Work Header

I can't BELIEVE.

Summary:

What happens when your hot boyfriend gets another infuriatingly hot boyfriend?
War of course.

Notes:

Alright so a few things before we start:
1. I love exo but I have not written for exo before, so I have no idea what is the popular characterisation, or what pairings are more loved (except chanbaek. who doesn't know chanbaek), so I apologise if this is not what you expect
2. So why did I write exo? For my best friend Nico! Who deserves a fic in which Sehun gets loved and spoiled and Junmyeon and Baekhyun get some unresolved sexual tension.
3. Happy Valentine's Day and I hope you like this little fic of love <3

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

When Sehun had told him that he was polyamorous on their first date, Baekhyun had been okay with it really. He understood it, and he even suspected that he himself was someone who could dapple in it. The latter thought in his head being the courtesy of Kim Jongin and Lee Taemin from his office– he loved Sehun, and yet he could definitely get into that couple, if invited.

Sehun had even told him he was seeing someone, that it was getting serious and he wanted Baekhyun to meet him. Baekhyun had been okay with that too– they had been dating for more than two years now and he felt lucky that someone as handsome and amazing as Sehun only had eyes for him for as long as he had (2 years, 4 months and 15 days to be precise. Yes he had been counting. He installed an app for that sole purpose.)

But nothing had prepared him for the man walking in with his boyfriend through the door of their shared apartment.

"Baekhyun, this is Junmyeon," Sehun grinned, he looked so happy, "Junmyeon, this is Baekhyun."

"Hi," Junmyeon extended a hand to him, absolutely beaming. He was also really hot, Baekhyun noted sullenly.

Baekhyun could beam too. He smiled a little like a gremlin sometimes but he also had sex appeal. Sure he had to do a bit of work to get it, unlike Mr. Perfect Junmyeon here, but Baekhyun could be sexy. Baekhyun could be-

“–Baekhyun?" Sehun cleared his throat. Junmyeon's arm lay hanging in the air awkwardly.

"Right," He forced himself to smile, "Hi."

Junmyeon quickly retracted his hand, his smiling eyes hardening in light of Baekhyun's behaviour. Sehun had caught on too, a frown setting deep into his face.

"Baekhyun, can I talk to you for a minute?"

It was not a question, but a demand, considering how Baekhyun didn't even have the time to answer before he was dragged to the bedroom, Sehun shutting the door behind them.

"You do remember I'm poly, right?"

Baekhyun huffed, "Of course I do."

"Well?" Sehun glared, "What's up with the attitude then?"

Baekhyun shrugged, refusing to answer. He was aware he was acting like a brat, and for the most part of his life that had always been a conscious choice.

But Sehun was a bigger brat. He crossed his arms and kept glaring, which usually turned Baekhyun on, but now made him want to cower.

"Fine," Baekhyun conceded, "I'll behave."

Immediately, Sehun smiled.

"Thank you," Sehun placed a peck on his lips, "I love you."

Baekhyun was a softie. That kiss had the miraculous effect of making him walk out of the room, sit on the dining table, and try to have a civil conversation with Junmyeon, whom Sehun lovingly called Suho.

Suho? What a stupid fucking name.

"So are you polyamorous too?"

Junmyeon smiled, despite the fact that it was very obvious Baekhyun was gritting his teeth to speak.

"Yes. Sehun was very clear that he had a boyfriend when we started dating, and since I've already had experience in being in open relationships, it has never been a bother to me–”

Right. Jumyeon probably had another partner too. Baekhyun sat up straighter.

"–But I'm not seeing someone else other than Sehun currently."

Baekhyun scowled.

“If you frown any longer you’d be giving Do Kyungsoo some serious competition. We can’t have two permanently dissatisfied people in this office.”

“Thanks Chanyeol, I really appreciate your concern.”

Chanyeol laughed and slapped Baekhyun’s shoulder like he had just recounted the funniest joke in the world. Baekhyun wanted a better work husband. He bet Kim Jongin made a good one, or Lee Taemin, though he scared the shit out of him sometimes. He’d even take Yixing- the dude always looked pleasantly confused when Baekhyun talked anyway.

“So what’s got your panties in a twist?”

“Kim Junmyeon,” Baekhyun grimaced.

“Sehunnie’s new boyfriend right?”

“What?” Baekhyun spluttered, “How do you know about him?”

Chanyeol shrugged, “Sehun called me up. Told me to keep an eye on you because you have been acting weird lately.”

Weird? How was Baekhyun the weird one when Junmyeon, with all his infuriatingly perfect jawline and straight teeth perfection kept hanging around his house, spoiling Sehun in kisses and smirking at Baekhyun when he looked enraged by it? Spoiling Sehun was his job. Sehun was a baby when it came to receiving gifts and adoration, and Junmyeon and Baekhyun were just worshippers at his altar. While Baekhyun was happy to see Sehun nothing short of glowing with attention from his two boyfriends, the second worshipper being annoying wasn’t making things easier.

But Sehun had called up Chanyeol to check on him. That was so sweet. Baekhyun should drop by Sehun’s favourite bakery after work and get some of those choux pastries he loved.

Tap.

Baekhyun and Chanyeol jumped.

Do Kyungsoo leaned against Chanyeol’s desk, knuckles poised for another sharp knock if needed.

“If you two are done chit chatting, I needed those sales reports on my table yesterday.”

For good measure, Kyungsoo glared at Chanyeol harder as he walked away.

“I think he wants me,” Chanyeol sighed dreamily.

Baekhyun wondered if it was too late to change to Yixing’s department.

"Choux pastry?" Sehun asked delightfully, warming Baekhyun's heart when he kissed him right at the doorway before he could even get the chance to remove his shoes.

"I was just passing by, thought I'd get you some."

Sehun rolled his eyes fondly, "I know it isn't on your way home at all. But thank you, I'll need it. I just got called for a late night shoot."

Baekhyun frowned, his hands rubbing Sehun’s lower back soothingly, “Without any notice?”

Sehun was an actor- not a very popular one yet, but he had the looks and a few supporting roles in major productions to gather a small but loyal fanbase. It hurt Baekhyun to see that these productions still refused to take him seriously, wanting him to be at their beck and call without any preamble.

“Yes,” Sehun sighed, “I feel especially bad because Suho’s here cooking us dinner and I have to leave right now.”

“What?” Suddenly all the other sounds came back into focus- there was banging of utensils and shuffling noises. How had he not heard that before?

“What is he doing in our kitchen?”

“It’s not like we do anything there anyway,” Sehun snorted, “At least someone’s using it.”

Baekhyun imagined if he were a cartoon character, steam would be coming out of his head at this point.

Sehun gripped his arm, "Behave. I'll be back in the morning."

Baekhyun jutted his chin out, "Does he know that I'm going to have dinner with him?"

Sehun leveled him with a look, "Duh. Bye."

If Junmyeon was going to take the mature route, Baekhyun had no qualms about taking the immature one. He took his own sweet time to arrive at dinner- showering well, picking out a good sweater, and parting his hair and fluffing them up in a way he knew he looked good in. Baekhyun had made the mistake of taking his enemy too lightly the first time around, and he refused to repeat his mistakes. He would look good, be sure of himself and he would walk down to the dining table and–

Why was he in a suit.

“Why are you in a suit?”

Junmyeon looked up from his phone, “Oh good evening Baekhyun. I was just waiting for you to join. Sorry about the suit, I came here directly from work. But don’t worry–” he smiled charmingly, “–I didn’t cook with the blazer on.”

Baekhyun wore a suit to work. What Junmyeon was wearing did not seem like a suit one wore to work. He looked like he was the chaebol in one of the dramas Sehun worked in, and not the financial analyst he claimed to be. How much did he spend on clothes anyway? That suit was making him look a bit too good.

A corner of Baekhyun’s brain supplied that it was not the suit making him look good but the body underneath it. Baekhyun usually ignored that part of his brain.

Baekhyun huffed, and took a seat opposite Junmyeon. He had cooked a simple kimchi stew, which went beyond Baekhyun’s own kitchen skills, but he couldn’t help but snort– with the way Junmyeon had been puttering about, you’d think he had been whipping up a Michelin star meal.

“Enjoy your meal,” Junmyeon smiled again, and Baekhyun pondered the possibility of his food being poisoned. The problem was that he was so hungry that he would eat it anyway.

He took a bite. It was delicious. He took another bite. The slivers of meat in the stew were cooked perfectly. This was making him mad.

“You know when you chew like that, you look like a cute hamster.”

Baekhyun choked on his rice.

Junmyeon stood up in a flash, patting his back and offering a glass of water. Baekhyun wasn’t sure if Junmyeon being this close to his face or having his hand slide down Baekhyun’s spine was necessary to save him from asphyxiation by food, but it definitely wasn’t helping him. Baekhyun took the glass of water, a few deep breaths, and stumbled out of his chair.

“Right. Good dinner. Thank you.”

When he was finally in the safety of his bedroom, that part of the brain he liked to ignore reminded him that the redness of his face was certainly not due to the lack of oxygen.

"Baek, if I knew you could look this good I would have been nicer to you," Chanyeol gaped.

"Mr. Byun?" Jongin walked past him on his way to his desk, "You look so nice today."

Beside him, Taemin nodded approvingly.

Baekhyun smirked at them- the self assured one which either made people fall in love with him or made them want to smack him. With his new fitted suit though, he knew it was the first option everyone was favouring.

"So," Chanyeol wheeled his chair closer to him, "What's the occasion?"

“Got a hot date after work.”

“That Junmyeon dude coming too?”

Baekhyun grimaced, “Yeah him too. Sehun’s treating us to dinner tonight at some fancy place.”

Chanyeol grinned, “Good for you man. I didn’t even know your hair could look like that.”

Baekhyun didn’t either. Ever since Sehun had told them that he’d be taking them to dinner three days ago, Baekhyun had started staying up late watching videos on styling, and had stolen half a dozen of Sehun’s products to get the parted but messy hair he was sporting right now- along with a bit of makeup, which was one thing he knew how to do already.

The suit, though, he had bought the very next day of seeing Junmyeon in one.

“Nice suit Baekhyun. Hope you didn’t charge it to the company account this time.”

Baekhyun and Chanyeol jolted in surprise.

“Gosh boss, you need to stop sneaking up on us like that.”

Kyungsoo ignored Chanyeol, choosing to stare at Baekhyun instead.

“It was that one time, and that shirt was of tantamount importance to ace that meeting. We work in marketing, we need to look good.”

“Marketing our products, not marketing ourselves,” Kyungsoo’s eyes slid from him to Chanyeol, “and you. You need to come to my office right now. We need to talk about your reports.”

“I’m telling you he wants me,” Chanyeol whispered before following Kyungsoo like a kicked puppy.

Baekhyun was in too good of a mood today to think about hunting down Yixing and begging him for a spot in the operations team.

He didn’t understand how someone could look dashing in greasy slicked back hair. The only other person who Baekhyun could think of who pulled off that look was Gong Yoo. And Baekhyun didn’t want to sit here and compare Junmyeon to the Gong Yoo.

But here he was, holding Sehun's hand and glaring at Junmyeon opposite him, while Sehun between them beamed without a care in the world, both hands occupied by his boyfriends.

"So obviously both of you must be wondering why I am treating you–" Sehun started. At this both Junmyeon and Baekhyun chuckled, knowing that it was unusual for their boyfriend to do this, "–But I have an announcement to make."

Baekhyun and Junmyeon leaned forward in anticipation.

"I bagged the main role in a web series. Now I know it's not JTBC or something, but it's a big deal-"

"Of course it's a big deal!" Baekhyun gasped, "I'm so happy for you!"

"This is incredible news Sehun," Junmyeon congratulated, way more calmly than Baekhyun had. Junmyeon even did that eye smile thing that made his face look downright angelic. Baekhyun went back to glaring at him.

Sehun clutched their hands, "Thank you I really appreciate it. Which brings me to the next thing I want to say, and I want you both to hear me out on this–"

Baekhyun didn’t like where this was going. He had seen that look on Sehun’s face before. It ended with Baekhyun either losing his money or his sanity.

“Web dramas don’t have a lot of budget- so shooting will start next week for a month, and it’ll be long work hours to get done as quickly as possible. Now Suho,” Sehun smiled at him, “Lives pretty far away, and Baekhyun,” Sehun frowned, “We got the apartment precisely because it was close to both the major studios and to your work. Therefore–”

It looked like it was going to be Baekhyun's sanity this time.

“–I was wondering if Suho could come live with us for the month, because I’ll have no time to see him at all, if not at home. If Suho agrees, of course.”

“I’m down,” Junmyeon immediately quipped.

Sehun stared at Baekhyun. It was not a request, but a demand. Not that Baekhyun would be strong enough to refuse anything Sehun asked of him anyway.

Baekhyun could only soullessly laugh at his situation.

The first thing to do was establish boundaries. Which was done rather quickly in the first few days. Junmyeon took the tiny guest bedroom, which had previously been relegated as a storage room, and was cleared by Baekhyun at Sehun’s behest. The reward for doing that had been four hours of Sehun’s undivided attention- so cleaning was a small price to pay, especially since Baekhyun had purposefully left behind quite a few dust bunnies. Baekhyun hoped Junmyeon had allergies.

In return, Baekhyun had been banned from the kitchen after Junmyeon had watched his attempt of poaching an egg in real time. Not that Baekhyun minded- the only meal he had at home was dinner anyway, and if Junmyeon was willing to cook for them, who was he to question that?

Though he was careful to not choke on anything during these dinners.

Junmyeon occasionally smiled at Baekhyun, like he found Baekhyun’s animosity towards him amusing. Baekhyun for one, did not find it amusing at all how easily he was getting used to living with someone else other than Sehun.

Sehun on the other hand, was over cloud nine. He came back from his shoots happier than before, having completed a day of work where he was treated like the main character he was, to his two boyfriends who fought for his attention. All the hours of listening to Junmyeon watch financial news on the TV felt worth it somehow when Sehun would kiss him and tell him how much he loved him.

The kissing was another issue. Now that Junmyeon was living with them it was much harder to avoid watching Sehun and him go at it, especially with the kind of kisses that led to something else. But surprisingly it was not the jealousy that bothered Baekhyun, but the way the back of his neck felt hot whenever he happened to walk in on them. If Baekhyun thought Junmyeon looked good with neat parted hair, it was nothing compared to how he looked after his hair had been teased and pulled by Sehun's hands.

But if there was one thing Baekhyun had the upper hand in, it was experience. He had been dating Sehun for two years, and he knew exactly what he liked. He knew that Sehun liked a glass of water right when he got home, that he was to be left alone for the first half an hour after coming back from work- he got cranky and moody and he did not like lashing out on others because of his temper. Baekhyun also knew the best way to kiss him to make him smile, and knew how his loud laughter amused Sehun, despite him pretending to be annoyed by it. But Junmyeon was never bothered by these moments that should have left him feeling like a third wheel. He always looked on with a soft smile, and adoring eyes. Baekhyun appreciated that.

Sometimes Sehun had overnight shoots, which left Junmyeon and Baekhyun alone at home. The first few times it had happened it had been awkward, but now it was almost natural to change clothes and help Junmyeon with whatever he was cooking for dinner- either doing the dishes or setting up the table. As much as a menace Baekhyun was, he felt bad for not doing anything at all, when after all, Junmyeon was coming back from a long day at work too.

Today was one of those nights. Baekhyun toed off his shoes, pausing for a moment in surprise when he realised no one was home. That was unusual knowing that Junmyeon had earlier working hours than Baekhyun, and was home before him pretty much all the time. But Baekhyun didn’t even have his phone number to check on him. Just as he was about to consider texting Sehun about it, he heard the sound of the passcode being punched in, and in walked Junmyeon, looking tired and morose.

“Takeout?” Baekhyun immediately offered.

Junmyeon smiled gratefully.

“So Jongdae and Xiumin– they are my friends from work,” Junmyeon recounted animatedly, “–they messed up their due diligence on this company we are currently researching. Thankfully I caught it while going through the report, and we worked overtime to get it fixed.”

Baekhyun bit into his fried chicken, not understanding a word Junmyeon was saying, but nodding appropriately nevertheless. Junmyeon had never really talked about work before, not to him at least. They weren't even friends, much less close ones who chatted to each other during dinner. But Baekhyun wasn’t having a bad time so far. Junmyeon was a bit dorkier than Baekhyun had initially assumed, and he could see why Sehun liked him.

“But that’s enough about me. Tell me about yourself.”

“What?” Baekhyun laughed, “Is this an interview?”

He shrugged, “We’ve never talked.”

Baekhyun squinted at him. He did appear sincere.

“Um. I’m Byun Baekhyun- you do know my name I guess.”

Junmyeon rolled his eyes, making Baekhyun grin.

“ –I work at the marketing department of my firm. My hobbies include gaming, loving Sehun, and singing in the shower.”

“I heard your rendition of Taeyeon’s Fine yesterday. You do sing well.”

Oh. He loved receiving compliments about his singing. Baekhyun blushed.

“Thanks, so uh–” Baekhyun put down the chicken bone, “–guess I will see you later?”

“Sure,” Junmyeon smiled, “Goodnight Baekhyun.”

“Goodnight Suh- I mean Junmyeon.”

Junmyeon’s resulting smirk haunted Baekhyun for the rest of the night.

“I can’t believe Sehun is done with the web series already.”

“I can’t believe he ditched us for the closing party with his crew.”

Junmyeon snorted at Baekhyun’s sulky tone.

“It’s not like he can avoid it,” he reasoned, “But he’ll have more free time from now.”

“I guess,” Baekhyun rested his face on his palm, “You’re moving out tomorrow right?”

Junmyeon shrugged, “My month is up.”

Baekhyun hummed, looking down at his food. Junmyeon had cooked Doenjang Jjigae today. Sehun’s favourite. It was a shame he wasn’t here to taste it.

“How did you and Sehun meet?”

Junmyeon looked surprised by Baekhyun’s question. He couldn’t exactly blame him- Baekhyun had done his best to avoid the fact that Sehun and Junmyeon were dating at all.

“When we analyse companies, to see if their stock is worth buying or not,” Junmyeon started slowly, “We are very thorough, even to the point of asking employees if they are being paid well- to gauge if the company is healthy or not.”

“Wait– so Sehun was one of those employees?”

Junmyeon chuckled, “Yeah, he was the actor in a production house we were researching at the time. And the rest is history as they say.”

“Wow,” Baekhyun huffed, “That’s a cool story. Mine is boring. I met him through Chanyeol– a common friend.”

“I’m sure it was exciting too. Meeting you–” Junmyeon paused to look at him directly, “–Must have been great.”

Baekhyun gulped. He could be dense sometimes. Really dense. But even he knew Junmyeon was flirting with him.

“Why are you doing this?” Baekhyun squinted suspiciously.

“Doing what?”

Baekhyun huffed again, “Never mind. Thanks for dinner.”

He stood up, almost making it out of the room until Junmyeon gently grabbed his wrist, tugging Baekhyun towards himself.

"Has anyone ever told you that you're really oblivious?"

Baekhyun rolled his eyes, although his heart was beating faster than the one time he shoplifted for a dare in school.

"I might have heard that a few times."

The next few moments were hazy. Baekhyun vaguely remembered turning to face Junmyeon, who cupped his face almost instinctively. What he did remember clearly was leaning in, and the way Junmyeon kissed him- like he had been waiting for this moment for ages. Baekhyun had been too- he realised, judging by the desperation in which pulled Junmyeon's hair when the kiss got deeper, and how he sighed when Junmyeon placed his hands on Baekhyun's hips.

They were both panting when they broke away, and there was a minute of pure relief, until the situation came crashing down on Baekhyun.

“I’m sorry,” Baekhyun breathed out, “Gotta go.”

“Wait, Baekhyun–”

But Baekhyun wasn’t going to stay there and listen to any of it.

“You look like someone ran over you.”

“I feel like someone ran over me.”

Chanyeol tutted, “Didn’t Sehun’s shoot wrap up yesterday? I thought you’d come in today looking all happy and glowing and all that.”

“Sehun didn’t even reach home until I was asleep,” Baekhyun grumbled, “But he didn’t do anything.”

“Junmyeon then?” Chanyeol guessed.

Baekhyun moaned in agony and buried his face in his hands.

“God you’re so overdramatic,” Chanyeol was in one of his rare, serious moments, “Will you tell me what’s going on?”

“I cheated on Sehun.”

“Sure you did,” Chanyeol snickered. Baekhyun remained silent.

“Wait really?” Chanyeol’s eyes turned as big as saucers. “With whom?”

“Junmyeon.”

Chanyeol started laughing.

“This is not funny.”

“I mean, how do you even cheat in an open relationship, with another person who is also in an open relationship. Do you hear yourself?”

“But–”

“Do you still love Sehun?”

“Of course I do!”

“Do you like Junmyeon?”

Baekhyun pursed his lips.

“Well?” Chanyeol pressed on.

“Yes,” Baekhyun sighed.

Chanyeol grinned, “I knew that whole hatred thing was all an act.”

“It wasn’t!” Baekhyun protested, “I swear I hated him.”

Chanyeol’s smile turned softer, “Why don’t you talk to Sehun about it? And Junmyeon too for that matter? I’m sure they would appreciate that.”

“I guess. Since when did you become this smart?”

Chanyeol didn’t answer, opening his phone instead to show Baekhyun a selfie.

It was Chanyeol pressed cheek to cheek with–

“Kyungsoo?” Baekhyun screeched.

“The answer is, I always have been,” Chanyeol winked.

When Baekhyun finally trudged home, he half expected Junmyeon to be there, waiting for him, but instead he came face to face with a pouty, sleepy Sehun. Despite his inner turmoil, Baekhyun smiled at the sight.

“Why didn’t you reply to any of my messages?”

“I’m sorry–” Baekhyun startled, “–I hadn’t noticed.”

Immediately, Sehun’s pout melted into concern, and he brushed Baekhyun’s hair lovingly.

“Is everything okay?”

Baekhyun sighed. He had always been honest to a fault, to the point of knowing he should be censoring himself around people. He didn’t see why he couldn’t be truthful in this situation as well.

“Sehun, yesterday I–”

“Kissed Junmyeon?”

“W-what?” Baekhyun stuttered.

“He told me, because apparently you freaked out. Baekhyun, I know we have never really discussed it before but, it is okay if you are attracted to other people. Our relationship is not a traditional one and I don’t want you to worry thinking that you’re doing something wrong when you’re kissing someone else other than me.”

“It’s not even that,” Baekhyun groaned, “I’m just mad that I like him.”

“You’re so fucking dumb Baekhyun.”

This made Baekhyun laugh. This was normal.

“Love you too Sehunnie.”

Sehun whined in frustration, “Now will you please go on and talk to Suho? He’s in his bedroom.”

“He’s still here?”

“I convinced him to stay for a few more days.”

“You demanded, you mean.”

Sehun smiled, “Same thing.”

“Alright so–”

“We need to talk–” Junmyeon started.

“Hey!” Baekhyun groaned, “That was my line!”

Junmyeon smiled indulgently.

“I’m sorry,” he started, “I should have talked to you first.”

“No,” Baekhyun sat beside him on his tiny bed, “I should have acted more mature about it.”

Junmyeon lifted an eyebrow teasingly, “Mature?”

“You know what I mean,” Baekhyun grumbled.

“No,” Junmyeon laughed, “I don’t. You have been so annoying, but that was kind of hot.”

“That’s how I usually win over people. Tried and tested formula.”

“You won me then. Can I kiss you?”

“If you must.”

Junmyeon shook his head in amusement, but being a man of his word, he did kiss him. Baekhyun lost balance and slipped flat onto the bed, making the kiss steamier than initially intended– but it was fine, Baekhyun kind of liked this.

“Fucking finally. This is hot.”

Baekhyun and Junmyeon paused, turning to look at Sehun.

“I have been waiting.”

Baekhyun smirked, “Well join us then.”

From that point, Baekhyun would like to say they lived happily ever after, but the fact was that the bed was too small for them, Junmyeon discovered one of Baekhyun’s hidden dust bunnies and sneezed, at which point they agreed it would be better if they all went out to eat.

Well, maybe that was a happy ending after all.
