Explosion sounds to be an exhausting Quirk to clean up.” Sympathetically she looked at her friend.
“Tell me about it! The brat won’t stop using it and I have to clean up, but it’s fine as long as it helps him train. The little demon wants to be a hero after all.” The same confident grin her son always wore mirrored itself now in her features.

“And then Kacchan jumped from a really high place and did not hurt himself!” Carefully Inko tucked her baby into bed which was far more difficult than one would think it to be because the boy would excitedly wave his arms while retelling her his day. “That’s nice but I will have to tell Mitzuki to take a closer look at him, we don’t want him to hurt himself someday, right?” Izuku giggled in response. Finally, she could pull the covers right to the tip of the now four-year-old’s nose.
“Mommy? When will my Quirk come? All the others already have theirs and I’m four now so I have to have a quirk.” His big green eyes shone with fear. “Shh baby, don’t worry, maybe your Quirk is so, so big that it needs extra time to manifest.”
The Mother brushed away some curls and leaned down to place a gentle kiss to the freckled forehead. Izuku closed his eyes and nuzzled deeper into his bed. Barely hearable he mumbled “But what if it never comes?” A sad look paced itself on the mother’s face.
“We’ll go to a quirk doctor this week. He can tell us what your quirk is, honey. Till then just sleep.” Lovingly she strokes her son’s hair. No matter what she would always put him first, even if he somewhat happened to be Quirkless that would not stop her from protecting her little baby.
