Everyone knew who Maya Bishop was. Maya Bishop, the three time Olympic gold medalist who went on to become a champion of LGBTQ+ rights and also lobbied to make gay marriage legal in the state of Washington 8 years before the landmark Supreme Court hearing. She was charismatic, confident, and bold and had great hair. All these characteristics made it easy for her to win a seat in the Washington state senate. Her entry into the public sphere had been exciting and brought her good publicity in the press. But after two terms in the state senate, her media coverage was very low and she hardly made it into the news anymore. She needed something, some issue she could fight for; to increase her coverage in the media
.
Enter Carina DeLuca. She was the head of department of obstetricians and gynecology at Seattle grace hospital, the states foremost hospital. She had also founded 13 clinics across the state to increase access for underprivileged women and girls.
Maya’s chief of staff, Victoria Hughes, came in one morning.
“So, we’re looking for a cause right? This woman just reached out to me, and what she has is a pretty good. I think you should meet with her.”
“Umm, what’s it about?” asked the representative
“Well, you may have heard of her. She is the founder of “The Veronica Org”. She wants us to pass a simple law that would help cut maternal mortality in half. It would pass pretty easily, not much fuss, but it would help us get back in the coverage. We want a strong position before announcing your governor bid and I think this maybe it. Plus, she could be a potential donor.”
“Okay. Let’s set a meeting with her. Thank you Hughes.”
