Work Text:

“Mrs. Darcy?” The housekeeper stood at the door to the bedchamber.

“Yes, Reynolds?”

“Your sister is arriving.”

“Oh! Wonderful,” she smiled, checking herself once in the mirror before leaving the room to go downstairs, almost running straight into her husband.

“What’s the hurry?” he inquired.

“My sister Lizzie is here,” she told him.

Mr Darcy raised an eyebrow. “Is Bingley here, too?”

“I didn’t ask, but perhaps you can come with me and find out.”

The two walked down to the front hall, arm in arm.

The butler opened the door. “Mrs. Bingley!” he announced.

“Lizzie, it’s so good to see you,” Jane cried, running to the door to meet her sister. “Mr. Darcy wanted to know if Mr. Bingley is here, too.”

“He should be arriving with his sisters in the morning,” Mrs. Bingley told her sister, briefly glancing up. “Hello, Mr. Darcy, how are you?”

“I am well, thank you. I hope you had an agreeable journey?”

“Yes, thank you,” she replied.

“I will leave you two now. Good day.”

“Will you be joining us for dinner?” Jane asked her husband.

“Of course,” he replied. Nodding at Mrs. Bingley before stepping outside.

“Come, Lizzie, let’s go to the parlour,” Jane said.  “Is everything well with everyone? It seems a shame you had to make the journey here alone.”

“Please, don’t worry about me. It was really quite pleasant.  And now I’m here visiting you.”

“It does make me glad that you get along so well with Mr. Darcy. There was a time I worried you would never warm up to him.”
