Work Text:
Alfredo knew what Trevor was. It hadn’t really been too big of a secret, and he had been trained to find vampires, so it only made sense he had been drawn to one. Unfortunately, he had taken to Trevor, working to protect him and not actually harm vampires.
He had the scent of vampire on him, easily convincing other vampires to stop what they were doing or find other ways to eat. He knew they didn’t need to drain people to eat them, but they got the thrill of the kill, as Trevor had told him. He admitted he had killed more than his fair share of people, but it was fine because he didn’t anymore. He found ways to drink from people without them dying and alternative methods for food.
Alfredo had learned a lot about his bounties from Trevor. He seemed to have information on each of the vampires he had to go after, always a bit concerned when Trevor presented the information.
“How do you know this?” He asked, raising an eyebrow and stopping Trevor in his tracks.
“I have to keep tabs on vampires. There’s not terribly many of us, so it’s not a struggle. I just want to make sure everyone is doing what they need to do and not taking more than they should.”
“Okay, doesn’t explain why you need to know everything.”
“I just like to.”
And he left it at that, going back to pacing as he listed off things about this particular set of vampires. Alfredo listened attentively, watching his friend closely. It was always interesting how intense he got in the briefing.
When Trevor had finished, Alfredo collected his coat and leather bag, a doctor’s bag, and he turned on his heel.
“Be careful. They’re... possibly the worst of this century.”
“I think you say that about most things, Trevor. I will be fine. There’s nothing that I can’t do.”
Trevor gave him a nervous smile as he walked out the door, maybe a little more confident than he should be.
Alfredo made his way to where he knew the vampires would be. He blended into the crowd, easily sneaking into the club. He had a sly smile on his face as he made his way to the bar. It always seemed like vampires knew how to party, always finding a way for a few meals to be shared between everyone. He wasn’t exactly sure how they were pulling it off, besides the fact that the 1920’s were a busy time for everyone. They so easily slipped under the radar, but he knew where to look.
He grabbed a drink to better blend in before he made his way to a table in the corner. It was a prime spot to watch for his mark. Or marks. He wasn’t sure how many would show up tonight.
It took an hour or so for one to show up, Alfredo eyeing them as they came in before looking as interested in his drink as he could. He had done this a million times, but his head was ringing with Trevor’s words.
Once he managed to muster the courage, he got up and made his way to the vampire, leaning close enough for him to catch his actual scent. It seemed to work when the man lit up, a smile spreading across his face.
“And what brings you here?” He asked, a hand moving to snake around Alfredo’s waist.
“A friend told me about this place. I figured I’d check it out. He seemed to have loads of fun last time he came.” He did his best to act as unknowing about this place as possible.
“Oh, I’m sure you’ll have plenty of fun as long as you stay with me.” His grip on Alfredo tightened, smiling far too sweetly.
The night was easy after that, Alfredo smiling and laughing and leading the vampire along. He knew the other thought he’d be getting a meal out of this and he couldn’t wait until he turned it on him.
They left the club, an arm around Alfredo, keeping him close. Alfredo did his best not to be tense, concerned. It was all going according to plan. He would have this vampire in his grasps and soon he would stop causing problems.
He assumed they were going to his house, leaning into the man and smiling, laughing at things he said. He wanted to make him feel comfortable, even though he was beginning to get a little nervous. They were in a part of town he didn’t recognize, which was odd since he tended to know most places around here. His hand tightened on his bag, looking up at his company every so often.
“Haven’t been here before,” he said, trying to keep some kind of conversation going.
“Most people haven’t. They tend to not want to be here. It’s more of a high-class kind of place. People feel out of place.” His voice was smooth like velvet, somehow easing some of Alfredo’s nerves.
They continued on in silence, Alfredo trying to keep track of the turns and places that they’ve been, but his mind was growing far too fuzzy.
They rounded one last corner before they were before a larger house, Alfredo staring, unable to process where he even was. Somewhere along the way he had lost his bag, not even realizing it as he was guided in.
“Do you need anything?” The vampire asked, door closing as he stepped away from Alfredo.
“No, I’m okay,” he mumbled, not remembering exactly why he was here in the first place.
“Good. Make yourself comfortable. Take a seat. I have a few things to get.”
Alfredo nodded slowly, walking towards a couch and taking a seat. His mind was so foggy, trying to remember the reason he had come home with this man. He knew it was more than to sleep with him, but he couldn’t bring himself to remember. Leaning back, he sighed softly. It would come to him eventually.
The man returned, a soft smile on his face as he took a seat next to Alfredo. An arm wrapped around his shoulders, pulling him close as Alfredo rested his head on his shoulder.
“We both know why you’re here,” he said, fingers tracing circles on Alfredo’s shoulder.
“Yea, we do,” he mumbled, even though he couldn’t remember the real reason.
He turned his head, looking at the man as he brought a hand to his cheek, leaning in to kiss him. Alfredo let himself enjoy the kiss, mind growing fuzzier as he did. Maybe this was why he was here. It wasn’t unusual for him. And this man was quite handsome, so he understood why he just came here.
As they kissed, the man began to kiss towards his neck, sucking a spot onto it. Before Alfredo could think, too far in his bliss and mind fog, there was a sharp pain. He gasped, grabbing onto the man’s arm, unable to pull himself away. His body was heavy, hands tight on his arm and gasping. It was a shock to his system, but not enough to clear the fog.
He didn’t have the ability to try to fight back, as the man was drinking his blood. His mind continued to grow heavier, his limbs feeling as though they were weighed down with lead. He could only whimper, hoping that he would stop.
Alfredo closed his eyes, waiting for it to stop, but it felt like it wouldn’t until the man was ripped away from him, leaving Alfredo to fall over on the couch. A hand flew to his neck, eyes opening and seeing Trevor standing there, a stake in his hand as he was over the vampire. With a quick movement, he impaled the vampire, the man quickly dissolving to dust.
He laid there, gasping and staring at Trevor as his mind began to clear. Trevor was panting over the pile of ash, eyes glowing as he looked to Alfredo, dropping the stake and moving to him in two quick strides. He was on the edge of the couch, putting pressure on Alfredo’s neck.
“I knew I shouldn’t have let you go alone,” he mumbled, leaning in to get a good look at the bite.
It was bleeding, that was for certain. Trevor wasn’t sure if he could stop it and Alfredo already looked far too pale.
“Shit,” he mumbled, trying to keep as much pressure on his neck as possible. “Shit...”
Alfredo looked up at Trevor, panic in his eyes as he was realizing what had happened. His mind was still fuzzy, but this time it was due to the blood loss. He blinked slowly, almost resigning himself to this being the end. Until an idea popped into his head.
“Trevor, you have to turn me.” His voice was quiet, unsure what the other would think.
“What? I... I can’t turn you, Alfredo. It wouldn’t be fair.”
“I don’t want to die, Trevor. I’m... scared.” He always knew it was a possibility that something like this could happen, but it didn’t make him any less scared.
“Shit,” he muttered, looking Alfredo over.
Trevor took a second to weigh the options. He hoped Alfredo wouldn’t resent him for turning him, but he had to do it. How could he let him die when he had a chance to do something about it. He hadn’t turned anyone before. What if he killed him?
Trevor didn’t have the time to think it over as Alfredo was laying there. He could see him growing more distant and he didn’t want to see him die. In what was probably the most difficult decision he had to make.
Leaning down, he moved his hand, opening his mouth and sinking his teeth into Alfredo’s neck. He kept himself under control at the taste of blood, having not even bit a human in far more years than he could count. His heart would be beating so fast if it was functional, pumping some venom into him. He remembered what it was like to turn, clinging tightly to Alfredo. Slowly, he pulled away, gripping Alfredo’s hand.
“It’s gonna hurt,” he whispered, licking the blood off his lips.
Alfredo didn’t have a moment to respond as he felt the venom begin to course through his veins. He was gasping, hand gripping tightly to Trevor’s. His could feel his heart stopping, a tightening in his chest. Part of him thought maybe he should’ve just died instead of having pain through every inch of his body. He knew things were stopping, could feel himself basically dying. And soon, everything faded to black as he took his last breath.
When he came to, he could feel the difference in himself. He still felt as though he were made of lead, instinctively gasping for air he no longer needed. He blinked a few times, looking up at Trevor who had a sad smile on his face, still holding his hand.
“I... should’ve warned you it hurt,” he mumbled, thumb gently rubbing the back of Alfredo’s hand.
“Didn't really have the time to,” he said, squeezing Trevor’s hand.
“That... was the last thing I had wanted to do. I... followed you tonight, worried he’d do something. And I’m sorry I didn’t stop him sooner.”
“Not like you could’ve known how it would turn out. Not like we had a choice...”
Alfredo slowly sat up, feeling his head spinning as he moved. He leaned his head against Trevor’s shoulder, sighing softly.
“I... am so sorry, Alfredo.” He wrapped an arm around him, pulling him closer.
They sat there in silence for a few moments before Trevor pressed a kiss to the top of Alfredo’s head. He sighed, holding him tighter.
“I chose this. You just helped...” Alfredo moved to look at Trevor, hands resting on his shoulders. “You did what I asked without a second thought. Thank you for not letting me die...”
“How could I let you die like that? Or ever? Not... that I want you to have to live an eternity, but... I wasn’t ready to lose you.”
“And I wasn’t ready to die...”
They stared at each other for a few moments before Trevor moved to stand up, reaching a hand out to help Alfredo.
“We should get you something to eat. Turning takes a lot out of you.”
Alfredo stood on shaky legs, leaning into Trevor when he was up. He wrapped an arm around Trevor’s waist, pressing close to him.
“At least I get to spend an eternity with you,” Alfredo whispered, smiling softly at Trevor.
“And eternity won’t be so lonely anymore...”
