Work Text:

Kavin’s first encounter with sick Kaning comes almost two months into their relationship when he stops by the flower shop after he receives a text from Kaning telling him she doesn’t feel well.

“Kaning went home early,” Gorya tells him as soon as he walks in. He heaves out a sigh at her words and pulls out his phone to check if Kaning had texted him but there’s nothing. He figures she probably felt so sick, she forgot to message him.

“I’m surprised you’re not nursing her to health, Gorya,” he comments as he slips his phone back into his pocket.

To his immense surprise, Gorya and Gawao share a look and Gorya shakes her head vehemently. “Oh, no, Kaning when she’s sick is not fun to be around.”

“What do you mean?” Kavin quirks an eyebrow at her, there’s not much she wouldn’t do for Kaning (Kavin is most certain that she’d probably even die for her) so he’s more than surprised.

“I mean that when she’s sick, Kaning can be …” Gorya trails off, reluctant to say anything bad about her friend.

“Mean,” Gawao finishes off for her with a pointed look. Kavin expects Gorya to jump in defense of her friend but she only shakes her head in amusement before agreeing.

“Kaning? Mean?” Kavin echoes in disbelief. The two of them nod their heads vigorously and tell him it’s better to leave her alone until she feels better. Kavin just shakes his head and figures they’re overaxggerating — his Kaning is sweet.

She’s home alone when he arrives and he uses Gorya’s spare key to get in. He’s been to her room only once before and when he walks in, he’s met with the sight of a bundled up Kaning.

“Hey,” he leans down slightly and tugs her blanket down so he can at least see her face. “How are you feeling?”

Kaning doesn’t even reply and just pulls her comforter tighter against her frame.

“Kaning?” He coos softly and pats her hair, frowning when he feels that it’s damp with sweat.

“Go away,” she grumbles and slaps his hand away before turning around so she’s on her side, facing away from him. Kavin blinks in surprise.

“I made you soup,” he didn’t really make it himself but he was there while his chef made it so it kind of counts.

“Just leave it on the table and I'll eat it later,” she sticks her hand out from under her blanket and shoos him away. “Close the door when you leave.”

“C’mon you need to eat,” he tries once more and attempts to turn her over by her shoulder. “Do you want me to feed you?”

Kaning looks over her shoulder at him and glares at him. “I want to sleep but it’s hard when you keep pestering me!”

She doesn’t say another word and just shoves her head under her pillow. Maybe if it were anyone else, he might’ve been annoyed but with her, he just finds it strangely endearing that she’s such a firecracker even when she’s sick.

Despite himself, Kavin smiles and just sits on the ground next to her bed.

Hours later, when she finally comes out of her deep slumber, she makes a noise of surprise when she sees him beside her bed.

“You stayed?” She rubs her eye blearily and slowly sits up so she can lean against her headboard.

“Of course I did,” he stands up and pushes her hair out of her face. “Are you done being grumpy?”

She flushes redder and he laughs when she weakly shoves him.

Drunk kaning is hands down one of his favourite versions of her; she’s uncharacteristically clingy and whiny.

After Ren’s birthday, she’s red faced and swaying as Gorya tries to coax her into the car. However, instead of being cooperative, Kaning tries to wiggle her way out of her friend’s hold so she can run back to Kavin. He’d walked her and Gorya to the gate but Gorya had insisted that he stay put so Kaning didn’t try to convince him to let her stay longer (she had a curfew).

Drunk Kaning is surprisingly strong and manages to weasel her way away from her friend.

“Kavin! Help!” Gorya calls out to him and beckons him over quickly; he jogs over to them and takes the squirming Kaning into his arms. He wraps an arm around her waist and carries her towards the car that Thyme had arranged for the two of them.

“It’s hometime sweetheart,” he laughs as she fruitlessly tries to get out of his grip.

“I don’t want to go home,” she shakes her head and kicks out.

“Your dad will be mad if you get home late,” he reminds her gently as he places her back down on her feet. He knows that she needs to go home but still, a huge chunk of him wants to take her to his home.

He’s about to put her into the backseat but then she presses her hands against his chest.

“I want to stay with you,” she peers up at him through her lashes and his mind goes blank.

“Kaning,” Gorya groans from behind them.

“Can’t I stay with you?” Kaning flutters her long lashes up at him.

“I — okay,” Kavin nods dumbly and starts pulling her closer towards him. It’s hard enough to say no to her on a normal day but the way she stares up at him cutely makes her impossible to deny.

“Kavin! Kaning!” It’s Gorya that snaps him out of his daze when she pulls her friend back. “Let’s go — your dad will kill kavin if you go home with him tonight.”

“Please,” Kaning pouts and reaches out for Kavin again and he thinks that being on the receiving end of one of Gorya’s famous kicks would be worth it if he could keep Kaning.

“Gorya,” he tries to wheedle but he’s immediately shot down with an icy look.

He sighs deeply and looks at Kaning with an apologetic gaze before he pulls her into a hug. “You gotta go home with Gorya.”

“You don’t want me?” Her voice is thick and he knows without looking that she’s probably tearing up and he knows that it’s just her drunken habit to cry but still, he hates making her cry.

“No! I do! Don’t cry baby — of course I do,” he assures her and wipes her damp eyes with his fingers.

She doesn’t reply and so he frames her face with his hands and pressed his forehead against hers.

“Trust me, I do,” he tells her emphatically. “I just don’t want you to get in trouble and I don't want your dad to hate me. I'll be there at your house to pick you up first thing tomorrow morning.”

“You promise?” She pouts cutely.

“I promise,” he swears and leans down to press a short kiss against her lips.

When he pulls away, he looks back at Gorya; she’s looking at them with a disgusted expression on her face. “Are me and Thyme this sappy?”

“You two are worse,” he teases her and reaches out to ruffle her head. He ushers the girls into the car and smiles at them as they lean into each other, both exhausted from the night’s events. “Text me when you’re home!”

“Whatever!” Gorya pokes her tongue out at him and closes the door.

Petty Kaning rarely comes out but when she does, it’s always fun to witness (unless her target is Kavin, then he’s less than amused).

One lazy afternoon, it’s Thyme that is on the receiving end. The couple are watching a random action movie (Kaning’s favourite genre) in Kavin’s entertainment room when Thyme barges in, pulling a clothes rack behind him.

“There you are, Kaning!” He exclaims excitedly and Kavin rolls his eyes and reaches around Kaning to pause the movie.

Months ago, Kaning would’ve jumped off his lap in embarrassment (she’s never been a fan of PDA) but they’ve been together long enough that she stays against his chest.

“Thyme, I told you just to text me photos,” Kaning huffs as she eyes the clothes. Ever since she’d helped Thyme pick a gift for Gorya (nearly an entire year ago), Kaning has become something akin to Thyme’s personal assistant. He comes to her for everything, including what to wear on his dates.

“Yes but this is important,” he insists as he pulls two near identical suits. “It’s our anniversary. I need to pick a good suit.”

“Don’t you have helpers for this?” Kavin complains as he buries his head into his girlfriend’s neck.

“Kaning, you said you’d help me!”

“When I’m not busy,” she reminds him with a pointed look and he has the decency to look guilty for only a moment.

“You call watching movies with your boyfriend busy?” Thyme argues back and Kavin is familiar enough with their usual bickering that he doesn’t bother intervening (if Gorya and Thyme argue like an old married couple then Thyme and Kaning argue like siblings).

After a few minutes of back and forth, Kaning finally clicks her tongue in annoyance before she folds her arms and gives in. “Fine.”

There’s a certain edge to her tone that Kavin immediately picks up on and he meets her eyes. She winks at him.

“Okay put on that suit,” she decides as she runs her fingers through Kavin’s hair absentmindedly.

Thyme does as he’s told and comes out wearing the classic black suit.

“Hmm,” Kaning taps her chin thoughtfully. “Twirl.”

Thyme makes a face, “stop joking around!”

“I’m not,” Kaning shakes her head and twirls her fingers. “C’mon, I wanna see the back too!”

He does as told but is glaring daggers at her while he does. Kavin has his face in Kaning’s neck so Thyme can’t see his amusement.

“Actually try the other one,” she points at the white tuxedo hanging on the rack.

He’s barely stepped back into the room in theoutfit when Kaning shakes her head again.“No, the first one again.”

He changes once more.

Kaning makes his switch between the two outfits four more times then she has him try on a myriad of ridiculous combinations. Half an hour into their mini-fashion show Thyme realises she’s messing with him.

“Kaning!”

“Don’t yell at my girlfriend,” Kavin throws the nearest cushion at his friend and chuckles when it hits him square in the face.

“Tell her to help me properly,” Thyme demands as he loosens the bright yellow tie around his neck.

“No, you shouldn’t have interrupted our movie night,” Kavin says and quickly lifts Kaning up and flips them over so he’s hovering over her. He nuzzles her cheek and she lets out a series of giggles. “You’re so cute when you’re mean.”

“Hey!” Thyme tries to get their attention but neither of them are very interested in listening to him.

“Get out,” Kavin tells him as he tickles Kaning, smug when she lets out loud peals of laughter. Neither of them give Thyme a second glance.

“You two are an evil couple,” Thyme squints his eyes at them before he leaves the room in a huff.

Their laughs echo in the hallway.

There are a hundred different sides to her — mischievous Kaning (who comes out the most when she’s with Gorya), flirty Kaning (she’s the only person who can ever fluster him and for said reasons, is MJ’s favorite version of her), sleepy Kaning (Ren’s favourite) and so many more sides of her that he discovers.

And Kavin loves every single one of them.
