Work Text:

The sun came up, flooding diffused light from the shoji throughout the room, hitting every corner.

All of the other Hashira's staying at the Wisteria house would be waking up soon, so Kyojuro decided to help the nice old woman who took care of the mansion cook breakfast. He always felt the need to help people, especially the elderly. She was such a nice old woman who aided anyone in the Demon Slayer Corps so he obviously owed her for her support and constant good deeds. Caring for the injured is a difficult job but she does it very well and makes delicious food for her tenants. Maybe one day he could take care of as many people as she did.

Rengoku was a big morning person, considering how much energy he always had. Every morning, he woke up before the sun rose and took a walk by himself, taking in the world one step at a time. Today, he simply walked around the outside of the building and admired the wisteria around the house. The beautiful flowers that cascaded colors of purple and blue filled his heart with a feeling of safety. Wisteria was poisonous to demons, so they were all safe. Which was good, because he didn't want to strain himself due to the fact that he was supposed to be healing. Another fight would put him out of commission for sure.

The day before, Rengoku and the team of Hashira's he was with had some intense training in the woods and ran into one of the upper ranked demons. It was tough on them despite their experience and they were exhausted. They fought from dusk to dawn and had acquired many injuries, so they were ordered to get some rest in a safe place until they were ready to battle again.

Despite having a broken rib that leaned into his lungs, Kyojuro laughed as bright as ever. He was completely un-phased by the pain in his upper torso and this made his best friend, Uzui, proud. "What a flamboyant attitude!" Uzui exclaimed, hitting Rengoku's back after the battle was over. Kyojuro laughs at the memory. Uzui was usually a very cocky guy when it came to himself, but an amazing ally. They got along very well.

As soon as Rengoku collects his array of thoughts, he takes to his feet and walks to the kitchen through a few hallways, greeting the old woman once she comes into view and begins thanking her for taking care of him and his friends. She smiles in a shaky manner due to her old age and hands the man a bowl of rice, asking him to set the table and he agrees with a bright attitude. "Yes!" He shouts, blinking and moving to the table in an orderly fashion. He sits the rice on the table and organizes bowls and chop sticks in a neat order for each of the hashira's staying at the house. Rengoku wasn't a perfectionist, but he took pleasure in things that looked put together. It reminded him of his mother and how she used to set the table before meals when he was a young boy.

"Miss! Is there anything else I can do for you!" He turns towards the old woman and asks with a big grin on his face. The lady shakes her head, signaling that he had done enough and not soon after, Mitsuri and Iguro walk in to the dining area. Mitsuri looks half asleep as she yawns, and Iguro has an annoyed look on his face as if he didn't get enough sleep. Rengoku couldn't blame him, though. Iguro had the most injuries from the day before and had to endure a painful recovery process. "Mitsuri, sit right here." He says quietly and looks at Rengoku and the lady, silently nodding in appreciation. Mitsuri sits right beside Iguro and the two wait for the rest to join them before eating. Shinobu and Uzui were supposed to accompany them despite running errands early this morning since they had no major injuries. Rengoku looks around at his friends and smiles warmly. He always enjoyed eating with the other hashira. It felt like they were always extremely busy with battling demons so times like this were rare.

Soon, Shinobu and Uzui are both walking into the brightly lit dining area, having a conversation about something that Rengoku didn't care enough about to ask about. Once the two sit down and get situated in a position they're comfortable, Rengoku joins them and Mitsuri immediately seems more awake due to the aromatic smells drifting through the room. They all start eating after giving thanks and Uzui immediately starts bragging about how well he did in battle and Rengoku just laughs.

"Ha Ha! Uzui! They truly took you for granted!" He grins, not a thought going through his mind.

The men and women at the table smile and laugh through jokes and conversation. You wouldn't think Demon Slayers would have anything to laugh about, but they were family all sitting together for the last time, so they were going to celebrate every little moment they could. They had all grown so much in the past few years and Rengoku thinks about this with a small smile on his face as he looks around at his comrades sitting and enjoying their food.

Things would soon escalate in their battle against the demons and Muzan, and Rengoku knew that deep down. He wasn't scared, just more or less ready to dedicate the last moments of his life fighting demons. His family, friends, and the whole world deserved to be protected and he knew that he would do anything to achieve that.

"Mitsuri ! Hand me the tofu! Please!" Rengoku exclaims and the table erupts in a laugh.

Notes:

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you all enjoyed this one shot. I really loved writing it and getting to jot down what I think the hashiras were up to in their free time because we never got to see that. I love all of their dynamics and Rengoku and Uzui were definitely besties soooooooo-
anyways, thank you again ! I will see you later :)
