Work Text:
It was a little bit before lunch time. Piltover's finest was having somewhat of a slow day in the office.
They both preferred the action of being in the field over doing desk duty. But to the dismay of both Caitlyn and Vi, paperwork can't really be avoided forever.
The shorter woman stretched her arms. "Caaaaaaiiit." Vi whined. "Can we go get lunch early? I'm so tired of looking at blocks of texts on sheets of paper."
To everyone's surprise, Jinx had been off the radar for a while and crime in Piltover had been rather stagnant for a little while. Of course, there had been a few smaller cases here and there but none too serious for both of them to be out in the field.
While this is technically good for the city, the two enforcers nowadays often find themselves admittedly rather bored with their work lives. Paperwork is needed and is rather essential but it is painfully dull and boring.
Caitlyn yawned. "Perhaps we could afford to take a bit of a break before all this gets too overwhelming, no?" Vi stood from her seat.
"What do you suggest then, Cait?"
~~~
Not a lot of people knew this but Caitlyn actually really liked gardening and flowers. It was a little hobby of hers that she liked dabbling in from time to time.
Because the day was slow, the pair took off to one of Caitlyn's favorite gardens located so conveniently near her parents’ house.
It was a gorgeous sunny spring day. The flowers would be in full bloom. It was neither too hot nor too chilly. Perfect for a little escapade to the gardens.
“Come on, Vi!” Caitlyn could barely hide her childlike excitement. She firmly held her partner’s hand and led her into one of the biggest gardens in Piltover. The place of her childhood. The place that she knew was hers and hers alone.
Her special haven.
“Coming, cupcake.” Vi chuckled as she followed Caitlyn into the gardens. Immediately she was greeted by the various smells and sights of so many different plants. Trees of all shapes and sizes, flowering bushes of which she does not know any of the names of.
The lush trees bejeweled with various fruits that all looked so succulent. Vi was amazed at the sight of so many trees and flowers to say the very least. Coming from the lanes, she has never seen flowers actually grow into… well flowers.
Caitlyn sighed happily. "This place takes me back." She said, taking a seat on a bench situated underneath a tree that provided ample shade. The raven haired girl gestured for her partner to come sit in the shade of the tall oak tree with her.
"I understand why you would spend all your time here, Cait. It feels so fresh." Vi inhaled deeply, taking in all the sights and scents. She takes her seat next to Caitlyn.
Caitlyn let out a hearty laugh, leaning on her partner's shoulder. "You know I would go here whenever I felt overwhelmed with whatever was going on."
"Would you come here a lot then?" Vi put her arm over Caitlyn's shoulder, snuggling up to her a bit. She could smell Caitlyn's lavender shampoo. Despite them being in a garden full of flowers, she knew that scent was so distinctly Caitlyn.
"I would." Caitlyn cuddled up closer to Vi. "I would often go here when I felt like my parents were being a bit too much or if I would be overwhelmed with my studies. I'd sit on this bench with a little sketchbook and just sit in the shade and draw everything I want."
“I would stay here for however long I needed and I would draw everything that caught my eye. I would stay here until it got dark and the street lights would turn on.” Caitlyn lifted her head from its position on Vi’s shoulder. “I would sketch the trees and the greenery and the benches and the fountains. But I absolutely adored sketching the flowers.” She gestured over to the things she had just mentioned, grinning widely as she did. "Time seemed to fly whenever I would stay here."
Vi let out a small chuckle, looking lovingly at Caitlyn as she let her partner have her moment. The pink-haired girl smiled widely as she listened to her lover speak so excitedly. “What were your favorite ones to draw, Cait?”
While she did not exactly know what to add to the conversation, Vi was more than interested to know more about Caitlyn. And this interest only made the other woman giddier and more excited.
Cute.
Caitlyn smiled a smile that reached her eyes as she stood from her spot on the bench. “Violets. I loved drawing violets. Like those." She pointed to the violet flowers that grew near the oak tree where they sat. "I would draw them so much that I know that I could take all of them and compile them into a singular sketchbook.”
Caitlyn giggled. "The sketches weren't even that good." The breeze flew softly past Caitlyn, her dark hair flowing seamlessly with the wind.
Vi caught herself staring at Caitlyn in absolute awe. It was a rather sunny day out but Vi felt her face and ears get warmer. Her heart was also somehow pounding as her stomach seemed to erupt in a million firelights. She could have sworn that she was almost as pink as her hair.
Jesus.
She knew that Caitlyn was talking about the flower violet but why on earth did she feel this way-
Caitlyn's smooth, buttery voice broke her train of thought. "My Violet, would you perhaps let me sketch you sometime?"
Shit.
Vi usually had something to say about everything that came her way. Anything at all could be solved through a few rough statements and her fists.
This was different.
For the first time in a while, Vi was left absolutely speechless. In a garden, with the love of her life. This feeling was so new to her.
All that came out of her mouth was air and silence. Her throat was bone dry. Caitlyn was smirking at her. Usually she'd be the one all coy.
"A-ah." Real smooth, Vi . "I-If that's what you want, Cait." She managed to say.
"I do, my flower. My Violet. I'm not an artist but I'll do my best." Caitlyn pecks her stunned partner on the lips, holding her hands. "You are the most beautiful flower in this garden, Vi." Caitlyn said, tucking a stray piece of pink hair behind her partner's pierced ear.
Vi gulped.
"You're fucking gay, Cait." Vi stood from her seat and started walking away from Caitlyn, hiding her face behind her hair.
"Oh but I'm your gay." Caitlyn laughed, catching up to Vi.
It was time for lunch. And Vi was never one to miss lunchtime.
