Work Text:
one lazy sunday morning after a night of clubbing with the other guys, daehyeon woke up groggily beside a sleeping donghan who was curled up underneath the blankets, sheets pulled up to his chin. memories of last night flooded through daehyeon's fuzzy mind; getting home late, stumbling into the shower together, giggles and lots of soft kisses, donghan scooping him up bridal style and spooning him in bed. his heart fluttered as a soft sigh escaped his lips, looking down at the younger male with a lazy smile.
in fear of waking him up, daehyeon decided against stroking his lover's nose or pushing his dark hair away from his face. instead, he rose from his side of the bed and tried to put the covers back down flat as best he could.
daehyeon automatically headed into the bathroom which was as small as expected for a shared apartment in seoul, but in a cute sort of way. just seeing donghan's collection of soaps and face washes in the cabinet made him feel all warm inside. they had been living together for a few months now after dating for a couple of years and he couldn't remember anytime before being with donghan that he had felt as ecstatic as he did right now.
much to his dismay, his face was all puffy from the night before, making him groan quietly behind his hands. whenever he went out with donghan and the others he seemed to have a habit of showing off just how much he could drink as the oldest, and everytime he regretted it the next day.
he quickly freshened up a little and cleaned his teeth before the kitchen beckoned him for coffee. they had this amazing little coffee machine that made really good espresso, and even though donghan was more of a tea person he sometimes took a liking to it as well. while waiting for his coffee to brew, daehyeon quenched his hangover dehydration by gulping down a glass of water.
a sip of his coffee—one sugar, hold the milk—was enough to give him a little bit of a morning buzz. daehyeon leaned against the kitchen counter and looked outside at the city below, as well as the han river in the distance. sometimes if he glanced down there for long enough he felt as though he might fall, and donghan always liked to tease him about it by making him jump when he was standing right in front of the window.
donghan was a little shit sometimes, but he was HIS little shit, and that's all that mattered.
he reached for the radio on the side and clicked it on, switching to his usual channel with chill blues and jazz music. there was something charming about using a radio in this modern day and age; daehyeon rather liked vintage and nostalgic items.
before he got too lost in the music and the view, daehyeon set his coffee aside to start making breakfast for the two of them. he thought that steamed eggs and toast would be a nice sunday food to have after such a wild night. he retrieved the eggs from the fridge with no challenge, but when it came to the bread.. he realised it was right at the top of the cupboard where he couldn't reach without a struggle.
now, the man wasn't exactly tiny, but he was quite a bit shorter than donghan who was basically a giant. at least to him. whenever donghan teased him for being small, daehyeon had to bite back and say it was actually that donghan was too tall, and his own height was perfectly average.
the blue-haired let out a huff as he tried to reach normally and felt like crying when his hand barely slapped the bottom of the shelf. he tried again, this time standing on his tiptoes, and could feel his fingertips grazing the edge of the plastic-
"babe, let me help." an amused tone of voice was heard and a large shape suddenly appeared from behind him, making daehyeon jump a little and then relax as soon as his slow morning brain processed that it was his boyfriend and not some intruder with an odd habit of calling strangers by affectionate petnames.
"i almost had it..." daehyeon moved to the side with a pout, crossing his arms over his chest. "seriously."
"uh-huh, very serious." donghan nodded as if he was trying his best to be sincere, but he could never hide that puppy smile of his. normally, daehyeon loved to see him smile, but here he knew it was a sign of defeat.
well, at least he had got the bread down for him. it was now sitting on the counter next to the eggs and his coffee, which donghan sipped before making a wrinkled face of displeasure at the bitter taste.
"ha!" daehyeon pointed at him, giggling softly and yet somewhat evily. THAT'S what he got for stealing his coffee!
after the male recovered from shock, he moved closer to run his hand through daehyeon's messy hair. "did you sleep okay?" his deep morning voice never decreased in its appeal no matter how many mornings they spent in each other's presence.
"mmh, did you?" like the hopeless fool in love that he was, he leaned his head into donghan's touch, watching him nod in confirmation that he had in fact slept well too. it was a relief to hear, although he had been expecting as much since they'd both been drunk and fatigued when they got home.
'a sunday kind of love' by etta james started to play on the radio—rather appropriate for their current situation. it was actually one of daehyeon's favourites and donghan knew it too. he looked at his soulmate with a grin, wiggling his eyebrows a little, and reaching out his hands for him to take.
daehyeon whined a little as he wasn't sure if he was really in the mood for dancing, but he could never say no to donghan's sparkling eyes. he let his palms fall flat against his and the dark-haired span him around the kitchen before pulling him in close, one hand twirling him in a circle above his head before the other rested on his waist. there were still tingles there even now, after months of flushed cheeks and hesitant contact before they started dating, and all the familiar touches that came later.
daehyeon sighed blissfully and allowed himself to be swept up in the music and donghan's charms. nobody could make him feel the way that he did. the shorter rested his head on his shoulder as donghan guided him slowly in a little square shape on the floor. a pair of lips left a sweet kiss on top of his head, then another just above his ear, and soon daehyeon felt like he could turn into a puddle on the floor at any moment.
"how did i ever get so lucky?" donghan mumbled as he squeezed his hand, fingers intertwined like sewing in fabric.
the blue-haired lifted his head from his shoulder to look at him, the corners of his eyes creasing and almost completely vanishing as he smiled. "you sweet talker~"
"it's a genuine question!" donghan laughed and daehyeon could feel the vibrations from where he was close to his chest. his laughter was one of his favourites sounds, as cliché as it was. donghan never held back his laughter like daehyeon sometimes did; he wasn't afraid to be vulnerable and raw with his emotions. that was something so admirable about him that he's noticed from the day they first met back in college.
"well.." he paused to think, trying to phrase it properly in his head. "maybe someone special is looking out for you, and they knew that an angel deserved one of the slightly better humans."
donghan's tender expression turned to one of flustered surprise at being called an angel so suddenly, his eyelashes fluttering and chin pulled back to look at daehyeon, who laughed heartily at his funny reaction.
they had slowly come to a pause in their dancing as the song had changed and were standing close to each other, daehyeon's arms draped over his shoulders and donghan's arms wrapped around his waist securely. there was a mutual attention to each other's lips as donghan grinned and leaned down to give daehyeon exactly what he wanted but felt too shy to ask for. he returned the kiss lovingly, feeling donghan's hand cupping his cheek and his legs turn to jelly. an equally slow and romantic jazz song played on the low in the background as they smiled into the lingering kiss before pulling apart, though their foreheads still touched and noses brushed.
"i love you so much." daehyeon breathed against his face, closing his eyes to relish in what was hopefully one of many cosy sunday mornings with the latter.
"i love you too. obviously." the dark-haired pecked the tip of his nose and, in that moment, all was right in the world.
"do you want to make breakfast?" donghan asked as he pulled back slightly to look at him.
ah, yes. daehyeon had completely forgotten about breakfast.
