Work Text:

Knock. Knock. Knock.

Sunoo turns his head to his bedroom window where he heard the knocking. When he sees who was there, he doesn't stop the grin growing in his face. Outside the window, there he was. Sunoo's childhood friend and maybe crush, Sunghoon. He waves at Sunoo while smiling softly at him, gesturing to let him in.

He stands up from his swivel chair to open the window and let the boy in his room. "Hello, Sunoo-ya." Sunghoon greets and ruffles his hair as soon as he stepped foot in Sunoo's room.

"Hi, Sunghoon-hyung," Sunoo greets back. "What are you doing here breaking in my home at 11 in the night? Aren't you supposed to be asleep?"

"I could say the same to you. Also, I obviously did not break in. You let me in." Sunghoon shrugs and walks towards the bed to lay down.

It has always been like this. Sunghoon sneaking in Sunoo's bedroom through the window at the middle of the night. He still remembers the first time a 12-year-old Sunghoon showed up in front of 11-year-old Sunoo's window. 7 years later, a 19-year-old Sunghoon is laying down on 18-year-old Sunoo's bed.

Sunoo closed the window where Sunghoon went through and laid down beside him. "I was doing homework." They're now staring up at the ceiling where the glow-in-the-dark stars they sticked when they were kids can be seen glowing faintly. "This late? This is the first time you didn't do homework on time," Sunghoon says. "Hey, I'm a graduating student so I've been stressed lately." Sunoo quickly answered. The older just hums as silence envelopes them.

Sunoo always liked this. Being in a comfortable silence with his bestfriend, taking a break from all the noise he was constantly around.

Sunoo sits up and looks at the taller who was still staring at the ceiling. He now noticed the moonlight illuminating from the previously opened window and how it shines perfectly on Sunghoon's features.

He looks pretty.

He doesn't realize that he was staring for a while and was only snapped back to reality when he hears the older speak, "Do I look that good that you would stare at me for almost 2 minutes now?" Sunghoon smirks and is now staring back at Sunoo.

"Yeah. You do look good, hyung."

The younger's answer caught Sunghoon off guard causing him to flush and look away. He was used to the other answering something like 'You wish' with an eye roll that he wasn't expecting him to agree. Sunoo, who's answer unconsciously rolled off his tongue—just realized what he said and looks away himself, too embarrassed to look at the older.

Now, the comfortable silence is immediately replaced by an awkward one. After what felt like minutes of silence (it has only been 30 seconds.), Sunoo hears Sunghoon say something.

"What was that, hyung?" He peeks at his side.

"I said you don't look bad yourself," he looks at Sunoo, "you look beautiful."

Great.

Sunoo looks away again and clears his throat. He feels his cheeks heating up because, what the hell. "Um," he starts. "Anyways, what are you doing here again?" He asks, still looking elsewhere other than the boy with him.

"Ah yeah, about that," Sunghoon sits up and rubs the back of his neck. "Do you know what day it is tomorrow?"

Sunoo finally collects himself and faced the other. "You came here to ask me about the date?" Sunghoon laughs lightly and shakes his head. "No, no. I know the date tomorrow. I'm asking you if you know." Sunoo looks at him first with an eyebrow raised and looks at the calendar on his study table.

Ah.

"February 14," he looks back at Sunghoon, "Valentine's Day."

Sunghoon grins at him. "Sunoo-ya."

"Are you free tomorrow?"

"Are you asking me to be your Valentine date?"

"Yes. Can I take you out on a date, Sunoo?"

There was a small pause between them before Sunoo laughs as if Sunghoon just told a joke. "You ask me out every year, hyung. I thought it's already a given that I'll be your Valentine date until you find some one to date for real?" Sunoo laughs again while the other just stares at him.

"I like you."

"I know, you always tell me that since we were kids."

"Sunoo." Sunghoon put both of his hands on Sunoo's shoulders.

"I like you." Does he not get it?

"What?" His laughter slowly fading away. Sunghoon is looking straight into his eyes and that's enough to tell that he's serious.

Sunghoon sighs before continuing, "I've liked you since we were kids." Sunoo freezes, did he hear that right? "You mean in a friend way, right?"

"No."

"Don't joke."

"I'm not."

Both of them stayed quiet, one staring at the other, and the other staring somewhere else again. Sunghoon sighs again and drops his hands from Sunoo's shoulders to hold one of the younger's hand. "Why don't you believe me?"

The younger still doesn't answer and stares outside the window with an unreadable expression. "You know that it's okay if you don't reciprocate my feelings, right? I'll still be your friend, even if you reject me." Sunghoon adds.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm sure. I won't lea—"

"No," Sunoo cuts him off. "Are you sure you like me more than a friend?" He finally looks at Sunghoon. The other can see the doubt in Sunoo's eyes, as if he doesn't believe anyone would like him. Sunghoon smiles softly at him, "Of course, I'm sure of it." There's still doubt in Sunoo's eyes, so Sunghoon tries his best to reassure him.

"I like how you make other people smile with your kindness. I like how you're not a fan of skinship yet you hug people to comfort them. I like how you clap when you laugh. I like your eyes when you show a genuine smile. I like your energy that never fails to make people smile, too. I like everything about you." Sunghoon breathes in, "I like you."

Sunoo sniffs, he didn't even realize he was tearing up while listening to Sunghoon. He can't believe someone as perfect as Sunghoon likes him. "Not in a friend way?" He asks through his tears. He sees Sunghoon nod, and pulls him to a hug. They sit there again in silence, both of them could only hear Sunoo's sniffles.

After Sunoo calms down, Sunghoon lets go of him. He had to stop himself to reaching out again because he misses the other's warmth as soon as they let go.

"Sorry I didn't believe you back then, and just now." Sunoo says, "I'm sure I hurt your feelings back then."

Sunghoon smiles at him again and wipes his tears. "It's okay, it looked like you have doubts about yourself and you needed reassurance."

"And about the date," Sunoo bites his lips in nervousness, "You were asking if you could take me out on a friendly date, right?"

"No, I was asking you out, romantically."

"Ah." His cheeks colored a tint of red, "and about your confession," he looked at Sunghoon. "I like you too." Sunghoon's eyes widened and blsuhed lightly.

Sunghoon didn't even have time to react when Sunoo stands up and pulls the other to stand up as well. "Anyways! It's late you should go home now!" He says, pushing him near the window. Sunghoon just chuckles, god he chuckles, and opens the window.

"Alright, alright. You didn't even give me time to process your answer." He sits on the window sill. Before leaving completely, he turns around again to face Sunoo, "See you." Sunoo waves in response. "Oh and by the way," Sunoo hums to tell him to continue.

"I like you, not in a friend way."

Sunoo smiles at him.

"I like you too, not in a friend way."
