It was a little high school party, that was it.
It wasn’t meant to be anything big. Wasn’t meant to be something life changing. Actually, it was kind of just a random celebration. Took place around Thanksgiving but wasn’t Thanksgiving. Instead, it was a bunch of them at a party, some friends stopping by that he didn’t know but most of them that he did. They were eating, getting some drinks (all non-alcoholic), and watching TV. Not much else. A couple people were in the pool. Some were playing cards in the living room. Techno was pretty sure that some people were playing a game of D&D on the roof.
Rolling his eyes, he went out to check the backyard for anyone he knew. Dream and Sapnap were in the pool. Swimming over, George settled against Dream’s lap and smiled at him. Disgusting, Techno thought to himself. “Techno!” A familiar, loud voice said. Turning, he saw Tommy sitting with some of the others around the campfire. He hurried over and sat down there, shuffled in between Wilbur and Phil. Tommy was shoved between Ranboo and Tubbo, and he grinned at Techno and started chattering away.
“Hey, guys! Brownies!” One of the girls said, walking over. She was some random girl from Tommy’s high school, Techno recognized her but didn’t know her name. She offered the tray to everyone, a bright smile on her face.
Quickly, Tommy reached out for a brownie as Ranboo and Tubbo reached over. Then, he paused. The girl paused, frowned slightly. “Are there any peanuts or nuts in it?” Tommy asked.
There was a slight twitch to the girl’s eyebrow. “No. We didn’t make any brownies with nuts. There are MnMs in the left side and some dried raspberries on the right though, so if you don’t like lumpy brownies then you might not like them.” Nodding, Tommy took one of the brownies and took a bite. The girl handed out more of the brownies, although Tommy was the only one who really started eating the brownies. Everyone else was busy chattering away with each other about everything. Tommy had just casually eaten the whole brownie in about two bites.
“You know, sometimes I find it weird that camels have seen sharks.” Tubbo commented. When everyone looked at him, he started explaining. “Camels can swim. Sharks have probably seen camels. Therefore, camels and sharks know that one another are going to exist.” He paused. Then, casually, he added, “Also did you know that the VeggieTales creators talked about how the veggies canonically don’t have—“
“NO, TUBBO!” Ranboo slammed a hand over Tubbo’s mouth so hard that they were thrown back into the chairs a bit more. The chairs proceeded to flip over, throwing them both on their backs. Beside them, Tommy started dying laughing. Like, red-faced and wheezing. It didn’t stop even when everyone else had stopped laughing and Tubbo and Ranboo were sitting back up.
Fanning himself, Tommy stood up. “I’m going—I’m going to be right back. Bruh, Tubbo that was funny I’m freaking light-headed.” Shaking his head, he stumbled away, wheezing the whole time. It was like he was having trouble just breathing .
Rolling his eyes, Techno turned back to the others and looked down at the fire. He hadn’t taken one of the brownies. As Tommy disappeared into the house, Techno saw the brownie girl and a couple others chattering away. She looked like a nice enough girl. Brown eyes, fair skin, blonde hair. Aesthetically very pretty, probably seventeen or eighteen. Close to Tommy’s age. Maybe she had a crush on him and that’s why she wanted him to have one of the brownies? And she was just too shy not to offer it to everyone? Crossing his arms, Techno pulled his legs up next to him. Looking over, Techno looked at Tubbo and Ranboo. Ranboo took a bite of the brownie. Tubbo did the same.
Then, Tubbo made an odd expression. “These are some weird fucking MnM’s.” Ranboo nodded. Pausing, Techno reached over and grabbed Wilbur’s brownie. He didn’t protest. Not even when Techno broke it open, plucked out a MnM, and looked at it. Rather than just a normal MnM, it was just slightly bigger and a bit odder in shape. Frowning, Techno bit into it, pulled the other half of the candy away from his mouth as he chewed on the half he had. Then, he held it in front of the fire.
“Detectiveblade strikes again.” Phil cracked. “What is it?”
“This isn’t a normal MnM.” Immediately, Techno got up, popped the rest of the MnM in his mouth. He stormed over to the girl and her friends. “Hey! Brownie girl!” She glanced back up. Instantly, her eyes widened and she ducked down. Techno paused a couple steps away. “What kind of MnMs did you use?” She didn’t answer. “Did you put peanut butter MnMs in those brownies?”
“Yeah, she did. Why?” One of the other girls, a redhead with curly hair, asked.
“Because my little brother ate one of them and he’s allergic to peanuts. Deathly allergic.” To Techno’s shock, none of them looked remorseful. Instead, the redhead just waved a hand carelessly.
“Please. Allergies are made up. They’re only more prominent now because kids can’t handle things they don’t like.” Techno felt one of his eyes twitch.
“No, allergies are more ‘prominent’ now because the kids who had them just died instead.” Wait, why am I wasting my time on this. They don’t care. Pointing, Techno threatened, “If he dies, I’m going to make sure you get charged with manslaughter or murder. Because it will be your fault. Wilbur!” He turned and hurried towards the house, yelling to the others, “Get me my keys, meet me at the door! Phil, tell Tommy’s parents I’m going to be taking him to the hospital!”
With that, he hurried into the house.
Pushing through people, he quickly glanced through the rooms. Thanked anyone who was listening that the house only had a limited number of rooms they could be in. The kitchen, the living room, the den, the gaming room, the basement, and two bathrooms. Checking the lower floor was easy enough. It was a glance around and asking the D&D kids if anyone had come down. With a no, Techno hurried upstairs. Tommy hadn’t been in the kitchen when he had checked. Not in the connected living room either. The den was basically empty when he glanced in, which meant there was just the bathroom.
Hurrying over, he knocked on the door. “Tommy? You in there?” There was a strangled reply instead of words. It was Tommy, though. “Okay, I’m coming in.” Quickly, Techno leaned back to ram his shoulder. Then, he paused. Reached out. He turned the doorknob. Thankfully, it just opened right up.
Tommy was lying on the floor, gasping and wheezing. His Epi-pen was just a couple inches from his hand. Clearly, he was dropping in and out of consciousness and holding on his throat with his other hand. Almost clawing at his skin.
“Hey, Toms.” Techno said, picking the Epi-pen up off the ground. Quickly, he pulled the blue part of it off, wrapped his whole hand around it, and turned back to Tommy. “You’re going to be alright, we’re going to get you to the hospital real quick.” As he spoke, he jabbed Tommy in the outer thigh with the pen. A small part of him wanted to laugh, because if anyone walked in they would just see Techno stabbing Tommy in the leg while awkwardly holding part of said leg as he laid sprawled on the bathroom floor. Nine…ten. Pulling the pen out, he scooped Tommy up and started carrying him to the door. “Hey! You, blue shirt! Get that door!” The guy pointed at himself, saw Tommy, and then nodded and hurried to the car. “Thank you!”
Quickly, he got Tommy settled in the passenger seat, buckled him in, and immediately called emergency services. “What’s the emergency?” The responder asked.
“I need the closest hospital, I’m bringing my friend in. He’s going into anaphylactic shock after eating a brownie with peanut butter MnMs in it about…” Techno paused. “Ten minutes ago, I think. I’ve administered epinephrine via an Epi-pen. I’m bringing him to the hospital and want to make sure that they have doctors prepared just in case.”
“Alright, good to know. I’ll call it in. Do you have an ETA?” Techno glanced up as he pulled onto one of the side roads. He was pushing the line of speeding, about ten miles above the speed limit. In their area, it was legal. Pushing it, but legal. And still safe. If someone stopped him, he would explain quickly.
“Four minutes, I would say.”
“Alright. Can you stay on with me until you get there?”
“Yes I can. I’m also aware that talking on the phone while driving is technically illegal but my friend here cannot respond himself. I am not looking at the screen I am paying attention to the road.” Techno explained. They kept driving, and he kept trying to get a response out of Tommy. At the moment, he had dropped into unconsciousness again, slumped into the seat.
Finally, they got to the hospital. Techno threw the car into park. Basically ripped the keys out of ignition. Then, he hurried over and he moved over and then scooped Tommy up in his arms. Hurried over to the doors. They opened, and he strode in. Already, some of the doctors were rushing over. Tommy was taken away.
The last Techno saw of him was Tommy being wheeled off in a bed, an oxygen mask pressed to his face and doctors and nurses talking hurriedly.

“This is why we carry Epi-pens.”
Nodding, Techno looked over at Phil. Then, he glanced back to Tommy. He was curled in the bed. Wilbur was on the other side of the bed. Tommy’s parents were next to him, his mother petting Tommy’s hair gently. He wasn’t wrong. Tommy, Techno, Phil, Tommy’s parents, and Wilbur all carried Epi-pens. Speaking of Tommy, the hospital was going to keep him for observation for another night. He had already been there for a little while, sleeping the whole time due to having had several doses of Benadryl and other antihistamines, plus going into anaphylactic shock. He was just tired.
He got to be tired, too. Someone had almost killed him. So, if he was tired, then he got to be tired. Everyone would make sure he was alright.
Eyes opening, Tommy let out a little groan. Obviously, he probably wouldn’t remember it. His eyes were blurred. Blinking, he clumsily shot a thumbs up to Techno. His dad’s hand settled on his arm and immediately he looked over to his dad. He looked a lot better, the hives on his neck having gone down. And immediately, the moment he saw his dad, his eyes lit up like when he saw Shroud the Spider for the first time and had run over to him.
“Daaaaaad.” Tipping his head to the side, Tommy just sort of thunked his head onto his dad’s hand. “Hiiiiii.” His eyes scrunched up a little bit, still smiling brightly. Then, he looked over at his mother. “M uuuum mm. Hiiiii.”
Smiling, Tommy’s mother carded her fingers through his hair. “Hi, Tommy. How do you feel?”
“I’m fiiiine. Sleepy. ” He mumbled. Taking a breath, he closed his eyes for a second. Then, he looked over at Techno. He instantly nudged Techno as best as he could. “You saved my life.”
“I did not.” Techno replied, smiling softly at him. Immediately, Tommy burst out laughing again.
“Yeah you did.” Looking at him, Techno rolled his eyes slightly. “You saved my life, Technoblade. I woulda died.” Weakly, he tried to give Techno a fist bump. “Fist bump. I wanna—bro—“ Techno bumped his knuckles with Tommy. “Yeeeaaahh.” Weakly, he started laughing. Swallowed. “M throat’s sore.”
“Well, they did have to put you on some oxygen mate. That’s why you have this.” Gently, his dad tapped the mask that Tommy had strapped to his face. Then, he leaned over and kissed his son’s forehead. “You’re going to be alright, kid, okay?”
“Mhmm.”
(They did eventually give a severe talking-to to all of the girls involved with Tommy’s little brownie accident.)
(Tommy’s parents also gave Techno a hug for saving their son’s life.)
