Chapter Text
headcanon 1: the second time atsumu takes inspiration from you
- at some point, atsumu lands a role to play a teacher
- one of his co-stars is a really annoying dude who’s been consistently been rejected from roles atsumu was eventually selected to play, and has a huge inferiority complex/one-sided rivalry thing kinda going on with him
- so when atsumu has to play a teacher and is also the main male lead, the co-star keeps making jabs at his intellect. goes on and on about how he must have seduced his teachers or paid his way through school for a fake degree
- and atsumu kinda just rolls his eyes and doesn’t think about, um, how the former suggestion hits a little too close to home
- but ANYWAY
- (he grew out of that a long time ago, you can attest to that)
- so he just doesn’t humour the guy, ignores him, flashes him condescending smiles, borrows your general demeanour and thinks of you every time he is tempted to absolutely destroy him.
- unfortunately, to the director, who hasn’t worked with atsumu since his really arrogant, argumentative days, the general silence must come off as insecurity because even the director talks to him to ask if he’s lacking confidence in playing the role
- but ohoho guess what
- this silence? it comes from maturity.
- atsumu kinda stares ahead with a vague smirk growing on his face, maybe even slides on metaphorical cool guy sunglasses, dramatic music building in the background as he runs a hand through his hair, tells the director “I got this.” all cool-like, drum and violin superhero background music swelling in the background as he makes his exaggerated swaggering exit through the door—
- cut to a scene of you and atsumu at a quiet dinner table that night, half-empty plates pushed away to make space for books as you patiently explain teacher stuff to him.
- his reading glasses have been whipped out for the occasion, he’s in sweats, you’re in your usual house shorts, and you’re currently going through the topic he’s supposed to be teaching while also explaining common mannerisms/actions that real teachers often use
- you slowly talk him through stuff, and his hands are sort of just gently brushing yours over the books.
- once in a while you’ll look up to check up on him with a sweet little smile, and he’s nodding and humming like the way he used to back in the day when you were still getting together, and he’s attentively listening
- or… not so attentively, because he actually finds you really attractive when you’re teaching and talking passionately about stuff, but… eh. he gets most of it down. enough, anyway.
- him: “thanks babe. you’re the best.”
- you: “eh, no problem. you get it now though?”
- him: “uhhh… ahaha well here’s the thing”
- it’s a wonder atsumu managed to do well in your class
- anyway atsumu borrows a lot of things he notices about you because his character actually has a really similar demeanour to yours, and he absolutely KILLS it during filming!! the director’s hella impressed like miya atsumu who are you brother!
- his co-star eventually approaches him to be like… sorry man. I underestimated you, you really were good and I have a lot to learn from you
- and atsumu’s doing his little modesty thing he learnt from you, being like, yeah, it’s okay
- and then his weird little co-star is kinda looking out the window, running a hand through his hair thoughtfully. he squints. “actually, you reminded me a lot of one of my old teachers i had a HUGE thing for, so A-plus for realism”
- atsumu can’t believe what he’s hearing. slowly, he looks at him, figurative sunglasses sliding down his nose in disbelief.
- and then, quickly, atsumu throws out a hasty apology before whipping out his phone and furiously typing to you: hey, if you ever come visit me, avoid [co-star’s name]. he’s super weird.
- a couple minutes later, you fire back a simple message: 👌🏼😎
- atsumu can’t help but smile
- and then, another message: oh btw what does this guy look like? i have no idea who he is
- and then atsumu’s smirking, fingers clenched into a victory fist.
- that’s my girl, he thinks, typing out a sweet no worries see you soon! message as he gives the guy the most condescending smile he can muster
- you don’t even know it but you’ve already lost, he inwardly snickers at the confused guy, pocketing his phone and looking forward to the time he’ll next get to see you (\ ᵔ▽ᵔ)/
headcanon 2: secret siblings…? (*゚ロ゚)
- shortly after releasing sword and sign, he’s selected to act in a sort of sentimental romance TV show as the main male lead - sort of 500 days of summer/la la land style, but a TV show
- they said it was the perfect combination of his usual romantic charm and the newly discovered sensitivity to his acting
- and the actress acting as the female lead across from him?
- kita shinsuke’s fiancé.
- season 1 comes out and people absolutely love it. it’s wildly successful but tbh, every time they have to kiss and atsumu pulls away, he channels EVERYTHING into hiding the slight fear in his eyes as he imagines in fear kita sans face just kind of… there… hovering… watching……..
- anyway he and kita’s fiancé get along pretty well. they’re always bickering like school children and the production team has a huuuge laugh out of seeing them argue and then be wildly in love the moment they start recording
- like: “miya atsumu, i don’t know how your girlfriend’s still with you whilst you parade around with that horrible thing you have the audacity to call hair.”
- “hey, she freaking loves my hair! and what are you talking about! your hair is blue!”
- “yeah, and shinsuke compliments it all the time! ok, listen. has your girlfriend ever suggested dyeing your hair black? yeah? mhm, that’s the hard truth buddy, sorry i had to break it to ya like this! not my fault the girl’s just too sweet to tell you!”
- “how dare you—!”
- the producers: “guys, we’re rolling in three, two, one.”
- atsumu, immediately, dropping his voice into a low whisper: “i know it sounds crazy but i can’t stop thinking about the night we kissed. you drive me crazy.”
- the production team: desperately stifling their laughter
- one day, as they’re preparing for the second season, they’re lounging around and resting while the production team assembles some stuff and kita’s fiancé nudges his shoulder the exact opposite way of how you do it: very not gently
- atsumu, who was taking a sip out of his water bottle, nearly chokes.
- (he closes his eyes, imagines you, and then thinks: oh, i miss you so much…)
- anyway kita’s fiancé is looking at him rather seriously. “hey, miya,” she says. “i’ve been wanting to ask you this for a while, and i figure we’ve worked together long enough for you to not be too offended by it.”
- atsumu raises his eyebrows, wiping off some of the remaining water from his chin.
- “I mean, not tryna say anything, but did you know that shin, like, he doesn’t get jealous at all? does that happen with your girlfriend?”
- and atsumu nearly squeezes the bottle so tight out of shock it bursts.
- but then the two of them really sit on it, think about it, rather seriously, the quietest and most cooperative the stylists have seen them in a long time. just brooding on it, deeply troubled.
- they’re like yeah. we’re like kissing and saying the most gut-wrenching things to each other but they insist on watching the show to support us and then they’re just being SUPPORTIVE
- her: “shinsuke’s just complimenting me, telling me i look extra pretty in this shot, asking, oh, how did you decide on delivering the line this way”
- atsumu: “she’s just so engaged in the film, and when it’s over she just looks at me all adorable and delighted and will go on a spiel about how talented i am…”
- they look at each other, truly stumped. huh.
- and then, all of a sudden, the door opens, bright light spilling into the room, and oh, oh! it’s you through the door! (along with one kita shinsuke)
- and the two of you are talking in such measured, dulcet tones, smiling in that calm way with your eyes kinda curled, you say something that makes kita laugh, and in the light of the studio you both seem too alike.
- atsumu and kita’s fiancé immediately turn to stare at each other, wide-eyed.
- “i think they’re long lost siblings,” she whispers.
- “that kinda freaks me out,” atsumu whispers back.
- but before long, you’re nearing, and everything kind of disappears as you hold out your arms and grin at him as he pulls you into a hug.
(i wrote this after realising how similarly the innate character traits of y/n and kita are and i, too, kinda just stared wide-eyed and thought… huh. i did not realise it earlier but did i just create an alternate kita shinsuke? the determination, the sense of duty, the calmness. uh………)
headcanon 3: how NOBODY will let atsumu’s saying-your-name-while-kissing-another-girl thing slide (“it was ONE time guys”)
- the first time it was still OK. you made the joke and atsumu was pleased enough with you to let it go.
“How was your day?” You murmur, wrapping your arms around his waist.
“Eh, not the best,” he says, leaning down to give you a little peck on your forehead.
The satisfied little grin you flash as he kisses you is really very cute, he thinks. You glance up, and there’s a playful little glint in your eye. “Why, did you have to say my name to get in the mood to kiss someone today?”
Atsumu takes a dramatic step back, holding you by your shoulders. He widens his eyes and cocks his head. “You did not just say that to me.”
“I totally did.” You nod, looking just a bit too proud of yourself.
He lifts a hand to pinch his nose in alarm. “From where did you learn to be so mean?”
“From the best,” you quip back, nudging his side gently. Your eyes are curled into crescents. “That was pretty funny, huh?”
Atsumu shakes his head, tugging you in again by the waist and looking at you straight in the eyes. “You’re so lucky I love you.”
You give a little hum, stepping into his chest and giving him a gentle hug. “Yeah, I know.”
- but then it keeps. happening.
- he hears it once from miwa, then osamu breaks it out during a dinner with their PARENTS when they ask about you, and then even KITA makes the joke once!
- the last straw comes when he and osamu are on set again to recreate a really old comedy movie they did (one of those ones where a huge part of the joke was that they were twins)
- and in it, atsumu has to re-enact this really awkward kiss with this other actress he really does not like.
- in the past, she’s tried to hit on him then spread some really terrible gossip about him, has accused him of feeling up women (thankfully, those charges were fully and rightly cleared!), has belittled osamu for stepping out of the industry, has even tried to touch him inappropriately even after he’s made his boundaries abundantly clear
- so yeah, he hates her and so he’s hella irritable about it today
- he’s complaining to osamu about it just as they’re about to step on set, and then osamu looks at him with that look that atsumu’s come to sense as a dangerous one, and he’s saying:
- “oh, should i call y/n then? will that help?”
- “‘samu, shut up—”
- “you can give her a little kiss and it’ll make everything OK—”
- atsumu looks at him, drawing a fist backward, and then…
- well, if there’s one place his pettiness and quick temper hasn’t worn off, it’s with osamu
- (the stylists get so mad at them for getting into a fight cos they have to go back and redo their hair all grumpy like little children)
- and atsumu’s right. the kiss is truly dreadful. the woman keeps making inappropriate comments to him and the whole ordeal of being yelled at and being made fun of by samu then having to do that kiss has just really ruined his day.
- …thankfully, osamu actually really has called you. by the time the scene’s over, and you’ve rushed over after work, you’re slightly flustered and all like “osamu-kun, you said emergency? where? what emergency?”
- and osamu just juts a finger in a scowling atsumu’s direction, who absolutely lights up when he sees you! it’s you!!! come to save him from this terrible pretentious hell
- unfortunately, as you go to him, a certain shadow begins to walk your way—
- and it’s her. the woman from earlier.
- and atsumu instinctively sidles up to you, protectively putting an arm around your waist as the woman starts mouthing off at you - insinuating that you took advantage of him back in their school days, saying suggestive things about the kiss that just happened, as if atsumu would ever go for her
- and atsumu’s already opening his mouth to retort when you lay a soft hand on his chest and send him a reassuring look
- then you’re flashing the actress one of your trademark polite, sweet smiles, tilting your head, that innocent look in your eyes as you ask:
- “sorry, who are you?”
- (y/n’s superpower: the *blink blink polite smile* “sorry, and who might you be?”)
- the woman just about explodes. she’s standing there, gaping, kind of searching for the right words, and you neatly take her silence as an opportunity to turn back to atsumu and he’s looking at you curiously
- and then, suddenly, you’re KISSING him. you’re usually pretty gentle, or at least gradual, but now your fingers are twisted firmly in his hair and you’re kissing him, hard, and by the time the both of you break apart you’re both more than a little breathless.
- it’s so out of character for you that even atsumu is blinking at you, slightly shocked.
- and then you’re turning back to the woman, with such a genuine expression of surprise that atsumu is squinting at you, trying to figure out if you’re for real.
- (because either you’re being very strange or you’re actually a very good actor.)
- “oh, you’re still there? i thought you’d left already.” then you look down with a shyness that’s strange for the situation. “sorry, i was just really excited to see my boyfriend. have you two met before?”
- and then you’re leaning in with another soft and passionate kiss and atsumu is, yes, shocked, but MORE than happy to oblige
- before finally she stalks off, flustered and confused
- and then you drop your head into atsumu’s chest murmuring something about how your heart is beating so quick you can’t believe you just did that and atsumu’s kinda laughing at you, still confused
- “hey, what was that?” he asks, leaning down to glance at you.
- you look up at him, a guilty look plastered all over your face. “sorry. I know I don’t usually explode like that but I read about all the stuff she’s done to you and your family and something in me just snapped. ugh, and you’ll be working with her still, i’m so sorry…”
- little do you know that atsumu’s just looking at you with wonder and admiration sparkling in his eyes
- your head: oh crap crap shouldn’t have done that
- atsumu’s brain: wow, my girlfriend is so hot.
headcanon 4: meeting the parents (or re-meeting them)
- so at some point you go meet atsumu’s parents, and wow. they absolutely LOVE you.
- you, sitting there, a little nervous but smiling and pretty as always: thank you so much for the meal mrs miya! it was delicious!
- mother miya: oh you SWEETHEART you are so kind. THANK you for dating atsumu. i was so worried about the way he would turn out to be honest
- atsumu: mom please
- mother miya: if you ever have any grievances, come to me first! we can complain about him together!
- you, joking: thanks for the offer mrs miya. don’t worry, osamu-kun and i already do that all the time
- mother miya, nearly tearing: she’s funny too. ATSUMU you better not mess this up boy!!!!
- but, oh boy, does the real challenge come from meeting your father.
- actually, atsumu doesn’t mind it — for someone who never thought he’d be the family dinner kinda guy, he really enjoys spending time with your dad
- he’s really cool and funny and always dropping either the sickest burns or sickest lines of wisdom
- the three of you like to watch movies together, and privately atsumu wonders if it’s your and your dad’s way of paying homage to your mother, because you’re always watching shows she used to like, and he feels actually really grateful and touched to be included in something so intimate
- but damn does it include some close calls.
- one night the three of you decide to watch a movie as usual, and atsumu’s like. okay. hehe. time to flex some of that actor knowledge
- but oh boy… does it all go down the drain the MOMENT he sees the little DVD set in your father’s hand and that mischievous look on your dad’s face
- atsumu, feeling all the colour drain from his face: sir please no. not that movie. not my trashy kissing lessons romance movie NOT THAT ONE SIR PLEASE
- eventually he’s lunging for the dvd—your father is surprisingly nimble for someone of his age—before he finally gets it and immediately tosses it out the window and waits breathlessly for your return
- you, entering the room to find sheer chaos after stepping out to get popcorn: uh
- your father: oh, sweetie, you came just in time for us to watch that old movie your mother liked with that kita man. let’s go
- you: dad why does atsumu look like he’s on the brink of death
- your father, shrugging, sliding the dvd into the player: does he? i hadn’t noticed
- (you do eventually wrestle the story out of atsumu though and insist on watching that horrible, trashy kissing lessons movie during one of your dates. you laugh at atsumu to his face the whole way through and he rolls his eyes but privately thinks that he’s never heard a sound more beautiful (*´▽`*))
