Work Text:
Percy knew they was different from a young age. They knew that sometimes they wished to be a girl sometimes a boy sometimes neither or both a the same time. In Percy’s eyes there was nothing wrong with. Sally accepted Percy just the way Percy was.
Percy was 10 when they first heard the term genderfluid. That was the day Percy learned that there were other just like them. Percy did some research about it. They saw that it fit.
Percy was 11 when they came out to Sally. She was already suspecting this. She accepted Percy no matter what. They were her kid after all.
When Percy started Yancy nobody excepted them. Called them slurs and bullied them. That wasn’t a problem Percy had been bullied their whole life they were used to it. The teachers didn’t respect his identity or pronouns. There were a few exceptions of course like Grover and Mr. Brunner. But Percy still felt pretty alone at Yancy.
When Percy woke up at the camp they were shocked. There was a girl next their bed. Her first words to them was “You drool in your sleep.” Percy was freaking out to be honest. Then they remembered what happened before they passed out. Sally who was their mother and the kindest woman to ever exist. Percy first thought was I am going to save her.
The girl told Percy to come with her. Percy walked downstairs after her. Percy was surprised when they saw Mr. Brunner. But happy to see a familiar face.
“Mr. Brunner.”
Their Latin teacher smiled.
“Ah, good, Percy. Now we have four for pinochle. Percy this is Mr. D. He is the camp director.”
“Oh I suppose I must say it. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood. There. Now don’t except me to be glad to see you.”
"Uh, thanks. " Percy scooted a little farther away from him because, if there was one thing they had learned from living with Gabe, it was how to tell when an adult has been hitting the happy juice. If Mr. D was a stranger to alcohol, They were a satyr.
"Annabeth?" Mr. Brunner called to the blond girl.
She came forward and Mr. Brunner introduced us. "This young lady nursed you back to health, Percy. Annabeth, my dear, why don't you go check on Percys bunk? We’ll be putting them in cabin eleven for now. “
She seemed curious at the use of the pronoun them. But didn’t say anything.

Annabeth and Pecy were sitting on one of the benches talking. Percy was waiting the obvious question. They knew that she had noticed that here was something.
“Can I ask you personal question? You don’t have to answer it.”
“You are gonna ask me why Chiron referred me as they. I am not that big of an idiot. I am genderfluid. He didn’t want to assume. So he used gender neutral terms. Today I am a boy. It changes. I like to think about like the tides. It’s always moving and changing.”
“How would I know if you changed your gender?”
“Well you can always ask me? Or most of the time I wear bracelets that show it. Red is for she/her. Blue for he/him. Purple is for they/them. It gets weird here. When its green I don’t use any
gendered pronouns. When its yellow its xe/xir. But I don’t have my bracelets with me so just ask. ”
“Thanks for telling me. Its not a topic I know much.”
“Is the daughter of Athena admitting she doesn’t know everything.”
“Oh shut up. I didn’t say I didn’t know anything about it I am just saying that my information is limited.”
————————
When Percy saw the trident that was above her head. She was freaking out. She knew Chiron had to say something. Her only wish was that it would be accepted. She didn’t want him to say son, daughter wasn’t any better because she knew it could change.
"Your father," Annabeth murmured. "This is really not good. "
"It is determined," Chiron announced.
All around her, campers started kneeling, even the Ares cabin, though they didn’t look happy about it.
"My father?" She asked, completely bewildered.
"Poseidon," said Chiron. "Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Percy Jackson, Child of the Sea God. “
She relaxed when Chiron said child. Why hadn’t she thought of that. Annabel was right she was a Seaweed Brain.
