Work Text:
Your head was pounding. You could hear everything going on around you but you couldn't open your eyes, they felt too heavy. How had it all come to this?
You replayed the events in your head. How you had ended up lying on the floor of Stu Macher´s house because someone had gone crazy and decided to attack a bunch of innocent high school students.
It had all started when Stu had insisted on throwing a party to celebrate your school closing indefinitely because of all of the killings. You had been skeptical of the idea, everyone who had been killed or attacked was people from your school, people from your own grade to be more precise. And he wanted to throw a party where everyone from your grade would be together, when there was a killer on the loose who specifically targeted high school teens? Some of the boys in your school were unbelievable. Sure, Stu had claimed it would be an intimate gathering but knowing his girlfriend Tatum, everyone in your year would be receiving an invitation. It all sounded like a death wish to you, but Sidney had asked if you were going and said that she would be more comfortable going if she knew you were going too. So as the lovestruck fool you were, you had decided to come. In some way you always knew that your crush on her would get you in trouble. Just not like this.
After your fate had been decided, you had headed home to get ready for the party. You didn't really know what to expect and it wasn't really your type of crowd so you decided to go for a simple look, your favourite top and some ripped denim jeans paired with a cool pair of kicks. You weren't much of a drinker and besides you were all underage so you decided to just pour a soda into a water bottle, if anybody asked you could always say that it was liquor mixed with soda or blame it on the fact that you were driving. Though knowing your classmates a lot of them would be drinking even though they were driving home again later. Grabbing your things you quickly headed off, playing some of your most up-beat music on the way to get in the mood.
As you entered the house, after you had finally found a good spot to park your car, you were taken aback by just how packed it was. You didn´t know if Sidney had arrived yet and had very little hope of finding her in the crowd, the size of it was slightly intimidating. Were there really that many people in your year? You decided that the best thing would be to go to the living room and just wait; Sidney probably would have to go through it at some point since it was the main room of the house. Moving through the hallway and into the living room you found the couch already occupied by a group of people chatting about something you couldn't force yourself to care about, you made eye contact with Randy and he did a little nod in greeting. You gave him a small smile back before sitting down on the floor with your back leaning against the couch.
Indulging some of the girls sitting next to you in mindless conversation you learned just how different your mindset was from those of your fellow students. All they could focus on was local town gossip, as if any of that mattered when there was a killer on the loose. Based on how they had reacted to the news of Casey Becker and Steve Orth, by pulling pranks and celebrating when school closed, you shouldn't have been surprised, but still. You knew a few of the girls from sharing classes with them but you didn't know them well by any means. The conversation flowed easily and stayed at a superficial level. Your head turned towards the entryway when you heard cheers erupting around you. Your eyes landed on Sidney´s face as she and Tatum entered the room with some shopping bags, heading for the kitchen. Her eyes however did not meet yours. Of course they didn´t.
When the two girls entered the living room again with Stu in a tow, after dropping off the shopping bags, he insisted on Tatum sitting next to him on the couch which led to Sidney being placed next to Randy. Lucky bastard.
As the girls beside you continued to talk about principal Himbry supposedly having some secret love affair with one of your teachers, really for how long could they talk about that one piece of gossip, you found your ears and focus drifting to Sidney´s conversation with Randy. They were talking about Jamie Lee Curtis and how many horror movies she starred in. By the sounds of it all the movies Randy had brought had her as the protagonist, figures.
Their conversation didn't last very long however as it was interrupted by the doorbell ringing, promptly followed by Tatum´s older brother Dewey entering with TV-star Gale Weathers. Your eyes shot to Sidney and you could tell she wasn't very pleased with the special guest, neither was Tatum who called out to her brother. After Tatum had finished reprimanding Dewey, Sidney stood from the couch and quietly talked with him before heading off somewhere. Randy ran off to find a camera in hopes of taking a picture with Gale, who walked further into the room, everyone singing her praises. Sheep.
To say you weren't Gale Weather´s biggest fan was an understatement. During Cotton Weary´s trial she had pointed a lot of fingers at Sidney and basically dragged her name through the mud. The girl had lost her mom for christ sake and there was Gale Weathers trying to profit off of it. You couldn´t stand for that.
Abruptly a lot of people left the room, including Dewey and Gale, some going other places in the house and some leaving to go home. You didn't know where Sidney had gone off to so you decided to move to the couch now that it wasn't so crowded. Not long after you had sat down, Randy came back and suggested popping in one of the movies he had brought. Soon a whole group of people wanted to join and Stu had popped some popcorn and grabbed some beers for everyone. And so you quickly found yourself trapped between some of your classmates, a large group of you crowded on and around the couch.
It wasn't as easy to fully enjoy the movie when the boys around you seemed to have made it their mission to comment on every little thing. The most shocking part was that Randy wasn't even the worst of them, which was saying a lot; he was the expert after all. Or that was rather until he had decided to pause the movie to talk about the rules of the horror genre when someone else had asked an ignorant question; but was Randy really surprised at that? They all seemed ignorant to you. Finally after a lot of shouts of protest at some of Randy´s rules and Stu heading off, after saying the phrase Randy had insisted on that you should not say, Randy plopped down on the couch again and the movie played on.
Some time passed before the movie was once again disturbed, this time by the sudden sound of a phone ringing bursting through the room. Everyone looked at each other, no one really feeling like moving from their spot. Finally Randy lifted himself off the couch and went to pick it up.
“Hello? Yeah?” he asked, sitting on his knees in front of the TV, not seeming to understand what was going on. Someone who had drunk that much beer probably shouldn't have answered the phone, but it was too late to do anything about it now.
“Holy shit” his mouth dropped open and he stood up, turning towards all of you “Listen up. They found principal Himbry dead. He was gutted and hung from the goalpost on the football field”
What the fuck. You felt like you were going to be sick.
Everyone except for you and Randy ran out of the room to go see your now deceased principal´s corpse before the police removed it. What was wrong with the people from your school? Seriously, that was their first thought?
“I'm going to go look for Sidney” you announced, slapping your hands on your thighs before standing up.
“Yeah yeah” Randy mumbled, waving you off, his focus and attention clearly on the movie.
You playfully rolled your eyes at the back of his head before walking through the kitchen and leaving Randy alone in the living room. You headed off towards the grand staircase. The house seemed rather empty and much quieter than when you arrived. An eerie feeling washed over you as you headed up those long stairs, the wood under you creaking with every step.
“Sid?” you hesitantly called out as you got to the top of the stairs “Hello?”
Suddenly you heard a door behind you slam open, you turned around and barely caught sight of a darkly clad figure as something hard hit your head and you fell to the floor; landing on your side. The tall figure grabbed your arm and turned you over on your back. But before they could drop your arm and continue their attack you fought back, or at least you tried to. You grabbed one of their arms holding it in place, your other one frantically grabbing towards the figure, trying to keep the arm that was holding a knife at bay. Your frantic movement however led to your arm swiping against the cool blade. You hissed at the feeling, it stung like a bitch, but you couldn't give up so you kept on trying to grab their garment so you could flip them over. The attacker seemed to be getting annoyed with your squirming and landed another hard blow to your head. The punch hit you like a ton of bricks, your head spinning even more than before and your body falling silent. The attacker drew their arm with the shiny knife in it into the air, ready to slam into you at any moment. Your sight was blurry and you couldn't seem to move, it was like your body had frozen. However you never felt the sharp stabbing pain of the knife in your chest. Some voices coming from a nearby room caught the figure´s attention and it darted off towards the room. The last thing you saw was the boots of the attacker quickly stomping towards the voices as everything around you faded to black.
-
“Y/N are you okay? Y/N talk to me” The voice was shaky, “Y/N I need you to stay with me okay?” it sounded female and when you thought about it, it also sounded familiar. Sidney?
You tried to call out to her, to tell her that you were okay and that everything was going to be fine - but you couldn't move a muscle. As much as you tried, you couldn't get your mouth to open or form any words. No matter what you did or how hard you tried, there was no response from your body.
“I´m so so so sorry you got caught in the middle of all of this shit”. You felt cold, salty tears land on your skin, some of them landing onto your lips. “Oh fuck, I-I should've told you this sooner but I thought I had time you know? I was waiting for the perfect moment. This is so unfair, shit. Uhm anyway-” You couldn't see it but she swiped her hands against her eyes, drying some tears. She cleared her throat before speaking again “I like you, like really like you and so I need you to be fine, okay? Like I said I need you to stay with me” She shook your body and lightly patted your face with her fingers to try and get some sort of reaction, anything. “Please don´t leave me, it can't end like this”
You wished you could comfort her, tell her how you felt the same or reach out and stroke her cheek but you felt far too weak at the moment. Sidney leaned down on top of you, throwing her arms around you and hugging you close whilst her face rested on your chest. You could feel some of her hair tickling your face, it erupted a warm feeling in your body.
The sounds of sirens got closer and louder as what you assumed were the police and a couple of ambulances arrived. Some healthcare workers had run over to you, asking you questions and shining a flashlight in your face. You had for the first time in what felt like hours been able to slowly open your eyes. You couldn't move or speak yet, only let out some groans and make some groggy sounds in agreement to what they were saying, but it was an improvement. You were placed on a stretcher and lifted up. They carried you into the ambulance whilst your eyes tried to scan the situation to see if everyone else was fine. You had been knocked out quickly but you were sure that the killer had attacked more people. The last thing you saw before they closed the ambulance doors and headed off were Sidney´s worried eyes.
-
Next thing you knew you awoke at the hospital. You couldn't remember falling asleep in the ambulance but you had been punched pretty hard in the head after all, so some blanks in your memory when it came to the events of the night were to be expected. You still had a mean headache but it was better than the one you had earlier and everything else seemed to work normally again. Your vision was now fully back to normal and you could move your face and body with no issue for the most part. The events of the night that you could remember flashed before your eyes, but the moment that was bothering your mind the most was what had happened after everything was over and done with - you had to talk to Sidney. Against your better judgement you ripped out the IV chord from your hand and carefully pushed your body up. You swung your feet out from the bed and placed them on the cold tile floor. When you felt your footing was sturdy enough you jumped off the bed and started rushing towards the door that led to the hospital corridor. You needed to find a phone to call Sidney from.
As you hastily ripped open the door your heart nearly lept out of your chest. You found someone standing on the other side of the door with one of their hands in the air, ready to knock on the door. You took a few steps back, your hand clutching your chest as you released a big sigh of relief.
“Holy shit, Sidney you scared the crap out of me” you laughed, your heartbeat slowing with each calming breath you took.
“Sorry” she replied bashfully “I wanted to see how you were doing, the hospital workers didn´t know if you were awake yet and they didn't want to let me in since I wasn´t family but I needed to see you”
“I've been better but I´m good, considering” you replied with a shrug “Funny thing, I was actually just leaving to call you”
“Oh?” She asked, her head tilting in wonder as she looked at you with an unreadable look on her face.
You moved further back into the room allowing her to enter. After she had walked past you, you closed the door behind her giving the two of you some privacy “I was thinking about what you said back at Stu´s house-” you started, pacing around the room, before Sidney quickly interrupted you.
“Oh, I didn´t know if you had heard any of that.” Her eyes fell to the floor whilst she tucked some hair behind her ear, before they quickly shot up to yours again “Uhm, just forget about it. I was j-”
You cupped her cheek and hurriedly placed your lips on hers. It took a few seconds before she processed what was happening but when she did she quickly started kissing you back. You stroked her cheek a few times before your hand fell back to your side as the kissing got more intense and passionate. Sidney intertwined both of her hands with yours and gave them a gentle squeeze.
“Sid, I really li-” you started, leaning back a bit so your lips parted from hers. She quietly shushed you before her lips landed on yours again. She smiled contently into the kiss.
“I know”
