Work Text:
Noir just finished their shift at the Mostro Lounge and celebrated by collapsing onto their bed. “ *sigh* Today was a tough day. So many students were at the lounge today; at least none of them caused a scene like last time,” she says, staring at the ceiling. “It gets boring sometimes when you just work behind the bar. Jade, Floyd, and other students help in serving; maybe I should help them out now and then. Another student could just swap in for me,” they continued. “What do you think, Fuzzy?” The Octavinelle student turned to their black, stuffed toy cat they affectionately named “Fuzzy.” Fuzzy was a gift from Trey after discovering that Noir loves cats and collects stuffed toys. He got a little jealous when Noir said she would hug Fuzzy every night and when he asked what about him, she said: “Yeah, you, but Fuzzy comes first.” He wasn’t sure if he regretted giving Noir Fuzzy or not but, seeing them smile was enough for him to not get mad at them. “Exactly, Fuzzy! I should start talking to people more often.”
“Excuse me, Noir–”
“See! Mr. Tako thinks so too!”
“Eh?”
“Ah!” Noir exclaimed, shocked and incredibly embarrassed to see their house-warden, Azul, see them talking to their stuffies. ‘Oh god no, why?! What was I thinking?! I forgot to close and lock the door. I was too busy talking to Fuzzy and Mr. Tako.’ Their entire face flushed red while Azul could not help but giggle at Noir’s childishness. “I hope I am not intruding on your meeting with Fuzzy and Mr. Tako. However, I would like to have a word with you,” the Octavinelle house-warden said between giggles. Noir quickly stands up, walking up to Azul. “May I help you?” the second-year student asked; Azul nodded.
“Yes, I just need you to deliver this suitcase to the Pomefiore Vice House-warden, Rook Hunt. Jade and Floyd have gotten sick. Floyd blaming Jade because he brought some new mushroom and wanted to try it out, and well…it did not turn out so well.”
Noir sighs, ‘Why am I not surprised? Then again, Jade should have known. Guess we all make mistakes.’
“I was a bit hesitant of giving you the task because of well…your shyness, but other students had busy schedules, and I can’t do it because I have to look after the lounge. That is why I am trusting you to get this suitcase to Mr. Hunt, yes?”
Noir was unsure since they had never done anything like this before. “If you are worried about the payment, Mr. Hunt has paid the price in advance so, all you have to do is give it to him,” Azul reassured. ‘I mean, it’s just a small task. Plus, it will be quick. Just look for the guy and give him the thing in the case and go,’ “Sure, I can do it,” Noir said, Azul smiled cheerfully.
“Wonderful! I’ll get the case immediately. If ever he asks, these are the custom-made arrows he asked for a couple of weeks ago.”
“Arrows?”
“Oh, yes, he’s a hunter. A strange man, that one. I suggest you be careful around him.”
“Careful? Why?”
“Just…be careful. Jade and Floyd would know.”
Azul left for a minute to get the suitcase, leaving Noir to stand by the door. ‘I need to be careful around this guy? Why? Wait, he mentioned he’s a hunter. What if he hunts sharks?! What did I get myself into….’ Noir was getting second thoughts on doing the task but, there was no backing down anymore. “Alright, here it is,” Azul hands Noir a large suitcase. It was a bit light, but Noir knew she had to be careful with it. “I’ll deliver it right away,” Noir said, as Azul smiled at them.
“Splendid, I’ll be heading back to my office now. Thank you again, Noir.”
“It’s no problem, Azul.”
“But one more thing before I go.”
“Yes?”
“You’re sure I wasn’t interrupting your meeting with Mr. Tako and Fuzzy?” Azul teased as Noir rolled her eyes. If you’re wondering who Mr. Tako is: Mr. Tako is this giant plushie octopus Noir bought online.
Noir walked across the hallway to the classroom of Class 3-A, Rook Hunt’s class. “This must be it,” she muttered as the bell rang and students began to exit the room. ‘Huh, just in time. Azul said he had blond hair and a hat. Shouldn’t be that hard to find,’ they thought, looking for the client. Soon enough, they spotted a brown hat with a huge white feather in the crowd. “That must be him,” they began speed walking towards Rook, who was leaning against the wall, waiting.
“Um…excuse me–”
“Oh, bonjour – Wait a moment! You are neither Jade nor Floyd.”
“Oh um…,” Noir froze still. The blond looked at them; studied them from head to toe before smiling, rather excited. “You must be Noir Tiburón! Le petit requin de Trey, ” ‘Eh? He knows me? And what did he just say? ‘Little shark’ or something like that and something about Trey?’ Noir could not help but feel confused. How did he know who she was? This was their first time meeting! “You are quite infamous in Pomefiore, petit requin . And the rumors were true!” The blonde looked closer at the Octavinelle student. “You are quite small for a shark, and your eyes are so dark as if light can’t even enter it. Such a steel cold gaze you have,” he said. Noir could not even get a single word out their mouth. “Um…the arrows,” they said, pulling away and handing over the suitcase. “Oh, magnifique! Merci beaucoup, le petit requin de Trey, ” he said, taking the it. ‘I swear this guy is really confusing me,’ Noir thought, watching him set the case down . “Mind if I open the case now so that I may have a look?” he asked as Noir shook their head. “N-Not at all,” she responded as the Rook smiled and kneeled down to open the suitcase. In the case were arrows, as expected, wrapped in some type of cloth. He carefully unwrapped the arrows, and the first thing Noir noticed were the heads. The arrowheads were pitch black and had a glass-like shine. Noir looked at the arrows, a little curious. “Beautiful, are they not?” he said, carefully holding one of the arrows in his gloved hands. “The heads are carved out of obsidian, a volcanic glass, and are very sharp. One wrong move could cut your skin,” he said, inspecting the goods brought before him. That was enough to send a shiver down Noir’s spine. She slowly began to step back from the blond.
“Right, um…I s-should be going–”
“Wait a moment, petit requin. ”
“Hm?” Noir hummed, stopping their tracks. If there is one thing they know as a shark, they must keep moving or else they die. However, something in them was too scared to move. Rook returns the arrow he picked up back in the case before closing it. “I have a bunch of questions, just for curiosity’s sake, non? ” he said, as Noir looked at him, feeling a little uneasy. “I am sure Azul has mentioned that I am quite the hunter,” he says. “I come from a family of hunters from the Afterglow Savana. I’ve hunted multitudes of wild prey. Deer, eagle, fox, and much more,” he continues. ‘If all he’s gonna talk about is his hunting prowess, I’m out of here,’ Noir slowly began to feel bored and began backing away bit by bit. “Though, there are certain creatures I have yet to hunt,” he says as he looks at Noir.
“I have never hunted a shark before.”
The second-year student felt a chill run down their spine. “Um…w-what?” Noir did not know what else to say. He eyed Noir once again from head to toe. “From what I heard, different sharks have different personalities. Some are curious, some are aggressive, some are shy,” he paused and smiled at Noir. “I would just like to know, what kind of shark would you be, petit requin ?” Rook asked, twirling a strand of her hair around his fingers. “Uh…um…,” Noir could not answer; they just wanted to leave. “Not the most talkative one, I see. Perhaps a shy little shark?” he whispered, getting even closer. Noir forcefully backed away.
“I should go now–”
“Noir?”
“Trey?!” Noir turned around and saw Trey; his eyes widened. Noir looked at him for some help and, as if he could read their mind, he came in to rescue her. He walked up to Noir calmly and greeted Rook, a clearly forceful smile was on his face. “Hello there, Rook,” he said, trying his best to be polite. “Well, good afternoon, Chevalier of Rose . Noir just delivered to me the arrows I requested from Azul,” he responded, tucking a strand of Noir’s hair behind her ear as she shrugged him off. “I shall be going now. Farewell, le petit requin de Trey and Chevalier of Rose! ” the Pomefiore third-year student says, walking away with the suitcase. “ *sigh* Thank you so much, Trey. I owe you one,” the Octavinelle student said in relief as Trey still stared where Rook walked off to. Noir noticed how Trey’s hand was balled into a fist, shaking. “T-Trey? You okay there?” Noir asked, getting his attention. “Oh, yeah, I’m okay. I was actually heading back to the dorm to make the cake for the unbirthday party this week. Want to join me?” he asked; Noir nodded. Maybe a little baking with Trey could get their mind off of what just happened earlier.
At the Heartslabyul kitchen, the atmosphere was different. Trey was oddly silent. While Noir was measuring some cream for the chocolate ganache for the cake, Trey was chopping the chocolate…rather violently. Despite his face being calm and collected, his hands said otherwise. It was not like him. He accidentally broke one of the eggs too hard, many bits of the shell fell into the batter, and he started all over again. It was not like him to make these mistakes, especially in baking. She could tell he was not feeling well, and she knew why or at least had an idea of why.
Trey…was jealous.
Noir is a smart cookie. They know he saw them with Rook with his hand in her hair, but they did not think Trey would be that type of guy. The two have been dating for weeks, and this was the first time she’s seen Trey jealous.
“Hey, um…Trey?”
“Yes?”
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?”
“Well…you’ve been a bit quiet and–”
“I promise you, I’m fine. It’s nothing,” Trey said as he transferred the chopped-up chocolate into a bowl. “I don’t want to accuse him of being jealous even though I can really tell he is….” The two continue to bake in silence, Noir still feeling shy about bringing it up. The two then pour the batter into the cake pans before putting them in the oven. “Noir?” Trey asked, “Can you set a timer for 40 minutes?” Noir nodded and set a timer on their phone for the time mentioned before setting it down on the counter.
“Alright, the timer’s all set– Woah! What are you doing?”
Trey got very close to Noir, their back against the island counter and his hands on the counter, trapping them under him. His mustard-golden eyes stared down at her as his tall frame towered over her. “Trey, mahal , what are you– mhm!” Noir gets cut off by Trey planting his lips on hers, cupping her cheek in one hand. “Mmh,” the Heartslabyul Vice-Housewarden moans softly into the kiss. Noir slowly began to kiss him back as she wrapped her arms around his neck, entangling her fingers in his short, soft, green hair. Trey moved his other hand from the counter and placed it on the small of her back, pulling her closer. They’ve never been so close to one another before. It felt strange at first, but it felt so right. The two then pull away from the kiss and stare into each other’s eyes for a moment, Noir’s arms still around his neck and Trey still holding her close as they try to process what just happened. “Wow…that just happened…,” Noir muttered.
“Yeah…um, Noir?”
“Yes– Woah!” Trey pulls her into a hug, cradling their head and playing with their hair. Naturally, Noir hugged him back, burying her face in his chest. He smelt like a bakery and felt like home.
“You were right.”
“About what?”
He pulls from the hug to look at his girlfriend, still a little flushed. “About me being jealous, I was jealous of Rook,” he confessed.
“W-What? I-I never said that–”
“‘I don’t want to accuse him of being jealous even though I can really tell he is…,’ does not ring a bell?”
“H-How–”
“You should really stop thinking out loud, love.”
Noir playfully punches his chest as Trey chuckles at her reaction. “But, seriously, you were right. I was jealous. I remember just seeing him with his hand in your hair and having the urge to just punch him where he stood,” he said, trying his best to maintain his composure. Noir could tell he was holding himself back. As if the outline of a vein that was popping from his temple did not make it obvious. “Trey, I just met the guy, and honestly, I wish another student was chosen to give that package. I can see why Azul told me to be careful around the guy,” Noir explained as Trey let out a sigh. “I was…I was just a little scared. For the first time, I thought: what would happen if Noir left you for another– mmh!” before Trey could even finish his sentence, Noir gave him a quick kiss on the lips. “I’m starting to think interrupting one another with kisses is just gonna be a thing for us?” Trey jokes as Noir rolls their eyes.
“Trey, I am never leaving you for another person, EVER. You are the sweetest, kindest, most amazing guy I’ve ever met; I don’t think I could ever ask for anyone else. I love you so much.”
Trey could not help but feel so touched. His girlfriend poured their heart out for him, all because he felt some jealousy. “And I love you too,” he says with a loving smile before giving Noir a kiss on the forehead. “And, mahal , if you ever do feel jealous again, you can tell me. You tell me to tell you how I feel; you should do the same, okay?” Noir asks as he nods with a smile.
“I will, and by the way?”
“Yes?”
“I hope you know how much I love it when you call me that,” he whispered soft and slow into her ear, causing her breath to hitch as goosebumps run across her skin and her face, burning red.
“T-Trey, someone could walk in on us! What if Riddle sees us?! Isn’t there a rule about making out in the kitchen or something?!”
“What made you think we were going to make out?” he asked as Noir’s face turned redder than Riddle’s hair. “I-I just thought– because you– I– you were just– dammit!” Noir buries their face once more into his chest as their boyfriend laughs at how flustered they are. “Hahaha, you’re so cute when you’re flustered. I was only teasing, c’mere you,” he says before pulling Noir in for another kiss. “Mhmm,” Noir moaned into the kiss, running her hands through his hair. They could not help but smile and hold Noir even closer to him. Trey pulls away for a moment, “Wait, how many minutes left till the cake is finished?” he asked. Noir looks at their phone. “Um, 20 or so minutes?” they respond as Trey smirks. “Perfect,” he said as Noir looked at him, flustered and confused. “W-Why? What are you planning- ah!” Trey began to plant small kisses on their neck, carefully going over her choker.
~The Following Day~
Noir poured some lemonade in a glass before setting it on a tray for another student to serve. They began to make another order of drinks: an iced latte, a cappuccino, an americano, an iced tea, and a hot tea. All those drinks were for table 5. After finishing those drinks, they placed them on a tray before Jade approached them. “Noir, I know you do not enjoy going up to customers and serving the drinks you make, but…table 5 requested that you would serve their drinks,” Jade informed, pointing over at the said table. Sitting there was, surprisingly enough, Riddle, Cater, Deuce, Ace, and Trey. “Um…sure, Jade,” Noir placed the drinks on the tray and steadily walked over to the table. “Um…iced latte?” Noir asked as Deuce raised his hand.
“Oh, that would be mine.”
“Right,” Noir placed down the glass in front of Deuce, “Iced tea?”
“Oh, that’s mine!” Ace responded.
“Okay,” they put the glass in front of Ace, “Hot tea?”
“That would be mine, Noir, thank you,” Riddle said, polite as always.
“No problem, Riddle,” she said, placing the cup in front of the Heartslabyul house-warden, “Americano?”
“That’s mine, thanks, Noir!” Cater said enthusiastically.
“No problem,” they placed the glass down in front of Cater, who automatically took a picture of the glass. “Lastly, cappuccino?”
“Now that would be mine.”
“Right, here you go, mahal- I mean, Trey!” they said as they nervously put the cup down. Everyone but Trey looked around confused; Trey was the only one chuckling at Noir. “Thank you, love ,” Trey teased, making Noir blush and Ace roll his eyes. “Jeez, you two. Get a room,” Ace commented. “Aw, c’mon, Ace! It’s so cute! Noir and Trey are just #RelationsshipGoals!” Noir winced (cringed) a little at what Cater said but found it flattering either way.
“I’ll get back to the bar now–”
“Wait, Noir, I have one question.”
“Oh, what is it, Riddle?”
“That bruise on your neck, what happened there?”
Noir’s blush went even redder before looking over at Trey, who was taking a sip of his cappuccino. Trey looks up at Noir before giving them a little wink, making them blush even more. “I-It’s nothing, I should go,” Noir speed walked away, holding the tray close to their chest as they walked back to the bar. They placed their hand over the spot where the “bruise” was before looking over at Trey’s table, who looked back at them, sending them another wink. They blushed even darker as memories of yesterday came flooding back and the time they spent in the Heartslabyul kitchen, other than baking the cake.
