Work Text:
She is just an ordinary and plain third year student, not from a famous clan, and doesn't possessed a unique ability either, except for her bloodline magic. But, in one aspect, she is different from her classmates. Some of them already started dating, going to Sabbath, or making a group for 'girls talk', which is more likely talking about boys.
But for her, it all started with a simple admiration for her dear teacher.
Naberius Kalego
Surely that isn't without reasons, because Kalego sensei is a honorable and outstanding devil, he is a Khet rank after all. But, that's not the only reason, there's more to it. Most students may hate his class, judging from the mountain of homeworks he would give to them at the end of his class. But for her, she always thinks that she is lucky enough to sit behind her desk as his deep, enthralling voice weave explanations about the lesson. Sometimes, he just gave out a normal amount of work, because he already had most of his focus taken by the Misfits Class, his duty as their homeroom teacher. That's why, he rarely spare a glance to something that didn't have any relation to him or his class.
Oh, how lucky it is to be a part of Misfits, having Kalego sensei sole attention just for them.
As an admirer, she is jealous.
Then, she starts noticing other things about him.
One day, she caught a tiny upward curve of his lips when a student raises a hand and presents a perfect answer to the problem he has laid out. How those amethyst shine brightly in interest when the said student bravely counter his answer with arguments, even though their hands and legs were shaking badly from the pressure given by his intimidating gaze. It just happened once, but she still appreciated the view, and to be honest, she was a little bit jealous because she wasn't on the smart side. If it was her, maybe she will combust with excitement. That night, she couldn't stop thinking about the wave of his elegant fingers as he told them to sit before proceeding the lesson, answering every single one of questions that came from their previous arguments.
He has grave understanding for his class and his dedication as a teacher is something else. Through them, she learns to 'love' him, and that's why, she watches him more.
She watches him in class, from her seat in the fourth-row bench, away from the other students. She watches him as he crosses the courtyard to the main building, eyes fixed to the front and feet walked straight with confidence, he never lowered his chin as if intimidating everyone who ever have the idea to try and stop him. She watches him when he stands among other teachers during every ceremony or important events, looking incredibly handsome in his teacher's outfit while talking to Balam sensei, who teach the Imaginary Biology.
Sometimes, she tells herself that she simply admires him. Sometimes, it isn't that simple.
She isn't one of those strikingly beautiful girls, but her parents own a flower shop, and there's time they will sell a batch of rare cacti. It wasn't hard to know his attraction towards cacti after snooping around the faculty room. And she knows, after a few words about her parents' flower shop, she successfully holds his interest. So, whenever he didn't look too pissed to hold a conversation, she will tell him about which kind of cacti is ready in store. And it helps to kick up her progress, because every now and then there will be moments, just small, fleeting moments, when he looks at her when they passed in the corridor, or when she sits in his class
So she thinks, maybe there's a chance.
And so the hope grows. It grows bigger and bigger everyday.
Until one night.
It is a cold night, but she sits on one of the cold wooden benches in the courtyard, taking a break from the preparation for this year Battler Party. Just for ten minutes, she said to herself, as an excuse to stay there and wait for her dear teacher. She knows that Kalego sensei always passes this way when he goes home. She already had a plan to approach him, and then maybe ask him about another rare cacti he wants to collect. It's no big deal, her parents' shop could prepare a small extra batch for their regular customer.
"... Rejected without further consideration", it's Kalego sensei's voice, which steadily growing louder. "Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to handle one class full of troubles?"
"I do, Kalego-kun", another voice answers.
Surprised and panicked, she quickly jumps to her feet and hides in the bushes behind the bench. In a brief moment, her eyes caught a glimpse of the other devil and recognising him as Balam sensei. It's rare to see him walk around, he usually holed himself in Biology Preparation room. No one wants to go there, because of the unpleasant rumors which circulate around him, except for the Principal's grandchild and Kalego sensei.
"My point is even if it's you, who tried to persuade me to handle another class as a substitute homeroom teacher, because that stupid Principalー"
The rest of Kalego sensei's words disappear into a muffled sound right after she heard a clicking sound of metal. Curiosity get the better of her, which made her unconsciously sneak a peek. Her hand flies to her mouth as she watches the scene in front of her. Heart beating painfully in her chest, like it could break her ribs, and make her bleed to death. It's a kiss that silences Kalego sensei, and it left the usual grumpy devil with a melted expression, just for a moment though, because he quickly schooled his visage back.
"I'm sorry", it's Balam sensei who talks first after they separated from the kiss, his smile unmistakeable even in the dim lighting. She is too stunned to think about the appearance under that silver mask. "But, you looked so serious, which is cute. I just couldn't help it to tease you a bit. And believe me, I'm not trying to convince you here. Instead, I have a solution for you. So, let's continue this talk at my place"
"Hah, You have other motives for bringing me to your place", Kalego sensei accuses, displeasure thick in his voice. "What if anyone see us now..."
"Just one, and I knew, you do know from the started. But you do nothing to stopped me"
Then, Balam sensei leans down to kiss him again. It's a soft, gentle kiss, the kind of kiss that shared between lovers who are very much in love with each other. She realized it, and she did know they're talking about her, but she couldn't bring herself to stand up and apologize. Instead, she just sat there, watching the lovebirds continue their conversation.
"You're incorrigible", Kalego admonishes, but he is smiling with his eyes, lips, and even his voice. The sweetest smile he ever let to stay on his visage.
Balam sensei laughs and murmurs something in Kalego sensei's ear. They look happy, once again forgetting her existence, and resume their step. She waits until they have passed while hands clutching her skirt tightly, before she gathers herself and returns home. She didn't even come back to her Battler's preparation room to say goodbye or to fetch her bag. And when she already laid on her bed, she finally tells herself that it isn't exactly a broken heart, because it just an admiration, which she misinterpret as 'love'.
Silly her.
But still, she cries anyway.
