Cooking Things

Summary:

He briefly wonders what possessed him to suggest to his boyfriend and close friends that they should all take turns cooking for each other every Friday night

Notes:

Happy Valentines Day!
This is... very short lol
Fun fact, I actually wrote this for an English assignment because I panicked when given the fiction writing question so wrote a fanfic in just under 20 minutes (which is not a lot of time at all for me to write something decent)

I wanted to post it here after I'd edited it a little and perhaps made it longer but I've been going in and out of writers block these past few months so I'm just posting it exactly how it was written for that assignment (although in the assignment I didn't write boyfriend for bokuaka and instead wrote friend since I wasn't sure what sort of reception that would have got rip)

Enjoy!!!

Work Text:

"How about this one? We probably have these ingredients somewhere." Keiji lifts his head from inside the fridge at his boyfriend's words. Moving to hover over the cookbook Koutarou bought for the evening he reads over the recipe he picked out.

Keiji raises an eyebrow. "Sure, if you can find a deep fryer in this dump." A quick scan of their small yet workable kitchen presents the two with the bare minimum of supplies. He has no idea why a book with recipes from around the world was chosen when it was clear that most of the dishes inside would be impossible to recreate.

Pouting softly, Koutarou mutters about how they could boil it in a large pan and it'd probably have the same result as he continues to flick through the pale yellow pages. Keiji makes a mental note of how they should have probably planned in advance so they'd have the correct ingredients. And bought a book with recipes they can actually follow as broke college students. Keiji doesn't even know if they'd have been able to use a pan anyway because he's pretty sure Tetsurou threw out the one they had after he accidentally broke the handle on it while making breakfast for the three of them a couple of days ago.

He briefly wonders what possessed him to suggest to his boyfriend and close friends that they should all take turns cooking for each other every Friday night. Kenma and Tetsurou made them a delicious Italian dish last week - this being the sole reason why Koutarou was determined to do a dish from a different country too.

"What about this salad?" Koutarou shouts, even though Keiji is right behind him.

"Good luck trying to get Kenma to eat that." He rolls his eyes at the suggestion. Anything that sounds healthy will have Kenma sprinting in the opposite direction. Koutarou would have been the same a couple of years ago, although he's gotten much better with eating healthily since he has his heart set on being a professional volleyball player.

Keiji is close to giving up and suggesting they order takeout and plate it to make it seem like they cooked it, when Koutarou gives the most overexaggerated gasp. He darts his head to face his boyfriend, a glare already sporting his face, dark blue eyes narrowed. Koutarou grins sheepishly as he shoves the heavy book into Keiji's chest. His dark expression softens the more he reads.

"We all love spicy food and with the way the dish is made we could probably get away with changing some stuff if we lack the food items." The smile on Koutarou's face almost blinds him as Keiji smiles softly in return.

"We better get started then since we now only have twenty minutes until the other two finish their lectures." Using his index finger he pushes the book out of his face and watches with amusement as the boy beside him proceeds to throw the book down and turn their kitchen into a warzone.

With Koutarou practically glowing from sheer excitement, Keiji thinks that perhaps this wasn't such a bad idea.
