Chapter Text
Changkyun loves flowers. He has a large amount of flower fields behind his house. Every weekend, he always wanders around town or nearby village to find new flowers to add into his collections. There are already roses, tulips, sunflowers, daffodils, you name it, he must have most of it already. Hence, even his first tattoo he ever had is roses.
This weekend, Changkyun prepared his car to begin his adventure. No one knows why, even when he wanders without a set destination in mind, he’ll end up in a forest, field, or a new flower shop that has the kind of flower he hasn’t had, no matter what. Changkyun is excited, because, next week is an important week to him. Valentine. He loves valentine. It’s not an annual thing to him, but if he could, and when he found a set of new flowers and many of them, he will pick lots and giving flowers to people he’ll meet on valentine’s day. He thinks, he’s gonna spread love to everyone in a form of flowers on that loving day.
“Going out again, Kyun?” His housemate, Minhyuk, knows Changkyun’s habit very well. “Where to, this time?”
“Hyung! I don’t know you wake up already,” Changkyun walks into their kitchen and starts making coffee for both of them. “I just want to wander somewhere, you know, to find some place new,” he explains.
“Don’t you afraid of getting lost? I am though. My sense of directions is terrible,” Changkyun laughs. “Hey, don’t laugh at me! It’s not funny,” Minhyuk sulks, “and a lot of people have the same problem as me!”
“I’m not making fun of you, hyung! You talk like you don’t know me for a very long time. Maybe this flower goddess directs me to find a new flower to take care of, and I never get lost!” he hands Minhyuk his mug.
“Your imagination is wild, Kyun,” Minhyuk said.
“Anyway, why are you up so early? Do you have a date, hyung?” Minhyuk smiles at the younger and nodded.
“Hyunwoo is going to introduce me to his parents! Today! Can you believe it? After 2 years, finally… I’m kinda nervous,”
“Wow, it’s rare to see you nervous. What are you waiting for? Go shower! You can’t be stink if you wanna meet your parents-in-law!” Changkyun pulls Minhyuk from the sofa to stand up and push him to the direction of their shared bathroom.
“You – “
“And I promise you, if I indeed found new flowers, I’ll make a special bucket for you to be gifted to Hyunwoo’s hyung parents! Happy? Now go shower!” the younger cuts Minhyuk before he can say anything and this statements from him make the older smile wider.
“You’re the best, Kyun! I can’t believe you’re still single if you’re this perfect,” Minhyuk chirps.
“What can I say, Hyunwoo hyung is ahead of me,” said Changkyun and Minhyuk freezes. “Hyung? Are you okay? Do you really think it’s true? Come on, you’re better than that!” Changkyun laughs so much until tears come down his eyes. “Your expression is hilarious, hyung!”
“Don’t play with me, Im Changkyun!” finally Minhyuk enters the bathroom. “Oh, and on Valentine’s night, I want to take you to a blind date with one of Hyunwoo’s friend! I’m not taking a no! Accept it, at least this once, okay?”
Changkyun is surprised, really. “What? How? Why don’t you talk about it to me first? Hyung!” Minhyuk is not answering, he can only hears the shower has turned on.
“Aish, this hyung,”
To be very honest, Changkyun was having a crush to his housemate a long time ago. Well, it’s 5 years ago, to be exact. His love to flowers starts to bloom because of Minhyuk. 5 years ago, when his mother passed away, Minhyuk gave him flower to cheer him up, and said he deserved to be loved, and hyung would be his protector forever. That’s why he became his housemate. Changkyun laughs. He knows it’s just an adoration, not love. So now, he’s happy that he has a very caring best friend who had his own protector, Hyunwoo. Changkyun always think that they are the best couple because they complement each other. Hyunwoo is a calm sea, while Minhyuk is a hurricane. Changkyun is happy for them, really. But both of them could be a pain in the ass because they always introduce him to people, to date. It always Minhyuk’s idea, and Hyunwoo is a yes man to him.
Changkyun hears the shower had been turned off.
“Hyung, I’m going! Please close the garage for me later!” he shouts.
“Oki! Be careful on the way wherever it is!”
Changkyun opens the garage door and starts to drive. He decides to going east today. On his way, he tunes in into a radio show. They talk about love, since it’s valentine next Monday.
Well, this segment is called love at the first sight! Now I will read a story from Lululala-nim:
“Hello! I’m a 36 years-old happy married woman with 2 children. I am a believer of love at first sight because I’m a living proof of it! In my twenties, I love travelling between cities and visited a lot of museums since I love history. One time, I visited Daegu Art Museum. When I arrived there, I saw a man standing in front of a landscape painting, a very beautiful painting, my taste. So I went there, standing beside the man and adoring the painting. After a minute or two, he said to me: “Beautiful, isn’t it?” I turned into the voice and saw the most beautiful human being I ever met in my life, and I answered: “Yes, you are” then we stood there awkwardly, then he started to giggle and I did too! Since that time I know that I’m gonna spend my entire life with this man. We’re married for 10 years already!
Woah… Lululala-nim, what a beautiful met story! I hope your family always be surrounded by happiness years ahead! Now into a different story….
Changkyun chuckles. The rest of the radio is just noises to Changkyun, to accompany him to a long ride. He never believes in love at a first sight. Because he thinks that you have to be knew the person thoroughly before you can say that you love him, her, or them. He believes that the feeling of butterflies in your stomach when you see someone is just some form of attractiveness, or adoration, just like he felt to Minhyuk years ago.
“Is it really a thing? Love at the first sight?” Changkyun talks to himself. This radio show is still going for an hour and a half, just reading some met stories from a bunch of couples, most of them claiming that their meetings are love at the first sight, that they believe the other person is the one for them. When the show finished, Changkyun also stopped the car. He noticed a hut on the side of the road and decided that he wanted to rest for a bit there. Feel the breeze. Turns out he is heading to a beach area.
“Okay... let’s snack in here,” Changkyun is unfolding a picnic blanket that he brought before, just not to stain the hut. He is responsible, you know. He takes a deep breath, enjoying the cleanliness of the air, and a quiet road before him. Not that quiet though, just one or two cars every five minutes. Changkyun stares at the road for a long time, until he noticed an obscured path covered by grasses. No one will know that there is a path leading to somewhere if they’re not paying too much attention to it. Changkyun’s intuition feels like he will find a gem if he follows the path. So he packs his picnic blankets, parks his car in a safer way, in a field that is enough for the area of one car, beside the hut. He takes the bag that full of his gardening tool, to transfer flowers whenever he found a new wild flower.
Birds chirping, grass as tall as his waist, and a cool breeze accompanying Changkyun to follow the path. It looks like it’s going nowhere, really. But Changkyun is still confident that this path leads to something bigger than it usually would. It’s not that sunny too, it’s a cloudy morning-to-noon time, so it’s not uncomfortable at all to walk some distances. A good work out, actually. So Changkyun keeps walking and walking, until he sees a beautiful land of purple. Purple flowers.
