To put it simply, John Jun Suh was the luckiest man in the world. No scratch that the whole damn universe. He had a nice home, a good job and great friends. But there was one thing that came above all else in Johnny’s eyes and that was his mate, Yukhei.
Yukhei, who sometimes went by Xuxi or Lucas, depending on who he was with a whirlwind that descended into Johnny’s life and made it so much better.
The pair had met in one of the most random first meetings you could imagine. Johnny was on a work placement in Seoul at the time and had gone to the gym one night to blow off some steam. He had been minding his own business, when a tall man approached him, asking in broken Korean to spot him while he bench pressed. And the rest was history.
Johnny had since moved back to America, now living in a cosy Manhattan apartment. And surprisingly (or not), Yukhei had followed him there. As a successful architect and physical therapist, the pair led a happy life together.
“Yu..Yukhei… you home?” Johnny called as he entered the apartment. The alpha removed his work shoes and padded his way into the living area.
He smiled as he was met with the sound of a Justin Bieber song blasting through the Bluetooth speakers dotted around the room. Johnny sincerely hoped his mate would never change.
“Oh… Hyung … you weren’t supposed to be back for another hour.” the tall omega stopped dead in his tracks upon meeting Johnny in the living area. His plan for this evening involved his mate not returning yet.
“Interrupt something did I” the alpha chuckled at the flustered expression Yukhei wore.
“No… You just surprised me is all” A fat lie, Yuukhei had, in fact, been planning the most perfect evening for Johnny’s birthday. The alpha was supposed to be home at six, just in time for the omega to have everything set up for the small party that was going to happen. And at the end, Yukhei had the most amazing gift for his alpha mate.
Johnny’s closest friends were supposed to be here soon, and the omega would have to think fast in order for the surprise not to be ruined.
Think quickly Yukhei, think. “Oh Hyung.. Would you be able to run to the shops for me? I need some rice cakes and I wasn’t able to get them cause of a delay at work” the omega rambled.
Johnny chuckled at the antics of his mate. Yukhei never failed to make him smile. “Sure love, I’ll be back shortly” He knew the omega didn’t need rice cakes but was obviously looking for a way to get him out of the house.
With Johnny out of the house, Yukhei could finally put the finishing touches to the living room for the impending surprise party.
He was excited to see his friends and for the alpha to be surprised. However, the thing Yukhei was most excited about was his final gift to his mate Johnny. He placed his hand unconsciously on his stomach as he wrapped up the box with a soft blue ribbon.
Just then, Yukhei”s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing. Their friends had finally arrived at the door.
He bounded to the door opening it with a dazzling smile, a Yukhei special as Johnny called it. Ten pushed straight him and made a beeline for the bathroom. A muffled sorry could be heard shortly after.
The rest of the first group, which included Jaehyun, Doyoung, Jungwoo, Taeyong, Kun, Taeil and Suijin filed into the room creating a happy buzz. Yukhei loved his friends and was so happy that they were here, celebrating his mate’s birthday.
“Uncle Yukhei”, a loud voice permeated the air as Taeyoung, Doyoung and Taeyong’s little boy barreled into his legs.
“Hello Tae-Tae, excited for the party hmm” the tall omega chuckled as he hoisted the three-year-old up to his waist.
“Mmmm want cake” he answered gazing up at Yukhei with distinctive boba eyes.
“Cake is his new favourite food” Taeyong answered from the sofa, cradling his large bump. The older omega was currently at the end of his second trimester and was counting down the days until the baby arrived.
“Oh well you are just in luck Tae-Tae, we have a mountain of cake,” Yukhei responded matter of factly. It was true, he had visited the local bakery (also Johnny’s favourite), this morning to collect a rather large coffee cake for the coffee king.
The rest of the group had arrived, greeting Yukhei as they made their way into the living area, engaging in conversation with the others. Their group, which consisted of twenty-three men and one woman were a mix of Asian ex-pats, who had moved to New York and had since merged into one gigantic super-friend-group. Yukhei loved having friends that looked like him and spoke the same languages as him.
The omega’s phone buzzed, informing him that Johnny was on the lift and would be home in a few minutes. The room quietened, waiting for the moment before the door was unlocked ….
“SURPRISE!!”
The look on Johnny’s face was priceless, it was clear he was not expecting this at all.
“What are you all doing here?” he laughed
“Ask your mate, he’s the one who organised it all” Doyoung shouted above the noise.
“My mate” Johnny turned to face the omega, “You organised all this?” he asked softly.
“Yeah, do you like it?” Yukhei enquired bashfully.
“What’s not to love, all my friends here to surprise and celebrate my birthday… it’s perfect” Johnny gushed.
Oh, just you wait Johnny Suh.
The whole party was going off without a hitch. Everyone was having a good time, and Johnny was elated, interacting with all his friends. This was him at his best, a laid back sociable man able to get along with en masse.
Yukhei brought out the cake, and everyone joined in singing a wild happy birthday song , “Neo” style, which their group had been dubbed by Taeyong one day.
“Are you not drinking?” Ten enquired later in the night. Oh no, he’d been caught. Usually by now Yukhei would be on his third beer.
“Nahh not feeling it, sure I’m the host.” he brushed off.
The smaller omega , who was also sober due to also being pregnant, wasn’t convinced, narrowing his eyes as he padded his way over to the sofa beside Taeyong.
Luckily no one noticed he was abstaining from drinking for the rest of the party, and before long their friends were getting ready to go.
The older members were making their way home, while the younger group were heading out to a club. Yukhei swears he heard Jaemin state the plans above the noise of people exiting.
As Doyoung and Taeyong finally left, with a passed out Tae-Tae on Doyoung’s shoulder, the omega breathed a sigh of relief. It was finally time to give Johnny his gift
Johnny was standing in the living area, putting the empty bottles into a black binbag.
“Hyung…I have one more present for you” Yukhei spoke softly, the small blue box behind his back.
“Ahh love, I told you I didn’t need anything else”
“This one is special” the tall omega responded, passing over the box to Johnny.
Now if Johnny’s reaction to the party was amazing to witness, this blew it out of the park in comparison.
“Is this… are you…?” Johnny whispered, to which Yukhei nodded.
“Are we having a baby?” tears glistened in the alpha’s eyes.
“Yeah hyung, you’re going to be a dad”
Johnny grabbed the omega and spun him around, laughter of happiness and emotion permeating the air.
They had been trying for so long, dreamt about it for so long and now it was finally happening.. They were becoming parents. Johnny was over the moon.
John Jun Suh really was the luckiest man alive.
