Day 7: Bliss

Work Text:

Geralt led them through the corridors of the castle while Jaskier ranted. “Can't believe he lied so much to me, pretended to be my friend. How could he do this to me?”

“Told you he’s a dick. He just used you to get what he wants.” They turned into an empty hallway.

“I feel so betrayed!” Jaskier knew he was being dramatic but he was too agitated right now.

Geralt rubbed his thumb soothingly over his hand and smiled at him. “Don't work yourself up about him, he's not worth it. And you won in the end.”

“Yeah, thanks to you.” Jaskier smiled sheepishly back at him before something dawned at him. “Did you just help me so I’d take you with me on the daytrip?” he asked mockingly.

His roommate huffed. “No, because you deserved it. You have the voice of an angel. But I wouldn't say no if you’d let me come with you.”

“Of course I will, you big ouf. Can't think of anyone I'd rather spend the day with than you.” He could swear Geralt blushed a little at that.

They had stopped in front of an old wooden door and Geralt pulled out an evenly antique looking key while making sure they were alone and unwatched. He unlocked the door and pushed Jaskier through it. He followed him and locked the door back up behind himself.

It was dark in here so they pulled out their phones to light the way. They stood at the foot of a stone spiral staircase. The air around them was cool and dusty.

“Geralt,” Jaskier whispered, “did you steal that key?”

The other boy shrugged and grinned at him. “Some years ago. It’s the only one though and they just think it got lost. Go on.”

Jaskier started to climb up the stairs. He looked down at his phone and felt a heavy weight drop in his stomach. Essi’s picture was still his wallpaper. He sighed and turned the screen off.

“Do you miss her?” Geralt’s voice startled him.

Jaskier swallowed the discomforting feeling down. “Yeah, it was hard at the beginning but… I know she’s better off without me.” At least he hoped so.

He felt Geralt’s warm hand on the small of his back. “Hmm. I’m glad you came here. I’m definitely better off with you. And… I won’t do it again. I promise.”

Jaskier knew what he meant and he was relieved. “Good.”

He didn’t know how many floors they had climbed but eventually the stairs ended in front of another door. Jaskier pushed the old lock bar up and opened the door.

They were on the top of the highest tower of St Winchester. He took a careful step out in the moonlit night, billions of stars twinkling down at him.

“Wow,” he breathed and walked over to the wall to look through the crenel. The blinking lights of the nearby city stretched to the dark horizon. The night was cold and peaceful, no sound reached up here from the wild party several levels below them.

Jaskier shivered in his silk shirt and rubbed his hands over his arms. Geralt came up behind him and wrapped his arms around him, pressing his warm body against his back and brushing their cheeks against each other.

Jaskier’s skin prickled everywhere his body touched Geralt’s. He lay his hands over Geralt’s on his stomach and leaned his head back against the other boy’s shoulder. He took a deep breath and looked up at the stars. “So beautiful.”

“Hmm, yes, you are,” Geralt whispered in his ear.

Jaskier laughed. “Geralt!”

“Jaskier?”

“Stop being so sweet. I’m not used to this,” he tried to hide his nervousness, failing hard.

“If I only knew you were the romantic type earlier…” Geralt held him a little bit tighter and stroked his hand over his waist to his hip.

“Then what?” Jaskier whispered. He tried to stay calm but his heart beat ever faster.

Geralt’s lips brushed over his earlobe. ”I would’ve asked you sooner to come here with me.” Jaskier whimpered and blinked up at the sky. “Jaskier?”

“Hmm?” Geralt turned him around and he hoped it was too dark for him to see how deeply Jaskier blushed.

Geralt cupped his cheek and Jaskier's arms wrapped around his neck. “Can I kiss you?”

“Yes.” He smiled and closed the short distance between them. Geralt’s lips felt perfectly soft against his and for the first time in one year Jaskier felt true bliss.
