Work Text:

It was a beautiful day in Sweetwater, the sun was shining, the birds were singing and Ochako's horses broke a leg. Damn. Ochako watched the poor animals writhe and snort in pain and had no choice but to put them out of their misery. Which left her with another problem, the carriage wasn't going to pull itself. She needed new horses. If she was lucky in the town of Sweetwater there would be someone selling horses that weren't too worn out and someone who knew how to put on the reins of course. She was a city noble, she had no idea about horses and her driver well...he was going through an emotional breakdown.

"Don't worry Kirishima, it's better that we kill-put them to sleep, there was nothing else we could do. "Ochako tried to comfort his driver. Kirishima wiped his tears with his shirt sleeve.

"Your manliness will never be forgotten," he said, looking at the horses with a mournful gesture.

"Yeah... um… anyway help me find new horses" She pushed her hair away from her face and fanned herself. "Please"

Sweetwater was not that far away but walking in her dress impractical for traveling on foot took its toll on Ochaco. When she arrived at the town inn her face was red from the effort and sweat ran down every part of her body in heavy drops. She walked up to the counter with her feet killing her, the receptionist greeted her with a smile. "Welcome to The Wild West, the place with the best beds and the most complete breakfasts."

Ochako leaned both elbows on the counter and wiped her forehead with a handkerchief.

"Two rooms please."

The receptionist looked at her and nodded. "For how many nights?" Ochako booked for one night as she figured she wouldn't need more for something as simple as buying some horses.

Once in the room she gave herself a quick sponge bath and changed her dress for some practical pants, a linen shirt and a hat to protect herself from the sun.

Once outside the inn she turned to the first cowboy she saw for instructions. This was a tall, stocky man with olive skin, green hair and scars on his arms.

"Good morning miss, what can I do for you?" The cowboy's smile stretched his bearded face.

"Is there anyone in this town who sells horses to pull a carriage?"

Ochaco noticed that the strange cowboy was still gawking at her. She cleared his throat, this time not from the heat.

"Ah yes that's me the horse man, yes" he scratched the back of his head embarrassed "My name is Midoriya Izuku, but call me Deku that's what my best friend calls me that's not that we are best friends we just met I mean you and me Kacchan and I met in kindergarten but still that's what they call me here and I don't like to be too formal and even less with…"

"Oh so it's you then, perfect I need to buy a couple of horses" Ochako felt bad for interrupting the cowboy but she couldn't stay all day listening to incessant ramblings even from such a handsome cowboy.

"Yes of course, follow me please."

Deku led her to a livery stable on the outskirts of town. A small building with a thatched floor and a small field for the animals to graze. Deku first showed her an American cream the color of golden champagne.

"This bad boy is good for what you are looking for plus he already has experience in dealing with fine ladies like you."

"I must tell you Deku that with me flattery will get you everywhere" Ochaco laughed blushing.

She gave the horse a thumbs up and quickly Deku showed her the second one. A huge brown Breton. He was a beautiful horse and very tame. Ochako stroked his golden mane and marveled at how soft it was.

"I like this one, I'll take him."

"Of course."

When Deku went to put the reins on the horse his hands briefly touched Ochako's which made him blush up to his neck in embarrassment. Ochako just chuckled under her breath.

"I need them ready for tomorrow. Can you do that for me?"

"Ah y-yes."

Ochako laughed again and handed him the money.

"W-wait."

Ochako turned around.

"If you want the horses for tomorrow that means you're staying in town tonight right? I was wondering if you wanted to..."

"Go on a date with you?"

Deku almost lost his composure

"A-Ah that's not--well maybe but I didn't want to say it like that not that I didn't want a date but I didn't know if you'd accept and it's just a dance at the only crappy bar this town has and it's not..."

"I'll be there."

Deku paused.

"It's near the inn where I'm staying over, it's at night isn't it? I'll be there."

Deku smiled at him and Ochako smiled back.

The bar was not very impressive. A bar, a dance floor, a few tables and customers scattered all over the place but it had a good atmosphere, no stench of vomit or anything. Ochako liked it.

"Miss, I don't think this is a good idea."

"Why not, you're here, you'll be my chaperone." Kirishima looked doubtful but Ochako ignored him.

I mean maybe it wasn't very appropriate to go on a date with someone you just met but she had Kirishima there with her and they were in a public place, nothing was going to happen. Ochako checked the surroundings several times for Deku and finally spotted him leaning in a corner talking to a blond guy who kept shouting and fussing and a girl with pink hair and brown skin. As she approached them they fell silent.

"Hey Deku."

There was an awkward silence for a moment and then Deku introduced her to his friends. The blond was named Bakugou Katsuki and the girl was Ashido Mina.

"It's a pleasure, I'm Uraraka Ochako and this is my driver Kirishima Eijiro."

Once the formalities were over they relaxed much more and started chatting with each other. Ashido made fast friends with Kirishima and took him to the dance floor. Bakugou grunted something about going to get drinks and left them alone.

"You want to dance?" she said suddenly.

Deku stammered a yes and taking her hand they slowly made their way to the dance floor. At that moment a lively tune started to play and they danced to the music, moving their bodies without worrying about anything else. But gradually the music became slower and softer and they moved closer. "

Cowboy, I think I'm liking this town more than I thought I would."

Ochako walked up to him and crossed her arms behind her neck. Deku hugged her around the waist. She caressed his face.

"Can I...?"

Ochako nodded and brought their lips closer.

At that moment exactly three things happened. Two of the bar patrons started a fight, people started pulling out guns and Kirishima appeared at her side to take her away from there.

That night Ochako could not sleep thinking about what had almost happened. When dawn came, she had made a decision.

The horses were ready with reins and everything as Deku promised. He was also there waiting for her along with Kirishima. Ochako threw herself into Deku's arms and kissed him and his lips were soft and his mouth warm because he kissed her back. Before she noticed he was hugging her and she was hugging him too.

Someone cleared their throat.

"Uhhmm yeah, sorry but it's time to go" Kirishima said and got into the carriage.

"Goodbye, Deku." Ochako said goodbye with a last kiss and watched Deku's figure walk away down the road.
