Work Text:
Ah Valentine’s Day, the utmost lovey-doveiest of days. Primp Town was bustling as it usually was, and people were giving their gifts to their partners... but this year was a special one.
Sig and Klug had officially been dating for an entire YEAR.
“Raffina, you don’t get it!” Klug exclaimed as he paced back and forth in his bedroom. Raffina sat on Klug’s bed, looking honestly unimpressed.
“What don’t I get here?”
“We’ve been together for an entire year, Raffina! An entire year!”
“So…?”
“This anniversary has to be special!”
Raffina simply shrugged and Klug groaned loudly.
“So you’ve been dating for a year, big deal-“
“It IS a big deal! No one else has been able to put up with me for this long! I have no idea how Sig is so patient with me when I’m so… so…”
“Loud? Obnoxious? Anxious? Bossy-“
“Okay I get the picture!”
Raffina laughs at Klug’s antics. Klug simply gave her a look of disapproval.
“Okay, okay, I jest! Here’s what you’re gonna do, okay…”
-
“I can’t believe it! You’ve been together for an entire year now!” Amitie exclaimed excitedly. Sig simply smiled at his friend. Amitie kept rambling about how happy she was for them, skipping excitedly around her room. Sig didn’t know what to get Klug for their anniversary, so Amitie and Lidelle pitched in to help. Lidelle was sitting next to Sig on Amitie’s bed.
“Do you still have no ideas, Sig?” Lidelle asked softly, her soothing voice with the usual bubbly smile was enough to calm Sig’s nerves that he was already great at hiding. Sig shook his head, not seeing the need to speak at the moment as a simple head shake did the job. Amitie sat down, legs crossed on the floor.
“Well we gotta help ya think of something!” Amitie said with a determined grin.
“But we don’t know if Klug has planned anything yet” Lidelle chimed in. The girls continued to share back and forth banter as Sig received a text message from Klug.
~
Klug: “Hey, you busy tonight?”
Sig: “nope. why?”
Klug: “Well, I was thinking that maybe we could go out for dinner tonight. Y’know, to celebrate the anniversary~?”
Sig: “hehe, sure”
Klug: “Awesome! I’ll pick you up at around 6?”
Sig: “sounds like a plan ^^”
Klug: “It’s a date then~!”
Sig: “was it not going to be a date?”
Klug: “Pfft heh, it’s a figure of speech. It means that a particular time is a good time to meet.”
Sig: “ah m’kay. see you tonight then ♡”
Klug: “♡♡♡”
~
Sig smiled at Klug’s message before Amitie piped up.
“Yo, who ya texting?” Amitie sat down next to Sig, looking over his shoulder at his phone. She gasped happily, which peaked Lidelle’s curiosity as well.
“Go you! Wait but you still gotta get him something…” Amitie mumbled. Lidelle spoke up suddenly.
“How about a ring?”
Sig and Amitie sort of gave her a bit of a look, not really negative but slightly amused.
“Lidelle, it’s not a wedding!” Amitie giggles. Lidelle starts blushing.
“T-Thats not what I meant! I-I mean as in like… um… uh…”
“Like a promise ring, yeah?” Amitie backed up Lidelle’s idea, causing her to nod happily, green hair bouncing with every movement. Sig thought about it for a moment, looking down at the ground and bringing his clawed hand to his chin.
“M’kay” was the simple answer Sig gave the girls. Amitie and Lidelle got up excitedly and both grabbed one of Sig’s hands, pulling him up and dragging him out with them.
-
Klug was pacing back and forth around his room again, his heart almost thumping out of his chest and mumbling quietly. Raffina watched him pace around, occasionally looking down at her phone and loudly announcing the time in a matter-of-fact tone. Every time she did so, Klug would pace a little faster and his mumbling would turn more erratic and garbled. He was extremely stressed and panicked about this date, maybe needlessly so… no, definitely needlessly so.
“Klug, just breathe.”
“I’M TRYING!”
“Try harder!” Raffina scolded. She stood up and walked over to Klug, gently placing her hands on his shoulders. Her expression was soft and her tone was even softer.
“Look, I understand why you’re panicking. You want this date to go off without a hitch, yeah? Did I hit the nail on the head?”
Klug nodded shakily, trying to blink away the small tears that formed in his eyes. Raffina smiled and stepped back, allowing Klug to regain is composure. He took a deep breath in and closed his eyes, turning on his heal and looking at the full body mirror behind him. Raffina stop behind him, hand on his shoulder.
“Do you see what I see, Klug?”
“No…?”
“I see a little smitten guy~. You don’t wanna mess anything up in front of Sig… but I know that you won’t. I know Sig, he loves you unconditionally. Even if you make one little ‘mistake’, he won’t care. He doesn’t care! He loves you and that’s that! So you’re going to get out there! You’re going to pick him up and give him an amazing night!” Raffina hyped. Klug kinda just looked at her blankly.
“Where did that come from?”
“I dunno… just felt like hyping you up!”
“Well… I think I’m ready!” Klug straightened his outfit, fixed up his hair and turned to run out. He stopped dead in his tracks and ran over to hug Raffina.
“Thanks, by the way” And with that, Klug took off.
-
Sig waited downstairs for Klug to arrive.
That day, Amitie and Lidelle had taken him out to a little jewellery shop. Sig wasn’t looking for anything flashy, just a simple little ring would do. Amitie tried to insist but Sig kept shutting her down. By the end, he settled on a pair, one blue, one purple, but the inside of the ring was rainbow.
Sig almost dozed off by the time he heard a knock at the door. Sig shot up and rushed over, almost tripping, probably a bit too excited, but he didn’t care.
“Heh, that was fast~” Klug teased. Sig blushed slightly and smiled bashfully.
“I, uh, got excited to see you, hehe…” his smile turned more into a well meaning smirk. Klug chuckled as he held his hand out towards Sig.
“Shall we head off, then?” Sig happily took Klug’s hand into his own.
“We shall~”
-
Night fell and it was now late, around 10pm now.
The two had had dinner, but instead of going home, Sig suggested that they went on a walk together under the stars. Klug graciously accepted and the two walked together for hours. Eventually, they had ended up at a large, open park and the two were now lying down side by side, stargazing together and just relishing in just… being there by the other’s side. Occasionally, Klug would go on a long tangent about a specific constellation he could see, only to apologise for rambling, only to have Sig respond with a chuckle and reassure him that it was fine.
They had been quiet for a while, and Klug was fully convinced Sig had fallen asleep, but eventually, Sig had rolled onto his side to face Klug. Klug tilted his head to the side, wide, emerald eyes meeting half lidded ruby and sapphire. Sig sat up, still looking down at Klug, gentle smile gracing his slightly parted lips, small, pointed fangs visible.
“Klug… I’ve had a great time tonight”
“I’m happy to hear that”
“And you always do so much for me… and I can’t express how… loved I feel when we’re together…”
Klug sat up, looking at Sig intently. Sig turned fully to face Klug and gently took his hands into his own. He calmed his nerves and looked up to meet Klug’s gaze.
“We’ve been together for an entire year now… and it’s been the best year in my entire life. That day, last year today, behind the school, I didn’t think you were going to show up in the end, I didn’t know if I’d ever get to tell you how I felt…” Sig paused, hands trembling. He looked around frantically, almost afraid now. Klug gently ran his thumb across Sig’s knuckles.
“Take your time, it’s alright” Klug smiled gently. That smile… to Sig, it was to die for. The way Klug would tilt his head slightly to the side, soft and neat hair gently swaying with every little movement, and the little freckles that dotted his cheeks made so evident by his flushed cheeks… god, Sig could write an entire book about everything he loved about Klug… but he realised he was getting distracted and cleared his throat.
“I-I guess, what I wanna say is that… I love you, Klug… and…” Sig reached for his pocket, pulling out the purple ring, clasping it tightly in his hand, hiding it from Klug’s view, just until he was done talking. “And I want to spend the rest of my life by your side… that is, if you’d have me?” Sig revealed the ring to Klug, earning a gasp in response.
“Sig…” Klug looked away. Sig started to panic.
“Y-yes…?”
Before Sig had time to panic, Klug hugged him oh so tightly, wrapping his arms tightly around his chest, hands on his shoulder blades, and nestling his head into the crook of the other’s neck. Sig felt his face flush bright red and he gently eased his arms around Klug’s waist.
They stayed like that for a while, until Sig could feel Klug start to shiver, and his ears twitched when he heard gentle sobs from Klug. His heart sunk, worried he had said something wrong. Klug finally spoke up after being silent for what felt like hours.
“I-I honestly don’t know what to say to this… but I-I wanna preface by saying that this isn’t a no in a-any way, shape or form…” Klug stopped for a bit to give Sig a moment to dissect his more intellectual way of speaking.
‘Always so formal’ Sig internally chuckled to himself. Klug broke away to look at Sig and dry his eyes and damp cheeks. He mulled over his words before speaking again.
“Sig… I adore you. I adore every minute we share. I… I adore that you’ve put up with me for this long… and that you love me for me, and that you’re patient and kind and and you love me… the way that I am. You don’t try to change me to fit you own desires, but you help me to be a better person… I feel safe around you… I feel… loved. To be honest, when I read that letter you wrote me, I didn’t think it was you who wrote it… but I went and… it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I want to be with you forever, Sig. I want us to spend the rest of our lives by each other’s side… but, I need you to promise me something…”
“Yes…?”
“Promise me that you’ll always be there when I need you to be. Promise me you’ll be my shoulder to cry on… promise me my hand will always have a place in yours… promise me that my soul will always resonate with your own… promise me… that you’ll love me until the end of time…” Klug looked away, face flushed and fresh tears in his eyes.
“I promise. Klug, I promise… it’s you and me, together… forever. I won’t ever abandon you, I swear on my own heart…”
Sig waited patiently for a response, but the response he got was unexpected. Klug cupped his cheeks and kissed his lips.
Finally, they broke apart, Klug resting his forehead against Sig’s.
“Sig… I've always cherished you as my best friend, but now you're so much more. I love you, and I'm honored to be your partner in this life…
I promise, I’ll love you until the end of time itself…”
