Work Text:
It was the last summer, the last summer they had before Blake and Rachel went off to collage. With their applications sent out to different collages, all they had to do was to wait. Rachel and Blake were lying down in their backyard, just taking in the sun. Giggling and kissing, there was no doubt they loved each other. They could worry about collage another day, but for now just having each other in their arms was enough.
Fast forward a few days later and they were out getting ice cream when they both got a call. Rachel got a call from Lillian and Blake got a call from Nathaniel.
”THEY ARE SENDING OUT THE ACCEPTANCE LETTERS” They screamed, Rachel and Blake looked at each other and ran back home.
Nathaniel and Lillian were already on their laptops reading the emails to see which school they got into and which they didn't. They were exchanging the names of the schools to see if the other got in. You see their plan, just like Blake and Rachels, was to apply to all the same schools and pray that one of them accepts the both of them. They were hopping they would all get accepted into the same school, but they realized after 4 years of high school together they need a break.
Rachel and Blake got their own laptops and began browsing their emails, hoping to find one where the both of them got accepted.
Just then Nathaniel screamed “I GOT INTO PORTSIDE UNIVERSITY OF ARTS AND SCIENCE”
Lilian hugged them excitedly “I did too!”
Blake and Rachel looked at each other and smiled, maybe there was hope for the both them.
A few hours went by with no luck. Neither of them had gotten in any schools that the they both applied too. Blake found an acceptant letter to Cypress University, a university that he was really hoping he would get into. It was giving him a scholarship for football. He would get to play on their team. However, when he peaked at Rachels laptop he found that she hadn’t gotten in. He decided he would just keep quiet about it, he wanted to go to this school.
Rachel, on the other hand, had gotten into Sunset University. A university that was on the opposite side of Cypress University. She was really excited to have gotten into this school because it was a university that had a really good acting program.
“I GOT INTO SUNSET UNIVERSITY!” She cried, smiling excitedly.
Blake looked startled when she told him that. “You did?! Rachel I’m so proud of you!” The hugged for a moment.
“What about you?” She asked.
“W-what about me? Oh! Uh, the email from them hadn’t arrived yet.” He lied, he didn’t want to break her heart.
She nodded “Ok! When it arrives, tell me. Ok?”
“Of course” He said, pressing a kiss on her forehead.
—
Weeks later, the thoughts of the acceptance letters were gone. The four of them were doing a road trip. They were just having fun an exploring Silver Creek and outside of the town that they hadn’t seen before. They had a month left until they went their separates ways to collage. Blake had a month until he would go to c. He had a month until the truth would come out that he wasn’t actually going to Sunset University. He had to tell her. And he decided he would tell her before they all went home.
On their last night Blake told Rachel to come down to the beach with him. She seemed suspicious but followed him.
He dressed in one of his tux's that he had brought along. As he waited for Rachel he was talking with Nathaniel.
“Looking good cuz, are you gonna propose?” They asked
“No...I’m gonna tell her I’m not gonna go to Sunset University...” Blake said nervously.
“Then why are dressed like that?!” Nathaniel said.
“The element of surprise!”
“I swear to god. If you guys break up because of this, you can’t come running to me. You look like your gonna propose!”
“I know, I know. I just-”
“Are you ready?” Lillian called from upstairs.
“Yep!” Nathaniel called back.
Just then Rachel came down wearing a silk purple dress. She was stunning to say the least. Blake was speechless.
“Rachel, you look beautiful.” Blake said blushing
”Thanks” She replied blushing.
“....Shall we go?” Blake asked.
She nodded.
She and Blake headed out of the hotel and went to the beach.
—
“So your probably wondering why I brought you out here.” Blake started, as they walked. He was holding her hand.
“I think I have an idea.” Rachel said blushing.
“Then this will be easier to say...Rachel...I...I love you ok? You are my world, and I don’t know what I would do without you...and-”
“Oh my god, are you...proposing?”
”What? No! I mean...not yet anyway...Rachel, I’m going to Cypress University...”
“You didn't tell me about this”
”I...I know...I assumed though you got in to...You...didn’t?”
”I...I told you that I got into Sunset University...And I thought you did...Can’t you apply to one close to Sunset University?”
”Rachel...I want to stay in Cypress University...Sunset University just isn’t my type of school...”
”So were going to be far away...”
”It’s only going to be 4 years, and and we’ll get to see each other on summer and during Christmas...This won’t last forever Rach”
”I can’t do long distance Blake...”
”Then I don’t think we can make this work.”
”But...I love you...” She said, she was close to tears.
“I love you too but...I don’t want to go to Sunset University. Rach, Cypress University is giving me a full scholarship for football....”
“So this is it? We...We’re just gonna break up?”
“Rachel I never said that...”
“Then what Blake?! I’m scared! You know I don’t like long distance!”
“...Then I guess we are breaking up...”
Rachel hugged Blake sobbing. This was the end.
—
The month was over, and it was time to go their separate ways. Blake had left a week before so he wouldn’t see Rachel cry. After a few quick goodbyes Rachel went of to the terminal of her fight when she heard someone shout her name. She turned around and there was Blake standing a little bit away from her. She placed her hand on her mouth, she ran to him sobbing.
“I’m sorry” She sobbed
“Shh...It’s ok. We can make this work.” Blake said holding her head.
“We can try...” She said kissing him.
And even if they were gonna be a thousand miles away they still loved each other. And that's all that mattered.
